The song for today is “傷追人” by Leo Ku, this is a reader request. About this song, there are a number of versions. Firstly, there is Justin Lo English demo version. Justin was the one who wrote the melody, so in his demo, he also filled it in with English lyrics. Jacky Cheung had also covered this song in his concert “活出生命Live演唱會”. Maybe a bit off topic, but in that concert, Jacky sung many songs that were by other singer. Back at the time of the concert, “小城大事” (by Miriam Yeung) was very popular. Many considered Jacky’s version of “小城大事” as the best version of this song, and so some hate was created when Leon Lai sung his version of “小城大事”. Anyway, back to “傷追人”, the title translated as “Injury chases people”. (Note that this song was sung also by many other singers, but I will not talk about all of them here)

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist is breaking up with his girlfriend/wife, but in that process, she bought along her new boyfriend to help her pack things up. The protagonist said: “I could have called 999 (999 is the emergency number in Hong Kong) for help, but sadly you weren’t holding a knife to hurt me. So what am I scared of? For their separation, I got no choice but to get you to stay and discuss, but who would have thought that you forced him to accompany you. It felt like you slapped me. I know, computer, magazines, old letters, photos, passports and a microwave, I own you that much. But asking him for help is so cruel. You tried to make me appreciate how he makes fun of me? The most I can do is to temporally pretend that my body is not mine, numbly accepting your last heavy hit. What to worry about? I denial yelling at my opponent. So injury knows how to chase people, no need for me to hide. Perhaps he is so perfect that you don’t need to show off, but his actions costs my life even after my survival from our breakup, I rather not to see you again. You, made fun of me, yelled at me, dragged me in, blamed me, told me off and questioned me for everything, and it is all over now. All I wanted is to pray for my fate, but you still managed to figure out a new way to injure me. The song that I chose for today is “很想很想說再見” by Justin Lo. This was a song from 2012, but it only published to the public in an album in 2013. The direct English translation of the title is “Really wanted to say good bye”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that he can stand her looking at him with an unhappy face, as long as she is still in front of him. He rather believes the reason that she wanted to argue is that she wanted to hear him say sorry. He guesses that she doesn’t understand their love wither, she probably have no clue why she is still staying behind. He rather to have both of them annoyed then only one person to dream about the other. He doesn’t want her to live without him so he annoyed her. He really wanted to say good bye, he wish that he could say good bye out loud. He can only promise her that in his life he will say it once. He rather to love until it all turn to hate, just like talking, never ended. He rather to believe that they still care about each other, so that’s why they from time to time get annoyed by the other person. He doesn’t want to be so cheap, to extend their love every time they argued. He rather to have both of them annoyed then only one person to dream about the other. He doesn’t want her to live without him so he annoyed her. He really wanted to say good bye, he wish that he could say good bye out loud. The song for today is “我不是好人” by Justin Lo. This is one of the songs from Justin very first album. The meaning of the title is “I am not a good person”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist think that he is not good enough for his other half and he is worry that she will realised that one day. He said, tomorrow morning, when they woke up from the dream, the prince and princess will turn back to a normal couple. They wanted to be together for the rest of their life, but he is worry that one day she will found out that he is not what she thinks he is. He is worry that he is not treating her good enough. He wishes that their honeymoon period wouldn’t fade away as quickly. He had already tried his best, yet he is still not as good as what she expected. He thinks that he is not good enough, and please stops complaining about him. From tomorrow, he will try to give her the best. A normal guy like him, is so worry about what will happen when she found out that he is not good enough. “You are so beautiful”. He knows that they are not at the same level. He tried to find out what he is not good at and try to fix himself up and not worry that he will turn into another person. He will do what she said, but he can’t promise that it will turn out the way she wants. He is worry that he is not treating her good enough. He wishes that their honeymoon period wouldn’t fade away as quickly. He had already tried his best, yet he is still not as good as what she expected. He thinks that he is not good enough, and please stops complaining about him. He understands that someone like her deserves better. A normal guy like himself is already worry about how to be better to improve her life, so please don’t give up on him too quickly. 13th Jan 2014 (Saranghae – Justin Lo)

The song that I chose for today is “Saranghae” by Justin Lo. This is one of my favourite songs, it was out a few years ago when Justin decided to pause his career in Hong Kong and move to China. The title is in Korean (note that the song is in Cantonese), according to internet, it means “I love you” in English.

The lyrics of the song area bout love. The protagonist said that when he sing his song, she doesn’t understand, then it is his fault; but when he sung to that line, only her would understand him. He had never gone crazy like this, the whole day he just thinks about her. This makes him stronger, but yet, he also wanted to cry quietly. Baby Chakeah, she is more important than himself. He felt that he got strength when he is with her. He wanted to clear out the tears marks on her face, and he will provide a simple world for her so that he could hear her laughter. He promises her that he will love her the same way even when they aged. If she left him, he will die, but the history of their love will never die. He will yell “Saranghae” to the sky, to show to the world that no one else could replace her. He will tell others how he loves her until the air is full of love. It makes sense that he can’t calm down, he will hold her and breathe from her. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “頭條新聞” by Justin Lo. I remember I used to listen to this song a lot. The direct English translation of the title is “Head line”.

The lyrics of the song are about our world. It begins with the protagonist saying that perhaps we have got used to be relaxing, but once we have read the head line of the news, how could be sleep again. There are wars, worrying about new viruses, and flood is building up in the Antarctica. So how can we guess the future and how to avoid the bad things? Perhaps all we need to remember is love. So why be nervous and worry? Did you forget how powerful love is? There might be new weapons and the world change fast. Who knows, maybe we will pass away in the next minute. Everyone will be arguing, so how could we be happy? As a human, at some point we might argue with our partner. We might cry and leave behind sins. But there is no need to feel resentment. Have a look at the clock, the second hand swing very fast. So why do you want to was time, you can’t buy it back. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “卡通歌” by Justin Lo. I personally quite like this song, as it uses stories from fairy-tale to describe real life. The direct English translation of the title is “Cartoon song”.

The lyrics of the song are about the love life of the protagonist. At the beginning, it said that from the age of 6, the protagonist that a princess is trap in a forest. Since then he wanted to save her and bring her away from the forest. He said that he doesn’t looks handsome, but in the fairy-tale world there is always luck, and a single kiss could change a frog. Then he realised that all girls wanted was happiness, they wouldn’t want glass slippers. The more girl that he hug, the more times he get hurt. He realised that being passionate to others is wrong. He seems not to be able to distinguish between princesses and witches, by the time he realised it, the beautiful horse coach was already on fire. He realised that his life couldn’t follow the fairy-tale. He said if he can’t fall in love with a queen, then he will fall in love with monster. There is still a castle, just that it is not as big and the wind might blow it away. Then he understood that all girl wants was to be happy, but he had always misinterpreted them. The more girl that he meet, the more times he get hurt. The more naïve he was, the bitterer it was. So he said that if being naïve is not popular, then perhaps he shouldn’t exist in this world. The song that I chose for today is “愛的習慣” by Justin Lo. This is one of the newer songs from Justin but it was still made from around 2-3 years ago. Justin these days are very inactive. He has moved to China as he was sick of Hong Kong’s paparazzi. I think it is rather sad to lose an artist like that, son hopefully he will become active in the Hong Kong market again soon. The direct English translation of the title is “Habit of love”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. In this song the protagonist question how it would be like if he knows that he will break up with his girlfriend before they started. At the beginning, the protagonist said that his girlfriend asked him to forget their relationship, perhaps just treat her as if she is one of his friends. But he said that even if he manage to treat her as a friend from the beginning, they would still end up in the same position as he would fantasize how it would be like to breakup with her. Even though they end up like this, but he just can’t forget or let go of the happy time that they had together. He said even if he know that if he know beforehand that she would be the person that make him very happy and very sad, he wouldn’t try to avoid the breakup by not even starting the relationship because no one will know the future and he would still tried to be with her. The song that I chose for today is “運” by Justin Lo. This is one of my favourite. The direct English translation of the title is “Luck”.

The lyrics of the song discuss what luck is. This song tells us that whether we are lucky or not depends on our view. For example, it mentioned that the protagonist missed his flight, but later that night he saw on the news that the plane was crashed and the pilots were dead. Even if he caught the flight, he would be living on an island by himself for a few years until someone save him. Viewing it like this makes him feel that he is lucky to miss his plane. So what it is trying to say is that lucky or not depends on how we see it. Just remember that there will always be some reward along the way waiting for us. Hope you will like this song.
