The song for today is “另一半” by Daniel Chan. From memory this song was popular back in 90’s. The direct English translation of the title is “Other half”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that his girlfriend is the only person that made him realised that hugging for half a second could proof love exist. And she is not worry about test, the fireworks that lasted for half a day, he thinks of that at night. Forget about the world, there is only these board shoulder left, and they could still hug her by treating good bye as a test. Can be divided, but why can’t she wait, how much time is left? He could still get half the pillow, even if he has to wait for half of his life. Why can’t he hold onto her? The sky that existed for the other half, is enough to kiss for the rest of his life. Searched through the other side of the world; only think of her for half of his life is call missed. Who would want to see the prettiest face? Kissing her half cigarette, he could still understand lingering. These are enough for him to think of for the rest of his life. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “擦身情緣” by Alex To. This song was popular back in 1990 when it first released. The direct English translation of the title is “Relationship that just passed by closely”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that his girlfriend said she felt it is a bit cold. When he turns around slowly, she hugged him tightly. He felt that he is floating in the sky, the warm feeling is flowing through him. He felt that they were connected through their eye contact, and at that moment a series of frame flash up in his mind. It is hard to control when we meet or depart in this world, but who would have thought that the two of them would meet up. He thought of the time when they first meet in the car, it was so fast that he was worry that he would go empty handed. He thought of all the differences that they have, but they are able to connect tonight. Slow wind and foggy sky, accompanying him to listen to her heart beat. So in this long journey of life, he could found her deep love. She asked him to believe again, his heart beats increases and can be heard clearly. It felt like that as if her tender words reduce the contradictions of the world. Hope you will like the song.

17th Aug 2014 (彎彎的月亮 (Cantonese)/(Mandarin) – David Lui)

The song that I chose for today is “彎彎的月亮” by David Lui. This song was one of David’s classic. The English translation of the title is “Crescent Moon” (or directly “Curly moon”). This song got both Mandarin and Cantonese version, both version share the same name. Here today, I will only focus on the Cantonese version.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist thinking about the past. The lyrics are very poem like, so it is a bit hard to translate, hopefully my translation could still retain most of the meaning and feeling. It said, “soft as snow, from the galaxy slowly go through the window’s yarn. Socking through the slow wind, that the smell of osmanthus. In the arms far away, like floating to home. Memories that are soft and silky, passed through time. Wooo, dizzy as drunk, pushed open the window of the heart. Within the wind of fresh air, is the scenery of home. Feeling melancholic, but still gaze at this place that isn’t home. Who was that person that told me with love that I should not blame the sky for all the bad things. Wooo, thinking about home, it still feels warm, there aren’t autumn& winter and cold night. I think of home, and it doesn’t change, still gazing at home even in dream. Ohhh, in the dream the night last long. Thinking of home, it still looks cute, there aren’t sadness and melancholic. The song that I chose for today is “我很醜, 可是我很溫柔” by Chief Chao (趙傳). This is another Chief’s iconic song. The direct English translation of the title is “I am ugly, but I am tender”.

The lyrics of the song are about life of the protagonist, he is not happy that he is not getting what he wanted, but he tried to tell himself that what he got is enough. The protagonist said “every night in my dream I am a giant. Every morning, in front of the mirror, I realised that I live on the edge of the razor blade. In the forest built from concrete; in a life that being ordered by people, calculating the distance between dreams and reality. I am ugly, but I am tender. I look cool, but inside I am hot. The song for today is “初戀” by Danny Chan. Danny was very popular back in the 80’s, though he passed away in the early 90’s (his death still remains as a mystery). Back to the song, there are two versions to this song, one in Cantonese, the other in English. The direct English translation of the title is “First love”, which is the same as the English version, as they both revolve around the same topic for the lyrics.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist opened his eyes and saw that there is noting that could compare to that day. Seeing her every day, too happy. He is willing to capture every day. The rain in spring is soft, at that side of the road, let the rain splash. The rain drop on his heart, making it sweet, just likes the arrow from Cupid. Let the relationship grow naturally, as love will never end. Just finished the old dream, and there would be new reams for you to complete. But regardless, you will always miss first love. Thinking about yesterday, you realised you have been through so many happy moment. You are annoyed that love always changes often, a sadness hiding behind happiness. There is nothing they could talk about now, if there is traffic, then they must be able to keep talking non-stop. If the two hearts couldn’t be connected, then seeing each other is just the same as not seeing. Just let the relationship grow naturally, as love will never end. The song that I chose for today is “仍然是最愛你” by Cass Phang. This song was quite popular back at the time when it was released as it was a theme song for a TV drama. The direct English translation of the title is “Still love you the most”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The past has past, but the memories will always remain. Who would remember how they spent their life? Who is willing to spent their life with her forever? She bumped into him, and fallen in love with him. It was all so beautiful. Who doesn’t look forward? Fame and glory couldn’t compare to having him on her side. It is hard to escape fate when they need to be separated. They are still waiting to be able to get together again. She still loves him the most. Even if it get rough in the future, she is willing to share happiness and sadness with him. From what time, you will starting falling with that person? How could you live until you get happiness? When all the dreams are gone, she will still understand him. She bumped into him, and fallen in love with him. It was all so beautiful. Who doesn’t look forward? She hopes that even in the future, he will remain on her side. She doesn’t want to be hug by anyone else, as she still cares about him. She knows that one day she will lost all her hope, but she believe that these are trainings for her to prepare for their love that will last for ten centuries. Hope you will like the song.

13th Aug 2014 (在這世界看不夠 – Sammy Leung)

The song that I chose for today is “在這世界看不夠” by Sammy Leung. Sammy is one of my favourite radio hosts. He had sung a few songs over the years for his shows. This one that I chose for today is a Christian song that he sung a few years ago. Although typically I don’t like Christian songs as they are usually out of tone and they are far too hard sell on God’s love, but this one, I found it ok. The direct English translation of the title is “Haven’t seen enough in this world”.

The lyrics of the song are about life, how we shouldn’t give up. It said happiness is always a delusion, and we never know which one is our sun. If being ordinary is normal, then why have I got all the awards (in the lyrics, it seems the ward “award” here is use in a sarcastic way, hence indicating that the protagonist got all the bad things happened in his life)? Bad luck is like the snow in a cold night, infinitely extending the darkness. But he is glad that when he was at the dead end, he meets God. He hasn’t seen enough in this world, as he still hasn’t seen the universe. Not fulfilled, not letting go, as no one wish to lost their freedom. If he manages to win this fight, he promises that he will love to the end. Breaking this curse and he will be reborn, and wish to become a teammate. Even he always bumps into snow, and wanting his journey to be longer. Be accompanied would make him stronger, so he think of God every day. HE tried to chase his dream again, even if he managed to get what he wanted, when he got lost, he wishes that God could guide him. He hasn’t seen enough of this world, as it still isn’t the end of the story. Please don’t leave, don’t leave, he uses all his strength to pray. If he manages to win this fight, he promises that he will love to the end. He will hold this pair of hand, and all he need for his happy life is to have God accompanying him. Holding God’s hand, he knows he could create his life.

Although my translation sounds quite hard sell as there are many “God” in the lyrics, but in the actual lyrics, it uses “祢”, which pronounce the same as “你” (meaning “you”). That word is a special word used to refer to God, I am not a Christian, so I am not quite sure what word I could use in place of “祢”other than “God” (I guess the bible uses “He”, but I am not sure). Anyway, hope you will enjoy the song.
