30th May 2015 (感情的段落 – Samantha Lam)

The song for today is “感情的段落” by Samantha Lam. The direct English translation of the title is “The relationship paragraph”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “If you decided to leave then don’t try to go back, I know very clearly in my heart that there is no hope in trying to hold you back. There is no room for dreams, no need to hope to be forgiven. Happiness seems to be lost, it is roving with the god of love. Our hearts are hard to be connected again, like they are separated by a wall. If decided to leave then don’t force yourself to do otherwise. Love song, from now on I will stop singing it, just so that I can forget everything else. A heart couldn’t see two sides, who would have thought that it is hurt and doesn’t want to sing again. Happy story, I wanted to see more today. A chapter after a chapter. Suddenly I think why I don’t go to see a fortune teller, and ask whether I could sing the love song again.” Hope you will like the song.

13th Jan 2015 (勁之夜 – Samantha Lam/Eat you up – Angie Gold)

As mentioned yesterday, the song for today is “勁之夜” by Samantha Lam, which is the other Cantonese cover version of “Eat you up” by Angie Gold. Both “勁之夜” and “跳舞街” were from 1986, I am not sure which one got released first. But having multiple cover versions of the same song was rather common back in the 80’s, like Kohji Makaino (近藤真彦) “夕焼けの歌” that I had previously talked about, there were 3 Cantonese cover versions and Mayumi Itsuwa (五輪真弓) “恋人よ” got 5 different Chinese cover versions. Back to “勁之夜”, the English translation of the title is “Superb Night”.

The lyrics of the song are about being energetic and dancing. It said, the sounds of drums are hot; our hearts are burning and sweating. Our legs just wanted to dance and we stop caring what time it is. Tonight we got to be free, movement should be quick just like wave. Come quick, stop sitting down at the corner and stare at me. It’s such a physical night, you better not waste it. Do you wanna dance tonight? It’s such a physical night, don’t waste it. Do you wanna dance tonight? It’s such a physical night, keep waiting and you will waste it. Do you wanna dance tonight? It’s such a physical night, don’t waste it. Do you wanna dance tonight? The sounds of drums are fast and hot, the fluorescent shirt is shaking with me. Our hands move so fast that they couldn’t be tide down. If our heart id hot, there is no need to restrain ourselves. Come quick, stop sitting down at the corner and stop being so nervous that causes your hands and legs to sweat. No need to sit, no need to sit, no need to sit, sitting quietly in my fridge. Come to me, come to me, come to me, come to me. It’s gonna dance all night, don’t waste it. Do you wanna dance tonight? Hope you will like the song.

10th Jan 2015 (偶遇 – Samantha Lam)

The song for today is “偶遇” by Samantha Lam. While this is not the first song that come up to my mind when I think of Samantha, this song is considered as Samantha most famous song. It was a theme song for a movie. The English translation of the title is “Encountered”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, the protagonist is enjoying her memories when she thinks of him. She said, wind was blow with a smile. They encountered in the cloud, and she can’t forget him from that day. Even now, she still enjoys this encountered memory. Her heart is casted by the shadow of the smile. Every day she thought about that attractive moment. Even if she tries to turn back she couldn’t chase it back. Looking at him comes and goes, it felt like the colour cloud formed and dismissed. When will she be allowed and when will she be able to encounter him again. If in the future she got the chance to see him again, then everything from today all be in the past. It will be like a song, like a poem, worrying that they will not meet again. Hope you will like the song.

22nd Dec 2014 (初戀 – Samantha Lam/初戀 – Murashita Kōzō (村下孝蔵))

The song for today is “初戀” by Samantha Lam. As I have talked about Samantha yesterday, I feel that I should talk about this song today as this is the first song that I would think of if you talk about Samantha. This song was released in 1984, it was so popular because it was used in a lemon tea ad in the 80’s. The ad itself had become a classic and many people to date still remember it (or at least had seen some footage of it). The star in the ad was Ekin Cheng. Note that this song is a different song to Danny Chan’s “初戀”, despite that they share the same name. The one by Samantha is the Cantonese cover version of a Japanese song by Murashita Kōzō (村下孝蔵) which uses the same name “初戀”. The direct English translation of the title is “First love”.

The lyrics of the song are about the excitement of falling in love for the first time. The protagonist said that she got no experience in love, and she only discovered it today. She looked at him from a distance, and she felt so excited by this happiness. She couldn’t sleep because his shadow appeared in her heart. She asked herself why seeing him only once and this beautiful image felt like her first love. Gazing at him, gazing at him felt like she has been electrocuted. That moment when they connected already got her crazy. Every minute she looks forward to see him again. She waited without complain. Every minute she wishes to see him again, even bumping into him on the road could get her excited for a few days. Her excitement has surfaced, such a cute first love. I have also linked to the lemon tea ad and the original Japanese version, hope you will nejoy the song.

21st Dec 2014 (月影 – Samantha Lam (林志美)/Moonlight Shadow – Mike Oldfield)

The song for today is “月影” by Samantha Lam (林志美). Samantha was very famous in the 80’s. The song for today was released in 1984, it was the Cantonese cover version of “Moonlight shadow” by Mike Oldfield. The direct English translation of the title is the same as the English version of the song “Moonlight shadow”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that she once hold his hand to walk into a moony night, stepping on those half woken Moonlight shadow. They accompanied them over a thousand moony night, it is those half awaken moonlight shadow. They hug in the middle of the moonlight shadow, she couldn’t feel the wind even if it was so cold. She felt that as if she was the little green grass that was touched by the moonlight. All she thinks of is tonight, and hope that tomorrow will never come. Sadly he had already left her, all there is left are those cold and greyish moonlight shadow to accompanying her to go through these heartbroken moony night. All there is left are these cold and grey moonlight shadow. In the middle of the moonlight shadow, she felt annoyed, all she hope for is that tomorrow morning could arrive earlier. But sadly the moonlight shadow make her to walk at night, hoping to meet him on the way. Spring arrived, autumn arrived, still waiting, but sadly he never arrived. Winter arrived, wind blow, no one is there at night, only the wind was there to listen to her. She couldn’t feel how cold the wind was as they were hugging in the moonlight shadow. She couldn’t feel how cold the wind was, as she is like a little green grass that was touched by the moonlight. She only think of tonight and never hope for tomorrow morning. Hope you will like the song.  I have also linked to the original English version for comparison, enjoy :D
