The song for today is “熱力節拍 Wou Bom Ba” by Grasshopper, Shirley Kwan, Karen Tong and Winnie Lau. Since I have talked about “打開天空” yesterday, I think I should talk about another famous Marlboro advertising campaign song. “熱力節拍 Wou Bom Ba” was released a few years before “打開天空” and it also become very successful. The direct English translation of the title is “Beats of heat Wou Bom Ba”.

Like “打開天空”, the lyrics are focus on being energetic and try to gives Marlboro a positive image. But this one focus more on youth, which I guess was their way to try to sell into the youth market, who might eventually become their next generation of customer. Because many of the lyrics repeats, I will only translate them the first time when they appeared. It said, Wou Ba Bom Ba Oh Ha Oh Hai. The heat hasn’t back off, and it is so hot that it makes us dance. Let just try our luck and there isn’t a need to reason. No point in just sitting around waiting, just get your friends and try out the trendy things without worries. The world revolve all because of your youth. People from far away are looking at you, all wishes that they are like you. The passion buried in you is prepared. Let’s put yourself into this moment, you will found new interesting things and love this world. Our soul is not limited, so let’s fly with me. The song that I chose for today is “Lonely” by Grasshopper. This is one of Grasshopper’s classic songs. The song came out in 1991 and it was a big hit. This song is the Chinese cover version of a Japanese song called “濡れた髪のLonely” by池田聡.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said “Lonely! Is Lonely the only thing left on Earth? In this sold distance world, it is impossible to chase after that girl again. Didn’t stop lonely, so when I got bored, I got lonely. In my half dreamy state, I woke you up, because without you my life would be meaningless. It is like being trapped behind a thousand walls, bumping into them a thousand or millions times, but every time I was disappointed. No matter early or later, I wishes that you would accept this relationship once more. If there is a chance, please let me know. During the day, I felt lonely; at night, at evening at midnight I feel lonely. Every day, every minute I dream of you, would there be a chance that you could release me from my craziness of you. 19th Jan 2014 (飛躍千個夢 – Grasshopper/Booming! – 苦柿隊)

The song that I chose for today is “飛躍千個夢” by Grasshopper. This song is the Chinese cover of “Booming!” by a Japanese band called “苦柿隊”. The direct English translation of the Chinese title is “Fly over a thousand dreams”.

The lyrics of the song don’t have a deep meaning. As it is one of the earlier songs from Grasshopper, the main purpose of this song is to get people passionate about Grasshopper, so the lyrics are more of a characteristic building song. It starts from saying that we will jump into the sky together and fly in mid-air. Please don’t be that sad bug that hides in the dark corner. When it gets dark, we will travel in laser and roll like a kid. We will be as fast as wind and our spirit would be high as well. We will gather our strength like a robot and in mid-air our heart would be connected. We will fly like grasshoppers and forms a thousand dreams. Looking at the rainbow tonight is already enough to bring them to their dreams. Who was the person that makes their heart beat again. Every cold water flow is enough to make him lost. Leading all these and get everybody to dance. Every night, Grasshopper is dancing in the laser and in your heart. We run in freedom and travel through electricity, ignore west and east. Wish that we could remember Grasshopper could dance in the laser and in our heart. They invite us to hand out our passion and make our dream. So let’s jump into the air and fly in mid-air. The song that I chose for today is “伙頭仔昆布” by Grasshopper. This was the theme song for a cartoon, it bring back so much memories when I listen to this song. The direct English translation of the title is “The cook called Seaweed”.

The lyrics of the song are about a cook call ‘Seaweed’. From the lyrics, it seems that this cook is very good at cooking. All the kids love him. Because his food is so tasty, all the kid becomes fat. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “三分鐘放縱” by Grasshopper. This song is one of the classic by Grasshopper. The direct translation of the title is “Three minute indulgence”.

The lyrics of the song are about releasing pressure. The lyrics still make perfect sense today despite the song was make like 20 years ago. The lyrics basically said that every day we are under pressure from work, we always have to fight our way to make the deadline. These pressures that built up inside us make us feel painful. So it tell us that we should get 3 minute of our time and let everything go, let all of our emotion out, perhaps forget everything in those 3 minutes and just dance like crazy. The song that I chose for today is “Forever” by Grasshopper. Quite different to their usual songs, this one is a rather slow pace song, and it is not a dancing song either.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It is about a pair of couple that they love last forever. It tell us the promises that they make to each other, like they will not leave other if they got poor or sick. Hope you will like the song.

1st Oct 2012 (你讓我找到未來 – Grasshopper)

The song for today is “你讓我找到未來” by Grasshopper. This song is a theme song for a Japanese animation called “高智能方程式” (Japanese name: 新世纪GPXサイバーフォーミュラand English name: Future GPX Cyber Formula), it is a animation that set in the future where people race with cars that got an on-board computer that act as a radar, GPS and tuning device, which can be voice activated. I guess people born in the 80’s and early 90’s in Hong Kong would be quite familiar with this as the animation was a big hit back in the 90’s. The direct English translation of the title of the song is “You let me found the future”.

The lyrics of the song are about hope. The song really just keeps saying two important messages. The first is that whenever we start doing something, there are always challenges ahead of us, but we should believe that success will also be there. The second message is that we should value our friends as they will be helping us when we are in needed. Listening to this song really bring back lot of memory about my childhood, so I hope that you will like this song as much as I do.
