9th Jul 2015 (緣份的天空 (西雅圖的失眠人) – Karen Tong)

The song for today is “緣份的天空 (西雅圖的失眠人)” by Karen Tong. This is one of Karen’s classic. Recently Karen resurfaced and starts singing again. The direct English translation of the title is “Sky of fate (Seattle’s sleepless person)”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “This moment the radio is accompanying me to go into the dark. On the road, through the phone, I heard that your heart is broken through your voice. Slowly you described who you are mourning at night. Long since that day and you still willing to be alone. The lonely heart have fall into this show, like I have spent time with you in the past as if we were a couple. I wish that you could understand that I was like you, couldn’t sleep, feeling so empty. The lonely you are carrying too much. A person after losing their love one could no longer fall into sleep. At a distance place, at the sky of Seattle, is your loneliness and painful heart. Like every drop of tears flow through the sky and got into the light wind. On this side of the cabin, is me feeling hopeless and cold, it is this sadness in the listener heart. Wishing that we could meet somewhere, and carry your tears and dreams. Without my notices, street light disappeared. With my red eyes, I listen to you analysing the  pair of couple from the past. But none of those word make you live in the past, all you know is the thousands of things in the future. The lonely you are carrying too much. A person after losing their love one could no longer fall into sleep.” Hope you will like the song.

28th Jun 2015 (無顏色的夢 – Karen Tong/The Color Of The Night – Lauren Christy)

The song for today is “無顏色的夢” by Karen Tong. This song is the Cantonese cover version of “The Color Of The Night” by Lauren Christy. The direct English translation of the title is “Colourless dream”.

The lyrics of the song are about pain and disappointment. The protagonist said: “Not you, but I know you well. The dream in your heart just flew away. The disappointed you, left for some reason. Hiding tonight and you worry about yourself. If you want to be sad, then just be sad. The most painful and hurtful one is not you. Cut the crying noise, it is not possible for this world to be perfect. Weird twist of fate, but still wanted to be together. Heart is miles away, you saw a colourless sky, I see you every day. Gained then lost again, nothing could prepare. Love, carry for the whole life. You cared so much. Closed your eyes and said that she is beautiful today, just like in the past. If you want to be sad, then just be sad. The most painful and hurtful one is not you. Cut the crying noise, it is not possible for this world to be perfect. Weird twist of fate, but we were together because we had fate. Heart is miles away, everything that you saw, sky with no colour, just like midnight, like dawn. Woo, woo, thinking about the past, woo, woo. Cut your sadness, perhaps this would will be better. Weird twist of fate, but by not avoiding it will bring you surprise. Heart is miles away, you haven’t been well each day. If this world still doesn’t belong to you like in the past, the colourless sky will accompanying you. Keep being sad, as tomorrow you will still be a living dead.” Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to the original for comparison.

13th Oct 2014 (熱力節拍 Wou Bom Ba – Grasshopper, Shirley Kwan, Karen Tong and Winnie Lau)

The song for today is “熱力節拍 Wou Bom Ba” by Grasshopper, Shirley Kwan, Karen Tong and Winnie Lau. Since I have talked about “打開天空” yesterday, I think I should talk about another famous Marlboro advertising campaign song. “熱力節拍 Wou Bom Ba” was released a few years before “打開天空” and it also become very successful. The direct English translation of the title is “Beats of heat Wou Bom Ba”.

Like “打開天空”, the lyrics are focus on being energetic and try to gives Marlboro a positive image. But this one focus more on youth, which I guess was their way to try to sell into the youth market, who might eventually become their next generation of customer. Because many of the lyrics repeats, I will only translate them the first time when they appeared. It said, Wou Ba Bom Ba Oh Ha Oh Hai. The heat hasn’t back off, and it is so hot that it makes us dance. Let just try our luck and there isn’t a need to reason. No point in just sitting around waiting, just get your friends and try out the trendy things without worries. The world revolve all because of your youth. People from far away are looking at you, all wishes that they are like you. The passion buried in you is prepared. Let’s put yourself into this moment, you will found new interesting things and love this world. Our soul is not limited, so let’s fly with me. There is no need to give up yourself as your life is perfect. Everyone play hard in summer, this is me, and there is nothing to worry about. Hope you will like the song.

26th Sep 2014 (我們的近況 – Karen Tong)

The song for today is “我們的近況” by Karen Tong. The direct English translation of the title is “How have we been lately.”

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist’s relationship with her boyfriend. She said that they had a very good relationship. All their friends think that they are a perfect match and they will be together forever soon or later. But it seems to be too early to make the statement. She never thought that they would breakup. This is bad as she doesn’t know how to face her relatives and friends. She doesn’t know how to tell anyone as she felt embarrassed. When someone asked how they have been, she will just tell them that they were busy. The real story, she really doesn’t want to talk about it. There is always someone that asked about their current status. “We are both busy and haven’t seen each other”, people should have understood, please don’t force her to say it. Really, there isn’t any news for their current status. “Busy recently? Or traveling overseas?” People who don’t understand just keep asking why he disappeared. She decided to just be silence on the question and look up to the sky. She will force a smile on her face or pretend that she doesn’t understand what they are talking about. Of cause she got her reason, she have things to hide, but when the words get to the tip of her mouth, those words become so heavy. Hope you will like the song.

2nd Jan 2014 (你我開始很美 – Karen Tong)

The song that I chose for today is “你我開始很美” by Karen Tong. The direct English translation of the title is “It was beautiful when you and I started”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that she still can’t stop thinking of him; his smile, the ways he talks. She feels that he is still in the bathroom, living room and bedroom. Perhaps it was luck that he left without saying a word. That way, both of them don’t have to face the pain or care who is right or wrong. He is tired, so it is time to end this boring story; she is tired as well, so let her rest. She didn’t know how to lie to him for his whole life, she can lie to him for a short time, but she can’t lie to herself. It was beautiful when they started and their purpose wasn’t to breakup. When everything was close to perfect, they started to fade away from each other. It was beautiful at the beginning, she always think about their past and she will never forget. She remember she once share her deepest thought with him in the house. When they separated, both of them were angry; he was hurt and she was hurt, how could they become friends again. The best is that the memories always revolve around him. They are now far away from each other, but she will not pay attention as time passed. Him and her walked together once and this will always stay in their diaries. Hope you will like the song.

12th Sep 2013 (哭泣瑪利 – Karen Tong)

The song that I chose for today is “哭泣瑪利” by Karen Tong. Karen was once quite popular and this song is one of her signature songs. The direct English translation of the title is “Crying Mary”.

The lyrics of the song are about a girl call Mary. It told us that she used to be elegant, but ever since she had been deeply hurt by love, no one cares about her anymore. Many men fall for her but she chose the worse of them all. He treated her very bad and she cried every night. Hope you will like the song.

29th Jan 2013 (絕對是個夢 – Karen Tong/やまねこ – Miyuki Nakajima 中島美雪)

The song that I chose for today is “絕對是個夢” by Karen Tong. Karen at one point was quite popular, but for some reason she seems to disappeared. This song is one of her more famous songs. Note that this is the Chinese cover version of a Japanese song call “やまねこ” by Miyuki Nakajima (中島美雪). The direct English translation of the title of the Chinese version is “Absolutely a dream”.

The lyrics of the song again are about love. The protagonist is thinking about her ex-boyfriend. She feels very painful from the day he left her, so she wishes time could wash away her sadness. Still, she can’t get rid of him from her heart, especially in rainy night when she feel lonely, but she know that he will forever maintain only in her dreams. Hope you will like the song, I have linked both this version and the original version below.

14th Jul 2012 (感冒 – Karen Tong)

Today’s song is “感冒” by Karen Tong. Karen was one quite popular in the late 80’s early 90’s. This song that I post up here today is one of her most famous song. I think the reason why it was so popular was because it was a song written for an ad. The ad was a medicine for cold (something like Panadol). The English translation is “Cold” (cold as in sickness, not the feeling).

The lyrics of the song is about cold (of cause), but it uses cold as an analogy for love. It say that love is like a cold, it could be long or short. Sometime you feel unhappy, but you could be healed by having dinner with your love one (i.e. the medicine). When we get dump, it feel like a cold as well, we need time to heal our pain. Hope you will enjoy this song.

I also found a version that include some dialogue to make it to a story, I have link this below.
