The song for today is “四不像” by Vincy Chan. This is Vincy’s latest song. The title “四不像” literately means “Doesn’t looks like any of the four”, it is either used to describe an ancient mascot/animal that have different parts resemblant different animal, or used as a word to describe something that doesn’t resemblant anything.

The lyrics of the song are about love. On the description of the official YouTube video, it explained that the protagonist tried to get the person that she loves to love her back, even though she knows it will not happen. And so to try to do that, she gave up her personality, her feeling, making herself become a 四不像. She said: “Thanks you for saying that I am a kind person and looks like I like to listen to other people. When I am the best accompanying thing, it really doesn’t matter what I look like. Able to be together, there wouldn’t be without a reason. The best of these pair is that they look like a pair of kind people that just meet. But just to match with you. Who no one asked whether I am willing to do so or not? I am myself, but for you I become nothing alike. Then I have to forget myself to keep you on my side. Being admired, felt like I got hurt. The song I pick for today is “陪你哭的不是我” by Vincy Chan. From memory, this was one a song from Vincy’s first album, which was made around 8 years ago. The direct English translation of the title is “I am not accompanying you when you cry”.

The lyrics of the song are about breakup. The protagonist said to her boyfriend that please pity her and let her breakup. But he likes to think about their happy time and feel bad not being able to share her sadness. He can’t let go of his best friend (the protagonist). He cries while he speaks; holding her hand tight and not willing to leave. She is not the one that accompanying him when he cries as he hasn’t makes her feel bitter enough. They were just like normal couple, always stay sweet. At the end, they are very peaceful, they should have celebrated. They know that they have been happy, but every time when they breakup, it hurt, but it will recover with time. He wish that she will cry, but it is difficult. She wanted him to understand that growing up will change things, and that might be a disaster. For his good, evening being someone that is getting hurt, she need to pretend that she isn’t hurt much. Not willing to let go is just because he is not used to it. Letting her go is something that he much do when he grow up, it have nothing to do with his gut. She is not the one that accompanying him when he cries as he hasn’t makes her feel bitter enough. They were just like normal couple, always stay sweet. At the end, they are very peaceful, they should have celebrated. Perhaps she hasn’t grown up enough, perhaps this is a result of loving more than one person. She is not the one that accompanying him when he cry, maybe because they have been through a lot of happy time, or perhaps that she had expected this bitterness from the beginning. She now understands these natural changes. So why not just let these tears washed away, but why do they still not letting you see clearly. The song that I chose for today is “你我她” by Vincy Chan. From memory this is one of her earlier song, one from her first album. The direct English translation of the title is “You me her”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that she went into a metro, and saw three obsessed person. She believes that there are romances, so she wanted to date a boy and have dinner with him. She is now on a street and saw three disappointed person. She wanted to go onto shops to get rid of the cold feeling. She feel that in this city there are no rooms for fairy tale. Beauty is in our heart, but who will understand our inner beauty. We all live in the same city, but we are all worry. Have you not fallen in love with someone? Trusted love? But at the end, the streets are full of sadness. Happiness is in our heart, but who will treasure it. How many of us had failed? Are there so many to fill up the city? And now we all go home and who is left crying? We had once cried so badly that our tears could fill up the sea, but these tears will evaporate under the sun. Everywhere in the city is busy, and she is also working hard to try to forget. She wishes that he could let it go as well.

To be honest, I found the lyrics hard to translate as it doesn’t quite form a complete story. But I think what it trying to say is that there is this girl, who just broke up with her boyfriend. She is walking around the city and saw many couples are breaking up. She wondered what happened to them, why they end up like her. Then she thought what would they do now, cry on the street? She believe that all of them would just end up going home straight away, none will cry on the street like she did. Hope you like the song.
