25th Apr 2016 (閃著淚光 – Wild Child)

The song for today is “閃著淚光” by Wild Child (野仔). This song was a theme song for a radio drama. The direct English translation of the title is “Shining tears”.

The lyrics of the song are about friendship. It said: “Open your eyes, life started when tears start to drop. When grow up, why we wanted to cry, couldn’t figure out why. In the future, if you wanted to cry, need to shake in the reading room. In front of you are your good friends, so please hold it up to avoid the truth being too clear. Hold your hands, let me feel all that you have. There is no reserved, let’s face the end of the world and sadness. Eyes have been shining for so long, like a stage drama that is about to start. I saved what you tried to hide, so let the tears flow. At graduation, holds hand and cry until we lost our voice. After we become adult, we should be embarrassed, shouldn’t release our emotions. Just received everything from work, just open your smile mouth. Could never grow up, only crying will looks ugly, like calling for help. Eyes have been shining for so long, grew a stage drama that is about to start. I saved what you tried to hide, so let the tears flow. Day after day, tear gland have already oxidised. So please, without reserved, let snow fall onto this planet.  I saved what you tried to hide, who doesn’t have tears.” Hope you will like the song.

10th Apr 2016 (你知道我在台北等你嗎 – Wild Child (野仔))

The song for today is “你知道我在台北等你嗎” by Wild Child (野仔). The direct English translation of the title is “Do you know I am waiting for you at Taipei?”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It said: “Without conscious, I am back to Taipei. Need to remember all the old things again. You said love me and don’t leave, but at the end I can only remember that. Day by day, the sweetness of love, you are so hard to forget. At the end I am still lonely, I resigned and gave up. So many sigh, know that you two were in love. I cry during rainy day. You once said that no matter how bitter it is you are still willing to marry me in the future. But all are now long forgotten. Love you very much, you are the baby that I love. The world got bigger and I want us to be together. Growing up, the most important one become best friend. In the memories, everything past, but you are still here. My role, should I just leave quietly? But I decided to wait for you in the rain. You said, I can’t talk about your secrets now. Even back in the past, I should not kiss you good bye. Love you very much, you are the baby that I love. The world got bigger and I want us to be together. Growing up, the most important one become best friend. If love, you know that I am waiting for you? God please help me, you are the best baby. Couldn’t say it out loud, could you please start again with me? Who with you, at the end become more than best friend? In Taipei, seventeen years old, the rainy season that year, we left behind some smell.” Hope you will like this song.

1st Jun 2013 (顧家 – I Love U Boyz)

The song that I chose for today is “顧家” by I Love U Boyz. I Love U Boyz make up of two radio host (Donald Tong and Jim Yan), they usually sing less serious and funny songs. Their name somewhat plays on the music group Boyz, which had two members. I remember when I first listen to them, they used to say their name as ‘I Love U’ Boyz (so make it sounds like a supporting slogan for Boyz). Although Boyz have long disappeared, but I Love U Boyz is still around. These days they referred to themselves by the shorten form “ILUB” or in Chinese “艾粒” (which pronounced as ‘I Love’). The direct English translation of the song title is “take care of the family”.

The lyrics of the song is about family relationship, it describe more or less a typical family in Hong Kong in the 70’s. It start off with a monologue saying “Son, how are you. In the last few decades I have been working on a ship away from home. I really wanted to be with you all the time, but…”. Then it say that the son open up an photo album and he remember his childhood time. He remembered about the drama that he used to watch. When his mum return home from work, they will just mixed some preserved soy bean cake with an egg as dinner (that’s what poorer people tends to eat back in those days). He said he was never worried about the difficult that he will face, and he work so hard. One day the economic started to fall, but he still remember how everyone used to love Hong Kong so much. Monologue again “I have bought you a yo-yo from America. Transformers, the cartoon that you used to love so much when you were a kid, is on air in the US. Ar, have the soccer match in Captain Tsubasa finished yet?” (Note ‘Captain Tsubasa’ was a very popular Japanese cartoon in Hong Kong.). Now the protagonist’s sister went overseas for further study. He remembers he went to the airport to say goodbye to his friends. Even when his wages have been reduced, but he was still happy. Now, no one can replace you as the person that I have dinner with. Monologue again “Son, I wanted to tell you that the moon cake tin under my bed contained a watch that I wanted to pass it on to you. Although the Rolex is fake, but I hope that you will put this watch on you wrist and remember to treasure time and treasure the people around you. Ar, how long have it been since we saw each other?”

I found the lyrics very touching. It was very typical for family back then to be separated. Very often, the male will work on ship (as Hong Kong is a main port) and they will be separated from their family for a long time in exchange for more cash to support their family. Hope you will like the song.

12th Apr 2013 (Old school love – 朱豔強)

The song that I chose for today is “Old school love” by朱豔強. 朱豔強 is one of the fictional character made up by Jim Yan (the vocal of Wild child), recently he is acting as this fictional character and performing in a talk show. To promote his talk show, he produced this song. This song is so similar to the song that I talked about yesterday (11th Apr 2013 (心裡日記 – Sam Hui)), I think it was done purposely to bring back that ‘old school’ feel. The lyrics are so similar as well, but it is a bit crazier.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The lyrics start off telling us the protagonist like to hang out with his love one after school. (Note that although it never mentioned in the song, but his love one should be a man, as 朱豔強 is set as a gay man (though Jim, the real person, is not homosexual)). In the weekend, the protagonist and his boyfriend play with kite and walk on the beach; they cry when they get home (as they can’t see each other) and got so excited the next day when they meet at school. He wrote all these happy memories into his diary and every pages of his diary is about his boyfriend. Although the things in his diary are so outdated and old fashion, but when his kids or grandsons read it, it would became fashion again. He remembered during their trip, he kissed on his boyfriend and it was so pure. Every night, they kiss through the phone; he called to a radio show and picked songs for his boyfriend. Although they love have long passed, but these memories will always be in his diary.

Personally I love this song. The song brings a sense of pureness and puppy love feel. But what I like the most is the old fashion melody, it is something that is quite unique to that era and seems to disappeared in the modern days. Hope you will enjoy the song.

24th Nov 2012 (我愛U – Wild Child)

The song that I chose for today is “我愛U” by Wild Child. Wild Child is a band in Hong Kong, though they are not too famous. This song feature Gin Lee and Wan Hoi. I guess most of you know Gin Lee, if not click one of the link in the related posts and you will found my previous post on Gin Lee. Wan Hoi though, I guess most people don’t know who he is. Wan Hoi is a writer, but also an enthusiast of conspiracy, alien and religion, he is actually quite famous in these sectors. Anyways, the English translation of the title is “I love U”. In here the “U” doesn’t mean “you”, but “U” as in UFO.

The lyrics are about UFO. It basically just discusses the UFO culture. It says there is always a bunch of people join together and search for UFO in the sky. They might spot a few bright spots in the sky and question whether they are UFO or not, but they will never found out the answer. Hope you will like the song.
