The song for today is “逝去的愛” by Anita Mui. This song is a cover version, the original was “うわさのディスコ・クイーン” by FeiFei Ou-Yang(歐陽菲菲, a Taiwanese singer sung in Japan). Due to the popularity of the song, Fei Fei later sung the mandarin version “Love is over”. As the song was so popular, it was also turned in Cantonese. There were two versions, one called “再度孤獨” by Jenny Tseng (甄妮) the other is “逝去的愛” by Anita Mui. Today I will only focus on Anita’s version, I might talk about the other version in the coming days. The direct English translation of anita’s version is “Love is over”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It said: “Love is over, just like that beautiful dream that passes away. The love from the beginning rushed away, stop thinking of your old love one. Love is over, cry for the things in the past. How much sadness, things past by and you couldn’t chase them back. The song for today is “別說愛情苦” by Anita Mui and Andy Lau. This song is a reader request. The English translation of the title is “Don’t say love is bitter”.

The lyrics of the song are love. As it is a duet, I will represent Anita’s line by “F:”, Andy’s by “M:” and when they sing together “T:”. F: I found it hard to love and I feel helpless. Sometime I really wanted to cry, how can I keep the love? It was really touching and fulfilling, but love is like floating. How could I found my true love in the sea of people? M: I know that you found love is hard, and I got the same feeling. I am getting a bit numb, as I always found that I disturbed the pace of love. Always full of work and friends, but never found love. Really hope to be able to find love, so that I wouldn’t be alone. Why your love and my love are full of bitterness. F: I had been truthful and putted in true love, but why love just couldn’t stay. The lyrics of the song are about life. The protagonist said that when she gaze at the sea, she felt tired, but there are not tears and wordless. Gazing at the sky, she only feel confuse about her feeling. Her heart is like a small wooden boat, couldn’t see far ahead, but will keep going forward. Who is controlling her in her life? She will try to fight back in the sea of people. She feels that time pass by like water, so she can’t keep thinking about her past. All there is left are thought, and they never tangle together. In the smoke, she think about her past. Her looks changes a lot, situation changes a lot, but her emotions and thoughts haven’t changed a bit. Hope you will enjoy the song.

The song for today is “妖女” by Anita Mui. I chose this song for today because it is Anita’s birthday. Although I am not a fan of Anita songs, but I have to admit that she was big star from the 80’s to the 00’s. Even though she had passed away many years ago, but she still remains in our heart. Although there are still many stars as famous as she was, but none are willing to use their popularity as a strength to help out the society and stand up for their believes (the only one that I could think of is Denise Ho, one of Anita’s students, the only one that I think that learned all the essentials from Anita). Anyway back to the song, the title in English is “Evil girl”, but if translated more by the meaning, it is closer as “Gipsy”. This song is the Chinese cover version of a Japanese song “立ちっぱなしのBad Boy” by Ann Lewis (アン・ルイス).

The lyrics of the song are about how a boy bump into this ‘evil girl’ and got attracted by her. It said, people are gathering on the street, quietly saying how bad this boy is. He arrived with only glove on his left hand and gives them a cold smile. He arrived with a lot of pride, but also with a lot of taste. Many had fallen for him and he hand also destroyed and trashed many. Everyone called him Bad Boy. But destiny led him to meet this evil girl at night. He should be careful tonight that his heart might be taken by this girl. She is will to show her pride side. Her bright red laps might make him hate her and got him crazy about her. The evil girl put her hands on her hip and side stare at the bad boy, and slightly opens her lips, which could distract his thought. The song for today is “心仍是冷” by Anita Mui and Anthony Lun. This song was very popular in the 90’s, it was a theme song for a TV drama. The direct English translation of the title is “Heart is still cold”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, how the protagonists had been through many different relationships and still haven’t found the right person. The lyrics sung by Anita will be shown by F: and Anthony will be M:, and when they sing together, T:. A: Seeing it through, my heart already got used to it without sigh. Sneers get dispersed, covering the brightness in her dream. Relationship is just like cold rain, very repetitive, making me often experience separation. M: Have been loved and had been through pain, because disappointments love to hug me. Hidden arrows all shotted at me, making me sitting by myself. Not many lover accompany me we I grow up. Love likes to make fun of me, making me keep falling and hard to keep up. T: I still care for you, but it kills me when at the end the love will get transfer to someone else. In the long cold night, my dreams gets bigger, and slowly I started to get used for these bumpy relationships. The stars up in the sky are like eyes that are hiding its tears. But crying sadly wouldn’t bring back your youth. Now being alone, I sigh silently, and it left behind an endless icy cold road. 9th July 2014 (歌之女 – Denise Ho/Anita Mu)

The song for today is “歌之女” by Denise Ho. This song was from Denise’s “Recollection” album, in which almost all the songs (including this song “歌之女”) were sung by Anita Mu. Anita was Denise singing teacher, and of cause a very successful singer as well. I guess Anita means a lot for Denise so from time to time, Denise will have a song dedicated to Anita. This time is a whole album. I chose focus on Denise version this time because I really like this version, to a certain extent, even more than Anita’s version. I think the emotion that she expressed through this song is deeper and more than Anita’s version. The direct English translation of the title is “Girl of songs”.

I feel that to a certain extent, the lyrics of the song are about the life of Anita. In the original Anita’s version, there were choir singing “Learning to sing, practicing to sing; was accompanied by those songs. Got tired? Got hungry? Singing loudly would make me feel better. Singing at day time, singing at night; haven’t fully understand what is the lyrics are about. Still singing because I wanted you to like me”. This choir is missing in Denise’s version, but it doesn’t affect the song much. The main part said “I remember that little girl singer from the past, she was very thin and small. I remember that she was singing old songs with an old band in the not so high class distract. The theatre was never full, but she keeps singing because she want to fill her stomach. The old cloth looks ok from a distance, but at close inspection they are full of holes. I remember that little girl singer from the past, she likes to see rain flow in the sky. Perhaps she likes to see the rain when it got blow by the wind and their direction become predictable. Maybe one day she will become famous, and she will not be hungry again. Maybe one day the cloths will not be full of holes and she will have more than half a listener. She is me, that she in the past is me today. I never thought that you will give me all your love. Sing for you, sing for you, thanks you for not leaving me. Got tired? Got lost? Thank you for helping me to stand up again. If I can forever sing for you, then I will not need anything else. I particularly like Denise version, because when she sing “她是我　當天的她今是我 (She is me, that she in the past is me today)”, I feel that she is continuing Anita’s legacy. Anita had done many charity works and had built a very good foundation for future comer in Hong Kong music industry. When Denise sings that line, I feel that she is making the promise to continue Anita’s work, to give back to the society. That is why I like this version more as it added an extra layer of feeling toward the song. But of cause, without the original and Anita’s work, this version would not feel this way, so I have also linked to Anita’s original version for you to enjoy.

The song that I chose for today is “朦朧夜雨裡” by Anita Mui. This song was originally sung by Tony Leung (梁朝偉, a very famous actor in Hong Kong), but Anita love the song and decided to sing the song. This song now becomes one of Anita’s classic. The direct English translation of the title is “In the burry rainy night”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that in the light rainy night, it shows sadness. Reading his letter, she feels that their love hasn’t cool off. In the letter, he said good bye, but she feels that in his eyes, he is looking forward to seeing her again the next night. Looking back, thinking about the emotionless in present day. She wonders who would warm her up again, to keep her away from the cold. In the photo of their candle dinner, the smell of the champagne is stimulating her eyes. “I say a little prayer”, please don’t make the store go away. “Just give a little time”, please just give her a night. Back to her hug, how could this kiss be just an ordinary kiss? He get closer to her, kisses her, want her from his heart, and give her tonight. Hope you will like the song. The song for today is “慾望野獸街” by Anita Mui. This song was produced in the early 90’s, it is the Cantonese cover version of a Japanese song call “ジャングル Jungle” by 田原俊彥. The direct English translation of the title is “Desire Wild Beast Street”.

The lyrics are rather simple. It said night turn bad again, and the skinny waist wanted to dance. Her desire tells her to be bad and she doesn’t want to be nice anymore. Loneliness is getting bigger, it shake when the wind blow. Fully of prey on her street, and she is making her way through the wild beast street. Her eyes are like guns, when they blink, they kill. The song that I chose for today is “女人之苦” by Anita Mui and Andy Hui. The direct English translation of the title is “Bitterness of female”.

The lyrics of the song area bout love. It said, there is no win or lose in love. If you see a woman with tears, men will feel the pain as well. Difficult and bitter, so please don’t try to distinguish between love an evil, all she wanted to is to find someone that could take care of her. She had spent too much time swimming in the pool of time. Someone had blind her, because she was too easy to be blinded. Letting go of a relationship is harder than starting a new one. She might want to keep going, but God will try to force her to wake up. From then on, men come and press her door bell. But she laughed at each of them, and turned down their passionate love. Being a woman is difficult, people will blame them being tough, the protagonist guessed that he just said the truth of what women think. Love is their lifelong dream, but tries not to care too much.
