The song for today is “原地轉” by Juno Mak. The direct English translation of the title is “Rotating at the same spot”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist feeling that he is losing interest in his partner, yet feel that it would be a waste to give up on their relationship so not sure what to do. He said: “Tonight I saw your tired face. I couldn’t find a way to touch your heart. The day before and yesterday, my identity haven’t changed, perhaps tomorrow or the day after will start to get tired of it. Every day rotating at the same spot, the sweetness is too short. Really wanted to dump, but it is hard to give up. Felt that I couldn’t just let this luggage to go. Perhaps you and I are trying to evade, love can make us discouraged. Breaking up could lead to sigh. The feeling that is fading. Without heart, couldn’t find excitement in hug, too sad. 15th Sep 2015 (瑕疵 – Juno Mak and Karen Mok)

Ever since I started my new job I haven’t had much time to take care of this blog (due to the long distance travel everyday and many paperwork/applications that I got to sort out due to the nature of my job). Don’t worry, no bad news are coming. I have finally sorted out most of the paper work/application and sort of got used to the working hours so I think I can get back onto this blog a bit more frequent. While I still can’t go back to a post per day, but for now I will aim to make a post once every two days :D

The song for today is “瑕疵” by Juno Mak and Karen Mok. This song actually released a while ago, even before “羅生門”. This can be considered as one of the spinoff of the trilogy. The direct English translation of the title is “Defect”. I haven’t translated this song before because the lyrics are so long :p I guess I finally got the energy to translate it.

If you still remember Juno’s trilogy’s story (if not, click here to get to the trilogy), this song is about the relationship of the protagonist and his new girlfriend. It said that she knows that her boyfriend is hiding something from her and she is trying to tell herself not to dig deeper as it could end their relationship. I will represent Juno’s line by “J:”, Karen’s by “K:” and when they sing together “T:”. J: So close to give up, why still haven’t let go. So close of dumping me, why decided to hold back? You didn’t own me anything right? Why every time I did something bad you still managed to find an excuse and let it go? You had questioned and regrated right? So close to lose you, why I still haven’t managed to changed? I got so many defects and I never cover them up. Really you got a lot of people that wanted to date you, so I am pleased that you stay. Between lovers, are there rooms for secrets? Should expose it, but worry that it will get worse. Between lovers, are there rooms for errors? But I didn’t just do a bit wrong, it is a few time more serious. K: Never though that no flowers and no sweet words could still call love. T: Keep holding back, and no time wasted. 22nd Jul 2015 (羅生門 – Juno Mak and Kay Tse)

I had been busy yesterday so I didn’t manage to write a post yesterday. For today the song I chose is “羅生門” by Juno Mak and Kay Tse. This is Juno’s newest song and it is the last episode of the trilogy, it continue from the story set up by “耿耿於懷” (a song that is more than 10 years old) and “念念不忘” (which was released earlier this year). Differ to the two previous parts, which were looking at the relationship from the perspective of male, “羅生門” look at the current state of the relationship from the perspective of female, telling us how she view this relationship. The title is of the song is “Rashomon”, which is the title of a famous Japanese movie in the 50’s. While I haven’t watched “羅生門”, I have heard of this phase many times. Ever since the movie, the title of the move become a common Chinese phase, which it described a scenario where there are two version of a story, both contradict each other but both make sense, and we don’t know which one is the truth. This phase got this meaning because the movie basically was a scenario like this.

From the title, I guess it already hinted that the version from the female protagonist is completely different to what had been described in the two previous songs. Since this is a duet, I will represent Juno’s lines with “J:”, Kay’s with “K:” and together “T:”. J: If you still haven’t found this ridiculous, holding the hand of the man who rumours to be crazy. K: Very thankful, you loved me for ten years and still haven’t stopped. Recently, our old classmate told me that I was still in your heart for more than 600 weeks. Sadly, we couldn’t be together for life. But if I told you the truth, then perhaps you will get hurt. I loved hello kitty? I think not. Dickens, is that a comic? Or is this a misunderstanding of a girl? Perhaps you were crazy about me so I have become perfect in your eyes, but really, do you really know me? Those touching moment, it doesn’t always need to be revisited. If it could provide warm to help you get over the coldest days, then keep it in that room. The most touching moment, not necessary need to last. It is hard to forget, all because you keep thinking about it. It is easy to hold onto someone for ten years, but hard to let go. Truthfully, I don’t think it was a waste that we had that relationship. If I meet you on the street I would ask about how you have been. But the facebook that you update every day is pointless to follow. If you want to feel good after breakup, first you shouldn’t keep thinking of the past. Look at a better place and absorb the sunlight for the next relationship. Those touching moment, it doesn’t always need to be revisited. If it could provide warm to help you get over the coldest days, then keep it in that room. The most touching moment, not necessary need to last. It is hard to forget, all because you keep thinking about it. It is easy to cry for ten years, but hard to rub it dry. J: Still sigh for that relationship didn’t reach its climax and had already been buried. K: Worry that missing this relationship will be too crazy. J: Making a curse between the two hearts that could never be resolved. T: Every asked about the method to make a relationship to stay forever young. J: But breaking it with pain. The number for the past, means the old place, not dare to removed and rebuilt. K: Those touching moment, it doesn’t always need to be revisited. K: The most touching moment, not necessary need to last. That hard to get rid of shadow, even if it visits every night, really it had long been buried. J: Love if you still haven’t forget, we had promised someone that we will continue. K: Don’t be crazy. J: Next January. Wish that we could meet up as promised somewhere in Iceland. K: Let our past be buried somewhere in Fukushima.

The song for today is “酷兒” by Juno Mak. The direct English translation of the title is “Odd one”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “If you wanted to be someone’s darling; if you wanted to be someone’s angel. Hope or old fashion, haven’t been blessed by the era. The song for today is “念念不忘” by Juno Mak. This is one of Juno’s newest songs, it was released earlier this year. It is supposed to be the continuation of “耿耿於懷”. The English translation of the title is “Unforgettable”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist thinking of the girl that he was interested in ten years ago and how he is still interested in her. He asid: “Ten years had passed and your movement is still like a young girl. You and I still meet up each night, chase into the dream. The Hello Kitty that I gave you, it had long turn into the lily perfume. Your smile, is still warm as usual. Remained in your comic books, that beautiful pair of godly couple, just like that youth flood, now could no longer be chase back. That story ended so quickly that before it stops breathing it already got buried, making that there is a curse that could never be solved between the two. Let us find out whether we have been going well. Although we will be stranger if we meet, while we wait for our partner to sleep we will peak through facebook. The song for today is “耿耿於懷” by Juno Mak. Many people hated Juno because there was news reporting that he buys fans (as in paying for them to wait for him after shows and chase after his car). He comes from a rich family, so everything seems possible. From memory, it was later reported that those fans were paid by his father, as he wanted his son to be popular. The sad thing is that it created the complete opposite. Since that news, no one really carried about Juno’s music, they just focus on his news. Personally, I quite like his songs, many of these songs deserves to be popular, but never happened due to that news. After the music company that was in shut down (which was called “Silly Thing”, owned by Juno’s older brother), he now focused in being a director. His latest movie “Rigor Mortis” (殭屍) was well received. Back to the song, the title is hard to translate to English, the closest translation is “Dwelling on”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist can’t seems to let this girl out of his heart. He asked whether she is still well, still like to read girl comic? She hasn’t shown her face for a while, perhaps she found her new special someone? He wanted to bring her to see his new girlfriend and listen to her comments on his girlfriend, but perhaps this sounds like a disease. Why that no matter what he tired, he can’t love his girlfriend the same way he loves her. Perhaps it is because he hasn’t practise for too long that that he can’t chase his feeling back. Tried hard to love, but it just feel abnormal. He doesn’t know how to be in love, or perhaps he loves her too deeply that he doesn’t know how to let go? Perhaps it is because he had been lonely for so long that the pad lock have been rusted and couldn’t open anymore. The key is also broken, leaving all the old memories and his loves locked in his heart. So it is not surprising that he couldn’t fall in love again. He sometime worry to walk pass her house. When the things from the past haven’t ended, would it hurt if it emerged again? He wanted to bring her to see his new girlfriend and listen to her comments on his girlfriend, but perhaps this sounds like a disease. Why that no matter what he tired, he couldn’t make himself to loves his girlfriend. Perhaps it is because he hasn’t practise for too long that that he can’t chase his feeling back. Tried hard to love, but it just feel abnormal. He dwelled on his previous love, never been able to get up, so he deserved to get hurt again. Perhaps it is because he had been lonely for so long that the pad lock have been rusted and couldn’t open anymore. His past is like a broken arrow that is left in his body. The song that I chose for today is “假使不可一起安息” by Juno Mak. The direct English translation of the title is “If we can’t rest in peace together”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that at night, it is time to rest. But he will first let her lay down; this is call considerate. When the north wind blow, he will let her feel the heat and light first. If one day they have to face pain, then let him face it, he want her to face other things first. If they can’t rest in peace together, then please die first. HE will wait for her to turn into a butterfly, while he became a zombie. It doesn’t matter how lonely it gets, please die first, and leave him behind, as he is willing to withstand the pain. Stepping on the home running bus, he will let her sit down first. When they are starving, he will also let her enjoy the leave and flower first. If one day they have to face pain, then let him face it alone, he want her to face other things first. The song that I chose for today is “寫得太多” by Juno Mak. This was a song from 2008. The direct English translation of the title is “Wrote too much”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, thought it should be noted that Juno songs are more abstract, so they are generally hard to understand directly. The protagonist said that he doesn’t want to lie, and there is no need for haven. He wanted her to learn more about hope and think more about their beginning. There is no more writing, and human is muted. So let him use his smile to bring her more feeling. He heard too much about wishes and drams, the more he hears the more he wanted to start again. His senses are open and there are no more worries, but he can hear someone singing. So too much have been written about love, but little is written to clearly explain love. So he wishes that she could promise him to feel love. Snow flake can turn into a fruit, and warm wind can release. That will let her to see through the truth and see the beginning. The song that I chose for today is “放棄愛情” by Juno Mak. The direct English translation of the title is “give up love”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that he put her photo next to his pillow. In his eyes, she is getting discolour. His old memories are being replay in his heart and tears coming out from his eyes. He felt that he is stupid, waiting for her behind his enemy back. She didn’t care about him, but he felt that looking at her shadow is enough. It is not too late to give up love, he can pretend to be happy at night. He just wishes that he can use his limited time to ensure that she and her boyfriend’s love could last forever. He just blames his body clock running too slow, can’t get him in love but yet still believe in love. He take away his imagination of falling in love, and he think that he will get used to looking at the two of them smile. He still have feeling toward her, and her smiley face is still in his head. But he knows that he can no longer hold her hand as she had finally meet up with another person. Hope you will like the song.

The song for today is “借火” by Juno Mak. Juno is one of the most underrated singers that I know of. His songs are that bad, but because of his image, looks and background, people tents to ignore him and his songs. He hardly sings these days, but he recently directed a Chinese horror movie. The direct English translation of the title is “Borrow fire”, this is a phase that smoker uses, they ‘borrow’ fire from people to start their cigarette.

The lyrics of the song are in a way about love. It start off with the protagonist said that he just went into a convenient store for cigarette but he got no fire. He saw her walk by and wanted to borrow some fire, which he believe isn’t asking too much. Even if he didn’t say a word, she should be able to tell that he just wants fire (in this lyrics, it seems that fire also referred to sex). He didn’t expect much when they get close. Perhaps they might watched TV together quietly and she will slowly forget about him. She doesn’t need to remember who he is. He didn’t ask much from her, he just want her to give him some fire. He can light up the fire for her as well and then start looking at her face. The smoke will show that they have burned their memories. He looks at the mirror everyday just because he doesn’t want to love someone else, and randomly he bump into her and notice that she has a broken heart. He doesn’t wish for much, just wanted some company. They can just drink soup together quietly, and she doesn’t need to know him well. He just wanted her for some fire. When the cigarette burnout, she can completely forget about him, it is better that she forgot about him. He can give she some happiness, he might be able to heal her wound. He doesn’t wish for any ending, any sadness, he just wanted all the memories to be burned with the smoke. Fireworks are too lonely, but cigarette, at least you can wait for someone to light it up. The song that I chose for today is “沒有人” by Juno Mak. This is one of Juno’s most famous songs. The direct English translation of the title is “Nobody”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. Opposite to the song “有人”, in this song, the protagonist fallen in love with this girl. This girl always seems to protect him and takes care of him. But eventually he realised that she never love him as a partner. He realised that he was just too sensitive. All the good thing that he thought she did was really just his imagination. The song that I chose for today is “有人” by Juno Mak. Many people hated Juno, but personally, I think some of his songs are pretty good. The direct English translation of the title is “Someone”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist rejecting a girl that loves him. He told her not to cry as she did nothing wrong. He hope that she can reserved this love and pass it onto the next person that she love. He knows that she treat him very well, and he wonder why he have to do this to her. If he knew that he can’t accept her, perhaps he should just pretend that he didn’t know that she loves him, then at least they could still be friends. Hope you will like the song.
