5th Jun 2016 (偏偏 – Amanda Lee)

The song foe today is “偏偏” by Amanda Lee. This is one of Amanda’s classic. The English translation of the title is “But but”, the phase in Chinese means that something happened contrary to what one would have expected.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “Using my bravery, I put on the makeup, carefully preparing to get into the field of love. With all my effort, I put on the night dress, wishing that I could happily keep you with me tonight. Watching your changes in movement. Paying attention to you when you moved across, the changes in slow motion. Listening to your tone of voice when you laugh, the miracle is about to begin. You are right in front of me, but you ignored the challenges from my eyes. You act normal, but never step forward to accept my attracted eyesight. Rushing to dodged to the new location, gazing at your side, your back and your front. My rushing thought started to explored, like I am in the sea, trying to search for the cost line.  Paying attention to you when you moved across, the changes in slow motion. Listening to your tone of voice when you laugh, the miracle is about to begin. You are right in front of me, but you ignored the challenges from my eyes. You act normal, but too lazy to connect with my eyesight.” Hope you will like the song.

13th Apr 2016 (銷魂 – Amanda Lee)

The song for today is “銷魂” by Amanda Lee. I personally quite like Amanda Lee. Probably not many people remember, back in the 90’s Amanda and Sammi were direct competitor, fighting for the crown for the Queen of Canton Pop. At the end, Sammi become more popular and Amanda slowly faded away. At some point she damaged her vocal cords, so her voice is much much deeper and unclear comparing to her 90’s voice. But anyhow, she is still a very good singer. This song was released around 2 years ago. The closest English translation of the title is “Ecstasy”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “Allow me to be sleep worry free tonight. As love made me tired. Buried into the ground to sleep worried free, not to think of who I should revenge. Allow me to be sleep worry free tonight, as all my tears have dried up. Never intended to planned again, just waiting for the day when the thunder arrive. The sins that was attracted when I fallen in love with you, it is like I will never be forgiven. Just let this heart slowly aged, never chase it back when it leaves. Why life carried so many hate. Hatred is blocking my future. Rather put down the knife and get rid of the old people, and never bother with the things happening again. Rather buried all the anger when they are fresh; reborn and get back on track again. From now on, pretend that I was dead since yesterday. Smile when I go to the funeral. Allow me to be sleep worry free tonight, as this life is rather tired. The type that couldn’t let go when it ended, the good ending never followed. The sins that was attracted when I fallen in love with you, it is like I will never be forgiven. Just let this heart slowly aged, never chase after it when I reincarnated. Why life carried so many hate. Hatred is blocking my future. Rather put down the knife and get rid of the old people, use the courage to calm down the broken heart. The things that got buried are only the unlucky things. Tomorrow, I will be back on track. From then, I will sing that I have been dead yesterday. I have already been to the funeral of the nightmare, rub away the footprint from the past.” Hope you will like this song.

29th Aug 2014 (活得比你好 – Amanda Lee)

The song for today is “活得比你好” by Amanda Lee. From memory this song was quite famous back at the time when it was released. The direct English translation of the title is “Live better than you”.

The lyrics of the song area bout love. The protagonist said “Since that year, when you left me, made me underestimated myself, lowered my self-esteem.  It was that year, I let myself go, destroy my body for you, destroy my soul. Fallen to the darken point, I suddenly understand, I wasted my life but I haven’t made you care about me. I must cheer up tomorrow and pretend that this relationship never happened. Then after that, I will live better than you a bit. So that when you see me again today, you would realised that leaving me behind that day is your lost. Only a few years had passed, the me in front of you is living better than you”. Hope you will like the song.

16th Jan 2014 (囍宴 – Amanda Lee)

The song that I chose for today is “囍宴” by Amanda Lee. The direct English translation of the title is “Wedding banquet”

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist feeling sad when she attends her friend’s wedding banquet. The protagonist said that all the guests that were invited as a family have already arrived, but she is going to the banquet alone. Someone asked why she is alone and she doesn’t want to answer. Her friend told her that a wedding banquet has been arranged and she must go to celebrate. She knows that the bride in the next wedding wouldn’t be her. She wanted to avoid these situations, so she sits at the furthest corner. She is scare of being alone, but the happy feeling, she doesn’t have that much. Others told her that attending more wedding would help her, but now at the end of the banquet, she is still along. Others have all found their special someone, but there is always an empty spot next to her. Other’s wedding banquets, so sweet that it turns bitter and sour; it also remind her of the dream that she put away for many years. Attending this wedding banquet make her realised what she lack. Why there is so little time and considered too much. Perhaps her spring had passed and didn’t wait for her. Other’s wedding banquet, guesses could you please behave yourself, there is no need to be so happy that tears coming out from your eyes. Hope you will like the song.

8th Sep 2013 (我為我生存 – Amanda Lee)

The song that I chose for today is “我為我生存” by Amanda Lee. I really like Amanda’s songs. It is a pity that her voice had changed so much these days. This is one of Amanda’s more famous songs. The direct English translation of the title is “I live for myself”.

The lyrics of the song are about a couple, while it didn’t say explicitly, I am guessing that the protagonist’s boyfriend passed away. She told him that he doesn’t need to worry about her, please don’t wait for her or wish that they would meet again. Getting rid of this love, the world hasn’t change a single bit. She feels that she cans finally life for herself and face all challenges that will come. She will be able to find her self-esteem back. Hope you will like the song.

14th Aug 2013 (秘密 – Amanda Lee)

The song that I chose for today is “秘密” by Amanda Lee. I really like Amanda’s songs, but these days her voice had changed so much and hardly make any new songs. The direct English translation of the title is “Secret”.

Personally I don’t quite understand the lyrics, but I think it is about one night stand. The protagonist had sex with a male, but then she realised that he is not the guy that she love. She tried to hide the emotion, so that the guy would not know about the truth. Hope you will like the song.

27th Jun 2013 (藍色傘下等 – Amanda Lee)

I have been very busy yesterday and didn’t manage to post a song. So this post is for yesterday. The song that I chose for yesterday is “藍色傘下等” by Amanda Lee. Personally I quite like Amanda, but these days her voice is broken and become very deep. The direct English translation of the title is “Waiting under the blue umbrella”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist is looking out of the window with her boyfriend and they were very happy. She remember that year when she looked into his eyes, they felt embarrassed. She remembered that he used to wait for her under the blue umbrella. She is grateful that they are still together. Hope you will like the song.

9th Mar 2013 (橫濱別戀 – Amanda Lee)

The song that I chose for today is “橫濱別戀” by Amanda Lee. This song is one of my favourite and it was from 1995. Back then Amanda was very popular. Sadly these days Amanda hardly sing, I think part of the reason is that her voice is broken now, her voice is a lot deeper than it was and it sounds a bit murky as well. Anyway, this is was from her golden era so she sounds perfect in it. The direct English translation of the song is “Goodbye my love in Yokohama”.

The lyrics of the song are about trying to move on. The song started by the protagonist going into a café that was playing some sad music. She meets this guy there and listens to him talking about his life. He likes to wait, waiting for his love one to respond to him, but love one never did reply. He remembers it was autumn in Yokohama, he kisses his girlfriend before she left. A few days later, he hears that she didn’t make it through the storm during her travel. He remembered that the yellow street light in Yokohama, they used to hug and kissed on the bridge. He is looking over this bridge every night hoping that she would come back, but no miracle occurred. Now he is living alone in already familiarised Tokyo, living a normal life. Ever since she left, he kept quiet and isolated himself from others. It is rather a sad song, but I hope you will enjoy it.

11th Dec 2012 (遲婚的女人 – Amanda Lee)

The song that I chose for today is “遲婚的女人” by Amanda Lee. This song was very popular back in 1997. The direct English translation of the title is “Late married woman”

The lyrics of the song describe the feeling of modern woman. It talks about how woman have been seen as an attachment of man, how they are of lesser important. It says that man don’t want to get marry because they can have more time to choose. The protagonist then go on and say that it is fine with her, as she can also have fun as well. 9th Aug 2012 (公主復仇記 – Amanda Lee)

The song that I chose for today is “公主復仇記” by Amanda Lee. I like Amanda’s songs and this one is one of my favourites. The direct English translation of the title is “Revenge of the princess”. This song is quite old, from memory, it was from the mid to late 90’s.

Back then I have no clue what the lyrics was about, all I like about this song was the fast tempo and the beats, it got me quite excited just by listening to this song. Now when I look back at the lyrics I finally understand what this song tried to say. This song is actually about a girl wanted to be single. She think about the time she had with her boyfriend, and she wonder why she has to tread him like a prince. She has enough now, and so she decided to break up with him to get her freedom back. Hope you will like this song.

25th Apr 2012 ((你沒有)好結果 – Amanda Lee)

Today’s song is “(你沒有)好結果” by Amanda Lee. This is not an ordinary love song. The translation of the title in English is “(You wouldn’t have) A good ending”. The reason why “you wouldn’t have” is put inside a bracket is that the publisher thinks that the name of the song is too aggressive, so they requested the song writer to do something about it. At the end they decided to put that part inside the bracket, so that it looks will minimise the negative meaning.

This was a hit song in the 90’s in Hong Kong. It is about a girl is broken heart because she had just breakup with her boyfriend. From the title, you would have already guessed that the breakup wasn’t under the girl’s wills. So throughout the song, the girl hopes that a girl that her ex-boyfriend loves would hurt him as much as he had hurt her. It also said that if she sees her ex-boyfriend end up having a good relationship, it would hurt her even more. So this song is quite different to other songs about breakup, as this one show the extreme cases of broken heart and show how love can turn to hate. Hope you will like this song.
