The song for today is "愛和承諾" by Jacky Cheung and Priscilla Chan. I chose this song for today because it is one of my best friend's wedding. I didn't go to his weding celebration as it is overseas and so to celebrate his wedding, I chose this song to dedicate to him and wish him all the best for stepping into a new stage of life. (As a side story, another of my best friends also told me that he will be getting married at the end of January. Making me feel so old and stuck in life without moving forward. But I am very greatful that both of them managed to find their true love and move to the next stage of life). Back to the song, the direct english translation of the title is "Love and promises".

The lyrics of the song are about love. I will represent Jacky's line by "J", Priscilla's line by "P" and together by "T". P: Love and promises are like ring and flower. You used your life to protect it, waiting for the happy ending. J: Couldn't let love be quite, searching only in memories. P: When you felt that time fly past J: You turn around and look at he again. The song for today is “傻女的新衣” by Priscilla Chan. The lyrics of this song is a continuation of the story of the song from yesterday (i.e. “傻女”). “傻女” was from 1988, while this one was released in 2003. The melody of the two songs are the same, both are the adaptation of María Conchita Alonso’s “La Loca”. The direct English translation of the title is “Silly girl’s new clothes”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, talking about how the protagonist still thinks of her ex-boyfriend through his wool jumper. It said, tonight, she saw her boyfriend felt a bit cold, all thanks to her ex-boyfriend, she can borrowed the wool jumper to her boyfriend. She doesn’t have the strength to talk about the past, but she understands what’s call fate. When her boyfriend put on her ex’s jacket, he looks like him, he could replace her ex. He gave her happiness, but her ex only treat her as a backup. The wool jumper wouldn’t care that her ex was it owner, so she felt that she could also belong to someone else. As her ex could become anyone’s lover, he could also act on behalf of her ex. Although memories always last long, but the painful love didn’t leave any scare behind. In the past, she did a lot of thing for her ex and it was touching, but no matter how silly she is now, she will not go back to that flaw. That night she saw her ex fallen in sleep, she hater herself for not being able to touch him. So she could only stole her ex’s jumper to compensate the fact that she couldn’t get him. Comparing him to her ex, she understand what’s call happiness. That jumper doesn’t match with her ex, as her boyfriend could ware it better. He is much more real comparing to her ex, even his clothes get jealous. Hope you will like the song.

Today the song is “傻女” by Priscilla Chan. This is one of my favourite song. It is a Cantonese cover of “La Loca” by María Conchita Alonso. The direct English translation of the title is “Silly girl”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, talking about the protagonist saw her ex-boyfriend jumper and she still think of him. She said, tonight, she once again lonelily looking at the empty air. Putting on his jacket, reanimating the memory from that day. The wool made long sleeve, hug her closely and quietly gaze at the sky. Letting the lips on his shirt to smile and say that she loves his smell. She hate it that him and her is a movie that have already gone down from showing in cinema. So now she could only invite his wool jacket to act as him every day. At night it will sit with her, silence but it allows her to be close to him and hand her body to him. It let her to be her old self again, allow her to be happy. Acting again as some beautiful story protagonist, acting as the lover that he was looking for last year. The song for today is “跳舞街” by Priscilla Chan. This song is one of the Cantonese cover versions of “Eat You Up” by Angie Gold. There are two Cantonese cover versions, the other one is by Samantha Lam, which I will talk about tomorrow. The direct English translation of the title is “Dancing Street”.

The lyrics of the song are about relaxing. The protagonist said that it is only a minute away until the sky turn fully dark; there is no need to rush to calculate the success or failure. Time flows as fast as lighting, if you want to be happy, then you should go shopping. There is no need to turn the volume down, the light of dusk is swaying in the wind. The cream coloured headphone is comforting, and legs just never wanted to stay in the usual spot. Tomorrow feels so far away and the world is rotating, do you wanna dance tonight. Tomorrow feels so far away, everything is rotating, do you wanna hold me tight. She should have been more active, there is nothing bad to dance in the swinging wind. The new moves might look weird, but she felt very high this moment. There is no need to be ambiguous, as the scenery at dusk is very beautiful. Ho Jyut dai, Chan Bou Lai, Ng Jyun Zai, Ngai Suk Fai, Si Hung Man Wai (These are all supposed to be name, some of them sounds like some Cantonese phase, for example, Ng Jyun Zai sounds like “Not willing” in Cantonese). Snakes and ants, Lau Bing Dai (another made up name, but sounds similar in Cantonese as Runny nose), combined with god (these three can all somewhat interpreted as made up name, they don’t really hold much meaning through the context either), all are dancing, moving their legs and twisting their hair, do you wanna dance tonight. The song for today is “時間瓶” by Priscilla Chan. This was from a concept album call “愛戀二千小時” by Priscilla, which was sold with a novel of the same name of the album. This album didn’t sell too well back when it was released, but there are lot of gems in there that many people don’t know about. One of them is this song. The direct English translation of the title is “Time bottle”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, the protagonist is about to force to be separated with her boyfriend (from memory, in the story of the novel, her boyfriend got cancer and are about to die). She said she once asked him and herself how could she be captured. Looking at him, looking at her, but why it still not enough. She wishes that there is a bottle that could capture the happy moments. Keeping him, keeping her, forced to end the song. Time, time, what makes my heart fly away. Like wave passes, dream passes, always so quickly that she feels it is not enough. If ther is a bottle that can carry all her time and years, then in the future she can uses it all to be in love with him again. But in this life, she has no regrets. She was glad that she found him. She smile even when she cry. The sky will not get dim, her heart will not be darken. They might only manage to meet for a short time, but it is the deepest and the most realistic. She doesn’t know how to thanks him for leaving so many beautiful things for her. If her whole life is captured in a bottle, then she will be able to use it all to be in love with him again in the future. Extending him, extending her, forced to end this song. The song for today is “二人時間” by Priscilla Chan. This is one of the songs that I love so much. I have been trying to search for a studio version for a long time, but a few years ago I realised that there is no studio version for this song. This song was first introduced in Priscilla’s concert in 1997 when she was collaborating with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. From memory, she was the second singer collaborated with the orchestra, with Jacky Cheung being the first. The direct English translation of the title is “Two people time”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that it is enough for her to just look at him, no matter how the scenery falls backward. The eyes sight lock onto each other, as they are worry that they will lost the memory of being together. She finally manage to be alone with him. She felt that she is not on Earth. She had been waited for this for a long time. Hugging him, it is not unhappy, but she is worry that she will lose her senses, and how was she found by luck. It felt like honey mixed with a glass of water; or like some sweat drip from her eyes. Happiness is truly a dream, when it comes true, she doesn’t know how to talk about it. It felt like as if the flowers are all waiting for this moment to blossom for him. Time, when she is being hug by him she felt that it slip by without notice. Time, wrote on the outside of his door, floating around but not wasted. Let her to silently close the door to get along with the rest of her life. Let her know that when he is with her, every second that they spent together are very meaningfully. Time, laying on his eyebrow, disappearing through the ups and downs. To match the theme of Boxing day, I pick “禮物” by Priscilla Chan as the song for today. This song was released on 1996. The direct English translation of the title is "Gift". Though this song only match boxing day by its title :p the lyrics of the song are about the protagonist breaking up with her boyfriend.

The song begins with the protagonist visiting her boyfriend at night with a present in her hand. While his words sounds very typical, his heart was full of love, but no passion in her eyes. She felt that the moon is crying, staring at him, seeing that his body is shaking. How will she be able to return everything in her hands back to him such that she wouldn’t own him anything? Hoping that he will forgive her, she is worry that she wouldn’t be able to fall into sleep. How her heart that previous loves him is so heartless and easily changed. Looking at him crying, looking at him still smiling, all the love that still remain in her heart had now all returned to him and her heart had stop beating. If regret, she will give him a night. If she shares his pain, she thinks that it would be a heavy burden. Tonight, she gave him this present, giving a present to a person that she is about to say goodbye to. The song for today is “柯德莉夏萍穿過的鞋” by Priscilla Chan. This is another song from Priscilla’s “情意結” album. The direct English translation of the title is “Shoes that Audrey Hepburn had worn”. I personally think that this song should catch more attention. This song was a side track from the album, but it got a very unusual but easily approachable melody which I think it got the quality to be a hit song.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It said: this pair perhaps is too working style. That pair perhaps could create noise. This pair is suitable to wear for big performance. But which pair will make her walk as elegantly as Audrey Hepburn? This pair is too bright, just like it tried to give out everything, making her looks like she wanted to catch all his attention in one night. That pair perhaps could be put at the display window, but if she wears it, it will make her uncomfortable and feels like her soul leave her body. Yes, she wanted him to fall in love with her. Stepping onto the sky garden, this date perhaps could exchange for a limited amount of warm, but will come will limitless pain. Perhaps he will fly to New York to greet her and make her doesn’t know how to respond. This journey is like traveling from North Point (a place in Hong Kong) to heaven; no matter which shoes that she wears, it will still be far away. Maybe that pair is for her wedding. Choosing again and again, but there are no contestant that could make it into the final. This pair may not make her life beautiful. 7th July 2014 (把悲傷看透時 – Priscilla Chan)

The song that I chose for today is “把悲傷看透時” by Priscilla Chan. Priscilla is one of my favourite singers. She recently had a concert in Hong Kong, but sadly I was not in Hong Kong during that time so I missed it. This song was from 2003, from one of her lesser known album “情意結”. When that album first came out in 2003, I wasn’t really a fans of Priscilla’s song, so I didn’t bought it. A few years down the track, one day, I suddenly wanted to listened to the songs that I grow up with and realised that so many of the songs that I liked were sung by Priscilla. That’s started my collection of Priscilla’s albums. Currently I am only a few albums away from collecting all her albums (but they are ultra hard to find….). This album “情意結” were one of them as it was produced at a time when she wasn’t too popular, so hard core fans will probably wouldn’t sell it and others who doesn’t like her too much wouldn’t bought it in the first place. Lucky, late last year, the music company decided to reissue the album. Although it is selling at a higher price as they now turn it into 24 Gold version for better sound quality, I bought it when I first saw it as it was so hard to find the original version. So after all these years I finally manage to own an actual CD copy of this album 3 weeks ago. Listening to the whole album today, this album is now one of my favourite, I love every song in the album. Anyway, back to the song for today, the direct English translation of the title is “when we can see through sadness”.

The lyrics of the song are the protagonist looking through her feeling after breaking up from a third person perspective. The lyrics said “it is not odd that that night it started to snow, so that it could stop the blood from her wound. That made her remembers the cruellest moment of her life. That night, he analysed his action in the past few months, all of a sudden he doesn’t want to continue their relationship. Coming back, the view from the train is now reversing. She forgot why she was in the city. The tears that she remembers for life is trapped in her eyes like the water in a lake. But sadly, no matter how much she cries, these tears would get her love one retune to her side. Who said that there was so much work to do? In the busy world, sadness is not allowed. The thing that she worried the most is that she forgets how she managed to fallen to sleep in the past. Don’t mention who she was waking up for. Then she started to not care about him. She even let him know about this. The thing that she remembers for life, at the end is just so dull; just like it would be fine to live without feeling. The saying that she still doesn’t understand is “when seeing through sadness”. In the future, she no longer care who she will spent the rest of her life with.” Hope you will like this song as much as I do.

The song that I chose for today is “奇妙旅程” by Priscilla Chan. Priscilla is one of my favourite singers and this song is also one of my favourite. The direct English translation of the title is “Wonderful journey”.

The lyrics of the song are once again about love. At the beginning, the protagonist said that each of them is tired, and they are lost. They are both at an extreme. If they get tired of each other, perhaps they should be separated and then this relationship will break. When he is moving further and further away, she tried to continue her life, tried to date other people, hoping that she will fall in love again. But she realised that she always think of him, the further he goes away, the more she think of him. Now no one is looking after her when she is down. This moment, when she meets him again, she realised that he still loves her and they have been going around in circle. There are no too much in life. She wonders what kind of heart would be able to make her stay. She never leave when she is looking for something. She also wonder who accompanies her would make her life more interesting. There wouldn’t be too many true love in our life, so she wonder could he leave her his true heart. They will share their dreams and enjoy their wonderful journey together. The song that I chose for today is "痴情夢醒” by Priscilla Chan. This is one of the 4 songs that were in Priscilla’s first album. Not many people know about this album, firstly it is because that it wasn’t her solo album, it was an album with three different singer. Secondly, out of the 4 songs, only two of those were in Cantonese, the other two were in Japanese. The direct English translation of the title is “Awaken from a love dream”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It begins by telling us that there were many relationships in the past. When they breakup, they couldn’t remember the happiness that they had. Tears dropped and so painful that can’t keep quiet, imprinted this sadness in our memories. At the beginning of the story, it was created by the protagonist and her boyfriend. There were tender and laughter. She only wishes that he could stay with her. But now, everything had past, and her heart is dead. She wishes that all her memories could be wiped. Who was the person that got us in love and then called upon sadness? Who would understand the sadness in love? The love is already cooled off and become ice cold. So please let go even if you don’t want to as you must wake up from your dream. Hope you will like the song.
