21st Jan 2015 (沙沙的雨 – Anthony Lun and David Lui / Laughter In The Rain – Neil Sedaka)

The song for today is “沙沙的雨” by Anthony Lun and David Lui. This song was the Chinese cover version of “Laughter In The Rain” by Neil Sedaka. It was very popular when it was released in 1993. Back then thought I found it very annoying, as the melody was quite slow with not so interesting lyrics (I guess it is rather abstract that at that age I fail to understand what it was trying to describe). All I remember was that the “Ooh 沙沙的”, sung in a classic duet way, and the most annoying thing about it is that it stuck in my head so easily, so making an already annoying song even more annoying :p The English translation of the title is “Rustle of rain”.

The lyrics are about the protagonist thinking of the old time when he was with his best friend, and coincidentally he bump into this friend and bought back a lot of memories. The protagonist said: “Ooh in the rustle of rain, there were you and me. Listening to you laughing at me not as naïve as I was. Ooh the rustle rain is fluttering toward you and me. You know, I wanted to experience the past again. Who is knocking on the window? Just like a light rain. It sounds so familiar, is an old friend. We once accompanied each other, floated in the wind, flied at night. We were free, like a wild horse on the street. So we had once been wild. Thinking about the past, it created a ripple in our heart. I followed you to sing crazily. When we cried, we both pretend that it was just rain that wet our face. I am happy tonight as I managed to meet you again. We had been so busy and it great to meet up. Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to the original English version below.

17th Aug 2014 (彎彎的月亮 (Cantonese)/(Mandarin) – David Lui)

The song that I chose for today is “彎彎的月亮” by David Lui. This song was one of David’s classic. The English translation of the title is “Crescent Moon” (or directly “Curly moon”). This song got both Mandarin and Cantonese version, both version share the same name. Here today, I will only focus on the Cantonese version.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist thinking about the past. The lyrics are very poem like, so it is a bit hard to translate, hopefully my translation could still retain most of the meaning and feeling. It said, “soft as snow, from the galaxy slowly go through the window’s yarn. Socking through the slow wind, that the smell of osmanthus. In the arms far away, like floating to home. Memories that are soft and silky, passed through time. Wooo, dizzy as drunk, pushed open the window of the heart. Within the wind of fresh air, is the scenery of home. Feeling melancholic, but still gaze at this place that isn’t home. Who was that person that told me with love that I should not blame the sky for all the bad things.  Wooo, thinking about home, it still feels warm, there aren’t autumn& winter and cold night. I think of home, and it doesn’t change, still gazing at home even in dream. Ohhh, in the dream the night last long. Thinking of home, it still looks cute, there aren’t sadness and melancholic. Hope you will like the song, I have also linked to the Mandarin version for comparison.

30th July 2014 (求你講清楚 – David Lui / Nothing’s gonna change my love for you – Glen Medeiros)

The song for today is “求你講清楚” by David Lui. I only heard this song for the first time a few days ago and I like it. It is the Chinese cover version of “Nothing’s gonna change my love for you” by Glen Medeiros. The direct English translation of the Chinese title is “Beg you to be clear”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It said, looking at every day, every night, every month, and the protagonist would suddenly feel down. He doesn’t know why, endure gives him pain. In a clam, still, cold environment, it is like a large wave in the sea, he has lost control of his ship. He still thinks of her, and wishes that she would remember him. Punish him, forgive him, being silence will give him more pain. This minute, he can’t just sit there; he wanted to let all the depressing words out of his mouth. He and her were deeply in love, but why she gave up on him? This minute, he can’t just sit there; he wanted to clear it up over the phone, tell him that she was playing him all along, so that she can say she loves him but yet forget him.  Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to the original English version for comparison.

6th Jun 2013 (流浪花 – David Lui/ローリング – Nakajima Miyuki 中島美雪)

The song that I chose for today is “流浪花” by David Lui. This is one of the most popular songs by David, and it is my personal favourite from David. I have completely forgotten about this song until yesterday I heard a section of it from the radio. The direct English translation of the title is “Roving flower”. This song is the Chinese cover version of Nakajima Miyuki’s (中島美雪) ローリング

The lyrics of the song are about love. The lyrics start off telling us that long time ago, the protagonist and his girlfriend often go to this coffee shop. The waiter that always served them said that they are a perfect match. The tea is still taste like in the old days. But now he is sitting by himself, and fallen into his memories. He wishes to fallen in love again, he hate that he keep thinking about her. ‘Please come back’, he said, ‘make my life worthwhile again’. He feels that as if the world doesn’t need him anymore if he can’t have her back. So he wishes that she could come back. The rain is pouring down, but they can’t wash away his love. The tea is getting cold, but he is still in his thought. That waiter asked him where is his girlfriend. He forced himself to smile. He was thinking to act, wishing to lie, but he doesn’t know how to say it out loud. So he just pretended that he didn’t hear it, and drink his cold tea to cover up his sadness. Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to the original Japanese version for comparison.
