The song for today is “生日快樂” by Grace Ip. This song is also sing by Eric Kwok, the song writer and Grace’s husband. I think Grace is the original singer, but I guess most people are more familiar with Eric’s version. Both versions are quite different in feeling, while Grace’s version sounds more sad, Eric’s version sounds more happy (but note that the lyrics are different).  The direct English translation of the title is “Happy birthday”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that at dawn, the glass broke and the candle is blow offed like the air has all burned out. The perfume that she put on, is now all turned into steam. Even if it was very strong, she didn’t remember that he smelled it. Happy birthday, she let that exciting her in the mirror to think about the protagonist of today. She wishes that he is with his love. She also wishes that she could memorise this moment. Happy birthday, she just wanted her empty body to be filled by happiness again. She wishes that this signal could be fallen into his pocket and helps her to kiss him on his shoulder. The song that I chose for today is “折磨” by Grace Yip. This is a very old song as Grace Yip have been retired many years ago (she married to Eric Kwok, one of the two members of Swing, also a well know song writer). The direct English translation of the title is “Torment”.

The lyrics of the song are about sleeping. The protagonist said that many stars twinkle, and she have counted sheep, but why that doesn’t make her feel better. She had analysed her situation and already thought it through. It seems that they just want her to go through this torment. Turn off the light, looking forward to its sign and hopping that a quiet night will arrive. She only think about pointless things and hope that they will not happened again. The people knows about this doesn’t make fun of the nice people, and she is not scare about the mean people. But still she is not as good as him, haven’t been able to make herself available. She had watched too many entertainment news and still haven’t been able to fall to sleep. From the space perspective, she laughs and thinks that there is always something that is hard to face. So she must overcome it. She lament, as many stars have twinkled and counted many sheep, but why she doesn’t feel any better. Many sheep have pasted and now she is alone. She lament, as she had analysed and thought it through, all they want is to have her go through the torment. Oh, so is she the ignorance sheep? Hope you will like the song.
