14th Nov 2014 (雙城記 – Paula Tsui)

The song for today is “雙城記” by Paula Tsui. This is one of Paula’s classic. The direct English translation of the title is “Tale of two cities”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist asked whether we knows that another had past silently. In the silence, she hoped that they would stay the same. She gazed at the dusky light from the star, they felt like the sparking of her tears. In her head, they were tight together. She wishes that her unlimited love could reconnect us, but time have left behind this sad face, like telling her that there are many difficulties to get to where she want to be. She wishes you would understand that whenever things go unexpected, it is hard to tell whether you are happy or sad when you try to accept it. Even when someone faces a big change, he will still happily think of his past, love never changed. In the sea of time, you might face a lot of changes and a lot of sleepless night. Let this face, which imprinted a lot of things from the past, to carry sad tears. She wishes that you could understand nothing from the past would change. You will always happily think of the past, love never changed. Hope you will like the song.

5th Sep 2014 (變色感情 – Paula Tsui)

The song for today is “變色感情” by Paula Tsui. This is one of Paula’s classic and it was a very popular song. The direct English translation of the title is “Colour changing feeling”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said “Who was the person that started the story? There were painful times. When we started to lost it, we would be clearer on the purpose of our life. Being silence become something that we hide in our heart, separating became painful. The ring in my hand, the rain on the window side, the beauty from the past is floating around. The promise that we hold, I believe that God would know and it will never be too late. I still believe that one day you would say it is ok. Our fate hasn’t faded. We still relied on each other even our relationship ended. Hate or jealous, it was all because we got love too easily. Who would be able to keep the colour changing love? It is hard to wait for the feeling to return. There were too many pains that you didn’t know about, and I didn’t want to tell you about.” Hope you will like the song.

20th Jan 2014 (城市足印 – Paula Tsui)

The song that I chose for today is “城市足印” by Paula Tsui. This was a theme song of a TV drama back in 1986. The direct English translation of the title is “city’s footprint”.

The lyrics of the song are about the distance between people in a city. It said, pay attention on the people on the street, they walk past each other quickly. They all look serious. Their footprint overlap, and they step over other’s footprint over a thousand times, but it seems that no one cares. Pay attention to the people around us, their cold eyes; wonder why people are always in a rush, would they ever know that whether you and I are close or far apart today. Everyone in the city now acts like people can’t get close to them. Time pushes them forward in life, we see each other every day, but we never looked at each other. Pay attention to this person in the middle of the street, he has a pair of honest and smiley eyes. He walked closer to you and smile at you; you felt the love approaches you. Sun light is as warm as this person; he has a friendly heart full of joy. In our life, we meet someone then immediately, we departed; wonder whether their heart could be approaching each other again. Hope you will like the song.

3rd Aug 2012 (順流逆流 – Paula Tsui)

The song that I chose for today is “順流逆流” by Paula Tsui. This is a very old Chinese song. The direct English translation of the title is “go with the flow and against the flow”, what it means it there are times those things goes all good and there are times when things go bad.

The lyrics is about that we don’t know whether there would be an end to our future, but we can be sure that what have happened had passed. Every bit of our tears was accompanied with our dreams, and they leave silently. Then it talks about that we have been old enough to have a taste of success and failure. No matter how hard it is today, we wouldn’t let go. We wouldn’t care about what other said, we would only follow our heart. We shouldn’t believe that we could gain without sacrifices and we should believe that every bit of our sweat (i.e. hard work) will be exchanged to a bit of success.

I feel very unhappy today as so many things have gone wrong. I tried my hardest to prevent them from happening, but still so many unexpected things had occurred, all in the bad ways. I am not sure how much longer I could last. When I look through my iTunes play list tonight to figure out what song I should talk about, I found this song. To some degree, listening to this song make me feel better. At least it reminded me about the good time that I used to have a few years ago and gave me hope that things will become better if I keep trying. Hope you will enjoy this song too.

19th Jul 2012 (風的季節 – Paula Tsui/Anita Mui)

The song that I chose for today is “風的季節” by Paula Tsui. This song is quite famous back in the days when Paula was popular. I remember I used to laugh so badly when this song was played on TV because I didn’t have a clue what she was trying to say in the music video and all I see her did in the music video was just walking around. The direct English translation of the song is “The season of the wind”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It talks about how the protagonist didn’t aware the summer has already past until she feels the wind blowing. It passed away just like time. She thinks about the good time that she had and felt sad. She just want the wind to blow her tears and sadness away just like how it blow away summer.

I guess the younger generation have never heard this song, as it came from the early 80’s. What make this song very famous (especially spreading it to younger generation) was that Anita Mui sung this song in a competition, which later she won and became a big star throughout 80’s and 90’s. I have also linked Anita version below, hope you will like this song.

10th Jul 2012 (婚紗背後 – Paula Tsui)

Today’s song is “婚紗背後” by Paula Tsui. Paula was a very popular singer back in 80’s and early 90’s. From memory, this song was a TV drama’s theme song. The direct English translation of the title is “Behind the wedding dress”.

This song is about the protagonist went to her ex-boyfriend’s wedding, knowing that she still have feeling for him. The song is rather sad, as the lyrics goes through her feeling. She saw that everyone was smiling in the wedding, but she feel very sad. She heard their old tunes, but the songs sounds different now. She hasn’t said anything to the groom yet because she is worries that she will cry when she speak to him. Now all she wish for is that their memory could fade away in the same way as the bride and groom exit the room.

I personally really like this song. It is very dramatic and that Paula sung it in a way make you feel the sorrow of the protagonist. I hope you will enjoy the song.
