16th Oct 2015 (思覺失調 – Wilfred Lau)

I have been a bit busy in the last few days, so many things had happened. I went for an interview for a job that I applied long ago (before I even applied for my current job), only to find out during the interview that one of the interviewers is a good friend of my current boss!!! Ultimate interview tragic.

Anyway, back to what this blog is about. The song for today is “思覺失調” by Wilfred Lau. This song is a reader request. I remember I used to listen to this song a lot during my oversea exchange in uni. The direct English translation of the title is “Early Psychosis”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “Still ok? Still couldn’t sleep at night? Silly, forgetting to bring your keys may make you feel angry. Still care about you, so wishes that I could still ask every day. But at the end, I understand that my role no longer matches your need, so I let him to replace me to care for you. Asked too much and you just wouldn’t want to answered. So tight that Sagittarius couldn’t stand it. Loving you makes you feel uncomfortable, so I left and never said anything. Wishes that from tomorrow, I will no longer care about you, I would understand that I couldn’t change it and that you are far away. Even if I tried my best to keep every of my promises, at the end, no one will pity me. Very dangerous, like soon I will be psychosis. Couldn’t accept the truth and so I imagined to continue the story. You voice still circled my ears, but you couldn’t tell my position. Very dangerous, like soon I will be psychosis or am I being too cheap, or that I cared too much, too shallow? I still tried even after a hundred messages, but I still couldn’t get you to care about me. What’s left is just what have been overdraft. I have done wrong, so all it recorded are my bad points. Painful because it was me you make you disappointed. I tried to make up for you, but I guess it is too late. If one day you talked about marriage, I will use the luck of my entire life to wish you the best. I still keep the movie tickets of the films that we watched together. But should I still dump these tickets?” Hope you will like the song.

14th May 2015 (戰友 – Wilfred Lau)

The song for today is “戰友” by Wilfred Lau. This song is a reader request. This song actually brings back some memories as it was one of the songs that I listen quite frequently when I was studying overseas. The direct English translation of the title is “Comrade”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist really thanks his very friend who was able to be with him when he needed support. The protagonist said: “We had an appointment, but it got delayed by 4 years. I still haven’t asked you, over the years, did you become less straight forward? Now you and I are both busy, unlike back then. The time when we both hold a wooden guitar to work our hardest, waiting on the cold seat for opportunities. We had decided to not to think about the past, but why do I still remember the time, when that half smoked cigarette lay on the sofa. Now I finally managed to fulfil the promise that I made back then. Missed, but now caught up, please don’t be mad. Looking at you smiling, felt a bit of an irony. It is you, comrade, be there with me to the end, pushed through the hurdle. You waved your hand in the audience seat, so at least your tears aren’t wasted. But the funny thing is that me as the comrade, had won all the applause, but still guilty. Perhaps we couldn’t hold hands, but we could shake hands and wish that you would accept. Although we don’t love each other, but at least I achieved something, then it would be enough. Clearly we were the best match, but we could become a couple. But I can still call you best friend, perhaps it is my luck. Perhaps that we can fight together is our fate, so it is worth waiting. At the end, sadly, I missed the identity that I wanted the most. Perhaps friendship is more important than love. Simply said, comrade take care, and it is enough”. To a certain extent, I think this song is describing the relationship between Wilfred and Denise Ho, as once they were together (or as least being very very close friend). Anyway, hope you will enjoy the song.

6th Mar 2015 (再任我唱 – Wilfred Lau, Joey Tang, Patrick Lui and Terence Yin)

The song for today is “再任我唱” by Wilfred Lau, Joey Tang, Patrick Lui and Terence Yin. This song is a reader request, it is the theme song for a HKTV drama. Wilfred is a singer, though these days he don’t produce much songs and become more of a movie star. Joey and Patrick are members of a famous band “Taichi”. Terence is rather interesting, he have mostly been a movie star, but he had once become a solo singer and later become a member of “Alive” (which consisted of Daniel Wu (吳彥祖), Andrew Lien (連凱), Conroy Chan (陳子聰) and Terence). Alive formed in 2005 but was disbanded in 2006, because at the beginning they formed to make a movie, but during the process they said that they had disagreement within the team and posted video of their disagreement onto the internet. It became rather big. But later on when the movie was in cinema, all the media realised that the so call disagreement was planned, and the four of them was just trying to make fun of the media and used them for promotion. This got so many media angry as they though that they were their friends (and so why they reported their news), but at the end Alive just used them for promotion. As so many media were angry, in 2006 Alive apologised and disbanded. Anyway, back to the song, the direct English translation of the title is “Let me sing again”.

The lyrics of the song are about people had given up their singing dreams, and now wishing to gain it back (I guess it goes in line with the HKTV drama story). Since there are 4 singers here, I will represent Wilfred by “W”, Joey by “J”, Patrick by “P” and Terence by “T”. All: Why before we lost our dreams, we will use the microphone to sing. No need to be so weak, it is normal to be brave. Need to let our throat to expand. Our heart is full of hopes, worse comes worse we can just pretend that it is all just a dream. Partners and friends are here, with or against the flow, we will still have the courage to sing. W: The world diluted my truth self, turned my life to focused on work, to a point that I lost my motivation. My dreams had long gone. P: Let me pick back up the skill that I used to have. Climb and again the cliffs and unreachable places. The reality had once worn away my passion, but I decided that this time I will try my hardest. J: Jealously or misunderstanding, don’t let it keep going. J, W and T: I love music the most, no matter how old I am. All: Why before we lost our dreams, we will use the microphone to sing. No need to be so weak, it is normal to be brave. Making our soul to burn and expand, everyone should be full of hope. Don’t worry that this might all just be a dream, with our partners and friends, with or against the flow, we will be dare to move forward.” Hope you will like the song.

29th Oct 2014 (滄海遺珠 – Kay Tse and Wilfred Lau)

The song for today is “滄海遺珠” by Kay Tse and Wilfred Lau. This song is a reader request. The title is a bit hard to translate as it is a Chinese four worded phrase, meaning something valuable have been unnoticed in a sea of other common things. Directly through the words, it means “a forgotten peal in the sea”. The English translation from google translate, “talent left unrecognized”, seems to describe it quite ok, though it doesn’t necessary need to be talent.

The lyrics of the song are about love. Since it is a duet, Wilfred’s part would be represent by “W:”, Kay’s by “K:” and when they sing together “T:”. W: Everyone loves gems and wealth, so they don’t really understand your beauty. K: I am the only one, that saw you and closed my heart, just like the legend of a closed shell. If everyone in the world oversight and never got to fully understand you. W: Let those stupid, normal people look down at you. T: Don’t let those people affect your believes. K: Just like a peal buried deep in the sea. K: Deep in the sea. K: So that no one understands your goods. W: Only I would be able to understand God’s idea. T: Found this shining peal in a pile of sand. W: others framed you as a normal, boring kid. K: Like a kid. W: But your thoughts, I don’t believe T: that they are meaningless. K: No one understand how to admire it, T: but God knows that everyone can. W: Perhaps this abnormal beauty K: Not many people know how to admire it. W: So that is why you have been so polite, to a point that you are too humble. K: Never hoped for love. If everyone in the world oversight and never got to fully understand you. W: Let those stupid, normal people forget about you. T: If others don’t like you, I will be waiting for you on this side. K: Who are you? Who are you? W: Do you have a place to shine? T: Others are too busy admiring their looks. W: So didn’t have time to care about your self-cultivation. T: Only I will stay behind and clap for you. W: Perhaps no one care about you. K: But T: I will. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “二等天使” by Wilfred Lau. The direct English translation of the title is “Second grade angel”.

The lyrics are about love. It is about the protagonist thinks that his girlfriend is perfect, so perfect that she is like an angel. But she has one problem, which is that she has him as her boyfriend. He feels that he is a disgrace to her. He prefers her not to tell others that they are together. But his girlfriend never looks down at him, she thinks that he is great and he is grateful about that as well. Hope you will like the song.

9th Feb 2013 (神啊!求求讓我睡 – Wilfred Lau)

The song that I chose for today is “神啊!求求讓我睡” by Wilfred Lau. I remember I listen to this song so much when I was studying overseas. The direct English translation is “God! Please let me sleep”. I remember back then I can’t fall to sleep (I was still awake at 5am in the morning and I have to go to school the next day at around 10). I was so frustrated (which make it even harder to fall into sleep), and I saw this song on internet. I play it and it makes everything worse. Yes, you got that right, this song is not for people to listen if they can fall to sleep, it is far too powerful that it actually makes you more awake.

The lyrics are basically about a guy who can’t sleep and it show the pressure that I talk about (where we wanted to sleep because we need to wake up early the next day, but because of the pressure it makes it harder to sleep). At the start he told us that it’s 3am in the morning and he is still awake. He looked out to the window and it dark, but he is not sleepy. He tried to make himself sleep, but it didn’t work and it make him feel crazy. The radio is playing classic song, and thinking about that he have to wake up tomorrow to get to work make him worry. He tried counting sheep to help himself to fall to sleep, but it didn’t work. He yelled “God! Please let me sleep”, he jumped off the bed and drank some water. It had been 5 days now and he wishes that tonight he could fall to sleep like a normal person, he feel so that that he almost cried. Now, buses started their service, and he finally feel a bit sleepy, but someone make a wrong call and wake him up again. Now it’s 7 o’clock and he looks like a zombie. This go on two more days and finally he feel sleepy, even though it’s in the morning, but he didn’t care, he just wanted to sleep.

To be honest, this song wouldn’t help you sleep, but if you feel very angry about why you can’t fall to sleep (when you are in the situation like the protagonist, I am quite sure you will get mad), this song will surely help you to release some of your anger. Hope you will like the song.

2nd Nov 2012 (Shut Up Baby – Wilfred Lau)

The song that I chose for today is “Shut Up Baby” by Wilfred Lau. Wilfred have never been too famous really, I guess he came out at the wrong time. He was the winner of a singing contest, however, I think two years since he sign on the company, the company was bought out and later on closed down it music production department. From memory, Wilfred was still on training during those years, so he never got the chance to produce an album. He wasn’t able to get another company to sign him on as a singer until 2004. I guess the most famous things about him was his new with Hocc, there was one point most people thinks that he was Hocc boyfriend. The other thing I guess is that recently his relationship with Joey Yung was exposed to the public.

Anyways back to the song. This song is rather a fun song, I don’t have much feeling attached to this song, but I listen to it from time to time as I think it help to release your anger sometime.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist complaining his girlfriend as he thinks that she is very annoying. He told us that he never thought she is this annoying. He thinks that she got the beauty and knowledge, but he would never though that she don’t know how to shut up. Throughout the song he told us that he will still love her for who she is, but there is a sense that one day he might not be able to take it anymore. Hope you will enjoy this song.
