The song for today is “新一天” by Phil Lam and Robynn & Kendy. This song is pretty new, only released earlier last month. The direct English translation of the title is “A new day”.

The lyrics of the song are about a new start. It said, oh, it is like a good weather day when we shop and smile, moving our body forward and backward with the wind. A schedule jammed packed, and the unhappiness from yesterday will disappear soon. The lyrics of the song are about how to accept our true self. The protagonist said, perhaps she didn’t have an eyes catching face. Perhaps her thought is too simple. Perhaps she couldn’t please the whole world, all because she wanted to act as herself. Perhaps she needs to go around a few more time. Perhaps she gets a bit lost. The song for today is “普通朋友” by David Tao (陶喆). David is a very famous Taiwanese singer and this song is one of his famous song. The direct English translation of the title is “Average Friend”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist saying that he doesn’t just want to be her average friend. It said, waiting, he is always waiting, to become the person responsible for her feelings. He has no doubt that this is love. He guessed, she wanted to clear this up a long time age. He felt that he is a loser, falling from haven to the lowest of the lowest, very helpless. He is willing to change (what can I do), start from the beginning again (just give me chance). He couldn’t be just a friend, their relationship is already so deep, how could he let go? But she said “I only wanna be your friend”, be a friend. Him in her heart is just a friend, not a lover. He thanks her for being so truthful, but the love that he gave her he wouldn’t take it back. So he wouldn’t just be her friend “I just can’t be your friend”. No, he can’t just be her friend, can’t be an average friend. Hope you will like the song. The song for today is “月湖” by Robynn & Kendy. This song was released earlier this year, but I only heard it recently. I really like Robynn & Kendy’s songs, especially when they are slow tempo. Their voices are prefect for expressing a song that is fully of emotion. The direct English translation of the title is “Moon lake”.

The lyrics of the song are about growing up. The protagonist said that she is walking slowly on the street. She had heard many stories on the lack side. The stain, park and skywalk are still around, but his hands aged a lot (note that in the lyrics, it said “you” without specifically saying who it is. But from the things that she is says, it seems that the protagonist is referring to her parents or grandparents, but for simplicity here, I will just presume that she is talking about her father). She still hasn’t forget how nervous he was, as he once tried so hard to make her fly higher. He also taught her how to better control herself and observed. Time never treat him bad. They gazed at the star and moon, time and light float away and everything started to blue away. Time flies away with the wind, but the moon on the lake could be blow off and she will always remember. Kids like a lot of things; they always wanted to grow up faster and leave for a place far away. The street had finally changed completely, but he never will change. She hasn’t forgotten how relax he was. He let her go freely and wish that she could fly high. As time goes, more wrinkles shows up on his face. Anyone else could replace her to protect him? They both gaze at the star, she felt unlimited comfort when she is with him. Time stop flying. The moon on the lake have been blow off by the wind but she will still remember it. Time will slow down, please allow her to accompany him. Walking along the lake side feels very beautiful. The light casted on the surface of the lake disappeared, but he is always there. The song for today is “不痛不癢” by Robynn & Kendy. The official English title is “Painless”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist still feel the pain after breaking up. She said that she is starting to get used to the feeling of lonely. She keeps living, from morning to night. It doesn’t matter who left her behind. When someone bring up her past, she would just answer “doesn’t matter” as usual. There isn’t anything that she can’t let go. But why that she feels guilty even she didn’t lie. She thought that she had healed from her wound from yesterday. Even if it didn’t heal, she will pretend to be strong, so strong that she will hide her sexiness. She thought she is so well at pretending to be happy, but why she is worry to return home to face the four walls. So the peacefulness is just an appetizer, who would want to listen to someone else talking about their pain. She wouldn’t be crying as bad as a kid. But she had put love into it, so she doesn’t know how to pretend that it doesn’t hurt. The photos that they took together, perhaps she had torn them in half already. Dinner, entertainment, she play until midnight. She tried her headrest to fill up every second of her day. She is calm, but suddenly the shop played that song. He approached with his dimples, all of a sudden, it is like a knife poke into her heart. She thought that she had healed from her wound from yesterday. Even if it didn’t heal, she will pretend to be strong, so strong that she will hide her sexiness. She will keep herself in a rational state, but worry to return home to face the lonely cold night. So the peacefulness is just an appetizer, who would want to listen to someone else talking about their pain. She wouldn’t be crying as badly, and she will never expose her sadness. But she had put love into it, so she doesn’t know how to pretend that it doesn’t hurt. If she cried badly, who in the world would take care of her. But she is worry that others will know she once lost a war in love. Hope you will like the song.

22nd Feb 2013 (小明星 – Robynn & Kendy/Leslie Cheung)

The song that I chose for today is “小明星” by Robynn & Kendy. The song was originally sung by Leslie Cheung. Robynn & Kendy recently covered this song in their newest album as a tribute to some important figures in Hong Kong music industry who had passed away. There are five of these songs, but today I will focus on this one. The direct English translation of the title is “Little star”. From memory, this song was the theme song for a movie that Leslie starred in.

The lyrics of the song are about star and life. It uses start as an analogy for life. It start off saying that little star, flying with you, you don’t need to give me any legend. Shining star, please give me light, come back and search for the happiness that you missed. Perhaps the little star is dim, but even the most expensive jewellery can’t match with it. Comparing to meteor, perhaps it is brighter, but it doesn’t last. The lyrics are actually quite complex and abstract. I guess what it is trying to say is that perhaps we are small and dim when we compare to others, but there are something in the world that only us could do and we can’t be replaced by others for this role. Hope you will like the song. I have also linked Leslie’s version in case you want to compare them.

The two versions are quite different. Leslie sung this song with more sadness, which I guess suit the movie better. Robynn & Kendy did a great job as well by singing this Leslie’s song with their style. The Robynn & Kendy version are more relaxing and it sounds like it there is hope, so it is more joyful.

28th Dec 2012 (救援 –龍小菌)

The song that I chose for today is “救援” by 龍小菌. 龍小菌 (direct translation is “Dragon little mushroom”) can be consider as the second generation of internet singer in Hong Kong. 龍小菌 is her stage name, no one knows her real name nor how she looks like as wear a mask when she is on stage. I personally quite like her voice, I think she is a good singer. This generation of internet singer usually sing songs that relate to current event happening right next to us. The song that I chose today is about young girls in Hong Kong who wanted to make fast money (some just want to know more people or feel that they are being love) and became prostitute. It is an unhealthy situation and it is needed to stop as many girls regret when they grow up (or regret when they have a baby and they are not mature enough to handle the situation). The direct translation of the title is “assist”, hope you will enjoy the song.

3rd July 2012 (小說伴咖啡 – Robynn & Kendy)

The song that I chose for today is “小說伴咖啡” by Robynn & Kendy. Robynn & Kendy is a new music group in Hong Kong, it is make up by two girls called Robynn & Kendy. They started their career on YouTube. At first they posted songs on YouTube and I guess for their unique voice they got very popular, the viewed number keeps increasing. Early this year, Universal Music (Hong Kong) approached them, and so they have jointed Universal Music and produced their first album. Robynn & Kendy are not the first singer that developed their career from YouTube, from memory, the first singer from Hong Kong that started off from YouTube and end up producing an album was Kellyjackie. However, Robynn & Kendy are really the first singers in Hong Kong, started off from YouTube that sign a contract with a big music company. You can still found the videos that they uploaded before they joint Universal on YouTube, beside, they still post video on YouTube. I guess Universal understand that Robynn & Kendy are quite different from their other singer, and since they started off from the internet, I guess they wanted Robynn & Kendy to maintain those audience.

Anyways, back to the song. The direct English translation of the title is “Novel accompanied with coffee”. The lyrics are about a relaxing afternoon. Throughout the song, it describes the protagonist just wanted to have a lazy holiday. She just wanted to pick the novel that she love and enjoy it with the coffee that she likes. This song in a way bring out the message that happiness could be very simple. Although I personally don’t like this song too much as I think it is a bit dull, but I do like the way Robynn and Kendy sing this song. The song sound very fresh and their style is quite distant. Besides that, their voice is very good. Though their songs sound very similar, so I really hope that they can provide a larger variety of songs, otherwise I think they will not last too long before people forgot about them. I hope you will like Robynn & Kendy as well.
