13th Jan 2016 (千秋 – Sita Chan)

The song for today is “千秋” by Sita Chan. The title of this song played with words. It pronounced the same as “鞦韆”, meaning swing (as in those in a park). But the direct meaning with the word is “Thousand autumn”, though in Chinese this phase also means “a long time”.

The lyrics of the song are about a love story that deals with swing, seasons and time. The protagonist said: “At a park absorbing the sunlight that was handed out by the sky. The cool wind breath out the smell of autumn. Every year I got attracted to every fallen leaves. As usual I stay to think of that goodbye. Back then the simple pair just want to see each other. No need to wear more, just hug each other to be warmer. Escape the busyness and just to seat together to watch the sunset. But who could have escape the change of season? Day by day and finally meet autumn again. Bit by bit thought of it again, and slowly sit onto the swing. That year we meet there, that year our face touches each other. Only thinking could spend me half a day. Meet the high and low scenery and it bought me back to that day. One by one the old shop got demolished. These years still haven’t learnt to accept them calmly. A bit of cold, triggered yearn. Back then I make a scarf for you. With a light cold, I make some congee for you. The world outside the love wall is huge, but I still wish that we could be forever together even when we grew up. Day by day and finally meet autumn again. Bit by bit thought of it again, and slowly sit onto the swing. Perhaps we have gone our separate ways, but memories remained unchanged. A long time had passed, but it is still like yesterday. These up and down scenery once again started to be burry again. The sky started to turn dark, so perhaps it is time for people to go home. The beautiful scene slowed down, no matter what you do you can’t change it. Without you behind the swing, it once again stopped at autumn.” Hope you will like the song.

19th Oct 2015 (記念悲 – Sita Chan)

The song for today is “記念悲” by Sita Chan. It bring some sadness to me when I listen to Sita’s songs, as it reminded me that a person with a beautiful voice like this had passed away. The title of the song is playing with words, it pronounced as “紀念碑” meaning “monument”. But as you noticed, it uses different words, the first word means “remember”, second word means “think” and the last word means “sadness”, so the title could be translated as “Remember sadness”. This song was a theme song for a movie.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “Let the love from yesterday to end now. At the end, love cut through the heart. The lies got exposed, crying when everyone was gazing at me angrily. Too much hope in love, and it will make losing worse. Heard that the more you love, the more likely it will end in pain. This idea never sinks in my head, easy to pick up but hard to let go. Still love you, still remembered. We were arguing, but why we love each other more. I still love to think of you, so sad. Even that time when we were in a silence war, I still think of it with a smile. So sad that I deliberately twisted my memories. Even I knew that you were lying to me, but I still treasure your flower. I used everything of mine, but I still couldn’t win a bit of love from you. Do you care how much I am hurt? Next year today will you still be good? Still love you, still remembered. You were beautiful even when you were angry, worry that I will still think of you at night. I still love to think of you, so sad. Couldn’t communicate with you even we meet on the street, I will accept it even when I cry.” Hope you will like the song.

31st Jan 2015 (失樂冰 – Sita Chan)

The song for today is “失樂冰” by Sita Chan. This was a song from 2012. It wasn’t a popular song, but it is a song that I like a lot. The title of the song sounds similar to “思樂冰” which is the Chinese name for  7-Eleven’s Slurpee. If you break up Slurpee’s Chinese name, “思” mean think, “樂” mean happiness and “冰” is ice. The title, “失樂” can be interoperated as “lost happiness”, it also pronounced the same as “失落” meaning “down” (as in feeling down). So the title can be translated as “Lost happiness ice”. The lyrics also make some reference to Slurpee.

The lyrics of the song are about losing faith in love. The protagonist said: “Uses soft drink as shower gel, and float on the bubbles. Use icy pole sticks to create a wooden raft to float to an island. Letting myself to lost myself is like ice cream at high temperature. At the deepest place in our heart, the temperature is the same as the freezer. Haven’t been loved, no longer need love. I am happier to live alone. In the low temperature room, I cheer for myself. I am used to autistic, it is not a problem; I only love to swim into the fridge. There is also rice that has been in the fridge for 7 days, so if I get hungry I can still warm my stomach. Getting used to autistic can avoid a lot of followed up problems; I buried love in the fridge. Busy city, but all I need is a tiny place that belongs to me. Talking to yogurt and fruits about TV drama, I forgot a lot of pain. Frozen food will expired in 10 days, and it is counting down each day. To stop myself getting old, letting myself naturally disappeared isn’t that bad. I feel happy, no need for anyone to admire me. Learning to love myself already provided enough love. At negative four degree Celsius I observed snowflake grow. Being along, who would question that it is harmful? I am used to autistic, it is not a problem; I only love to swim into the fridge. There is also rice that has been in the fridge for 7 days, so if I get hungry I can still warm my stomach. Getting used to autistic can avoid a lot of followed up problems; I buried love in the fridge. Avoiding contact, all I need is my “square fruit” (“四方果”, which is a ready-to-eat jelly make by Nestle for the Hong Kong market) to pacify me. Even when autistic it is not a problem, I only love to swim into the fridge. There is still my favourite, the fresh yogurt, letting my soul and feeling buried underground forever. For the rest of my life, I will stay in this icy place, when I got tired I will stay in the fridge. Sub zero, I shrink myself to the size of a brewer’s rice,  love will be very small, very small. Please let me die from the cold and waste it with my youth. Hiding, even when I lack a partner I don’t need to be pacified.” Hope you will like the song.

28th Sep 2014 (蜚蜚 – Sita Chan/시간을 거슬러 – Lyn)

The song for today is “蜚蜚” by Sita Chan. I was listening to a radio drama today and the theme song for that was sung by Sita. She got so much potential, but sadly she passed away last year in a car accident. This song was one of the songs in her last album. The name of the song is the last two word of the Chinese phrase “流言蜚蜚” which means “A lot of gossip”. This song is the Chinese cover version of a Korean song “시간을 거슬러” sings by Lyn (린) and it is a

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist feeling towards her relationship with her boyfriend. It said that when she loves him, there are so many gossips. She heard that he treat relationship like a circus; he will forget after he got his happiness, he will dump it after he had admires it. So loving him she will hate herself as well. It felts like she is in love on the edge of a cliff, how exciting could that be? She won her love all because she is capable of lying to herself. The love below the falling wall, how much sadness could it bare? She hates herself as she knows that she should have avoided it. She hates to hear talk about her rights or wrongs. At the end she decided to blindly fall in love with him. Perhaps she deserved to die as she couldn’t live without him, but gossips helped him to turn the wrongs into right. If the love is wrong, she still doesn’t want to let go. It is cruel, so it is normal to cry. Love in a bitter and tasteless way, perhaps one day there would be a good ending to this relationship. Burying her own self-esteem in exchange for love. A relationship with a lot of gossips, there are too many challenges ahead, so they will be separated. Hope you will like the song.

3rd Oct 2013 (讓風箏飛 – Sita Chan)

The song that I chose for today is “讓風箏飛” by Sita Chan. This song came out last year. Personally I quite like this song and I think that Sita was one of the new singers that could be a big star, but sadly she passed away earlier this year. The direct English translation of the title is “Let the kite fly”.

The lyrics of the song are about growing up. It begins by telling us that it was summer and the kid was flying his kite, even his sweat taste sweet. The notebook that we forget, where are you now, the one that used to step on the grass in our childhood, did you got blowed away by the summer wind? Childhood is like a kite with a broken wire, it will just fly away very quickly. The protagonist wonders when she will be able to say goodbye peacefully like an adult, even at time when she is very sad. It wouldn’t be sunny every day, there will always be a day that you have to learn about disappointment and sadness. When you realised that yesterday got away like the wind and your beautiful dreams turn to nothing, you need to let go and try to control yourself. The weather wouldn’t always be sunny, you need to put down your kite sometime and let it fill the crack in the sky. It is like the long gone childhood, which no one could tough. Time is like a river, when we woke up ten years has already pasted, but the flower we had picked up will remain in our heart. Childhood is like the kite with a broken wire, it flew away without notice, but it will always remain warm in our hand. When will we learn to be calm like an adult, even at time when we are angry. We like to own things when we were a kid, we had our parents to give us everything and that still wasn’t enough, we didn’t learn to let go. The weather wouldn’t always be sunny, one day we will learn about disappointment and sadness. When we realised that promise is just like the wind and dreams turn to nothing, we need to let go and control ourselves. The weather wouldn’t be sunny every day, we need to put down out kite and let it fly to the crack in the sky. But the childhood that we had, we will be able to see it in our dream. Hope you will like the song.

24th Apr 2013 (後備 – Sita Chan)

The song that I pick for today is “後備” by Sita Chan. The music video of this song was just posted online today and this is Sita’s last music video. The direct English translation of the title is “Backup”.

The lyrics of this song are about love. The protagonist had fallen in love with a guy who has a girlfriend. Every time she meets him, she feels guilty. She tried to avoid him, but yet she can’t control herself. She said that he treats her like rubbish, but for some reason, she just listens to his order. She wishes that she could be the one and only one. She is hurt and disappointed. He had once promised her that if he and his girlfriend was finish, she will be his only one. That’s why she was happy to be a backup. But now, he announced in a church that his girlfriend will be the person that he spent the rest of his life with. She look into a mirror, feels that she is nothing and she hate herself so much. Hope you will like the song.

17th Apr 2013 (忘川/beLIEve – Sita Chan)

The song that I chose for today is “忘川” by Sita Chan. Sita only become a singer in 2011. She was one of the few emerging singers that caught my ears. Unfortunately, she passed away in a car accident early today. So to memorise her, I have chosen my favourite song that sung by her. The direct English translation of the title is “Lethe”. Lethe is one of the river of Hades in the Greek mythology, but a similar river also exist in the Chinese mythology (that why I have chosen this name for the translation). In the Chinese mythology, this river in the dead world serves the same purpose as Lethe. It is a river that must travel to the other side of the river in order to reincarnate. On the bridge that crosses the river stand an old lady. When someone crosses the bridge, the old lady will hand the person a bowl of soup and after drinking this soup, the person will forget about their present life and ready to move onto their next life.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It is about the protagonist thinking about her ex-boyfriend, but she knows that he have already got a new girlfriend. He wishes her could be happy, and he believe that if she smile everyday then a new relationship will arrive at her doorstep. But she just can’t stoping about him. Now that he has got his love one, she feels that she is nobody. She felt that as if all her memories from the past have been washed away by a river. She sometime thinks that she is a bird and wanted to fly to him, but she feel this bird would fall into a river. At the end, she thanks her ex-boyfriend, she will smile every day and wish that a new relationship would arrive. She travelled around, many fun things had happened and bumped into a few interesting people. All her old memories had washed away and she will never be able to find it again. These memories are like a distant fog and she could feel that she will found her new relationship soon. Hope you will enjoy the song. There is also an English version, so I have also attached the link below. Rest in peace Sita.
