7th May 2016 (暴風女神 Lorelei – Alan Tam / 星のシルエット – 芹沢広明)

The song for today is “暴風女神 Lorelei” by Alan Tam. This song was a movie theme song. Also it was originally a Japanese song. According to the internet, the original song is “星のシルエット” by 芹沢広明 (though the two songs sound quite different to me, perhaps due to the different arrangement). The direct English translation of the title is “Goddess of Storm Lorelei”.

The lyrics of the song are about wind. The protagonist said: “Fierce wind, strong wind, angry like a dragon. Huge wave hitting and moving randomly, thunder and lightning used their strength to cut through this world, shaken the sky. Fiercely running in the rain, eyesight gets burry. Fiercely yelling Lorelei sweet Lorelei. The mysterious Lorelei, living in the centre of the wind. Living just to enjoy destruction, then disappeared. Once in the darkness that couldn’t be lighten, the love fire that couldn’t extinguished, she hugged me in the strong wind. Oh oh oh oh, at this moment, there is only wind around me. Stationary in the memory that couldn’t wipe clean, the loneliness that couldn’t be broken, I am alone in the strong wind. Falling over and over and noticed that she is in the wind, Lorelei”. I have also linked to the original Japanese version. Hope you will enjoy the songs.

14th Jul 2015 (酒紅色的心 – Alan Tam/ワインレッドの心 – Anzen Chitai (安全地帶))

The song for today is “酒紅色的心” by Alan Tam. The reason I chose this song for today is because I was going to write a reader request on Ken Choi’s “月蝕” (which I will talk about probably tomorrow). But after listening to the song for the first time, I realised that it uses the same melody as Alan’s “酒紅色的心”. Both of these songs are Cantonese cover version of the Japanese song “ワインレッドの心” by Anzen Chitai (安全地帶) (you might also found this Japanese song under Koji Tamaki (玉置浩二) as he was the lead singer of Anzen Chitai and many of the songs by the band were written by him as well. On top of that, he also had his solo music career which was also successful. So many Anzen Chitai’s songs are sometime classified directly under his name rather than the band name). Since Alan’s version was the one that I heard of first, so I think I should talk about it first. As far as I know, the Japanese title of the song is the same as Alan’s version’s title. The direct English translation of the title “Wine red coloured heart”.

The lyrics of the song use red wine as a metaphor for the woman that the protagonist interested in. He said: “A pair of eyes; the attractive of love. Tasty wine; leaking charm. The bright eyesight is a message, naturally kisses your cheek and forehead, quietly waiting for the fire to relight. Too beautiful, hugging in the dream, this sense of love is surrounding us. Red, red, red; a heart that is so clear just like wine colour. Who eve is loved by you, means the start of happiness, so getting excited is normal. Red wine, red wine, red wine; such a fresh crystal. Leaking true love for whom? A bit embarrassed; the magic of love. The wine rushed into the heart and become a motivation. The love fire has been relit and so should be treasured. How to describe your tenderness, like you have no strength, creating a lot of attraction. Inside is weak and soft, but the outside is tough, I know that the love sense is reigniting. Red, red, red; a heart that is so clear just like wine colour. Who eve is loved by you, means the start of happiness, so happy that they will forget pain. Red wine, red wine, red wine; cheer another glass will better engrave the memories. Leaking true love for whom?” I have also linked the original Japanese below, hope you will enjoy the song.

7th Jun 2015 (編織 – Alan Tam)

The song for today is “編織” by Alan Tam. The direct English translation of the title is “Weave”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist yearning about his ex-girlfriend. It said, he is busy about weaving past memories. Weaving, form stories. They float in the heart, will forever in the heart, bring out the happiness and sadness. Yearning about her, wishing that he could rub away these tears for her. Yearning about the past, opening the memories, all because he is yearning of her. He remembered the her from the past, he haven’t forget any moments. This moment they are not together, he silently cry in his heart. Fine, he will face it. Fine, he will face it. Forever heart broken. Busy weaving the old memories. Weaving, the her that he lost.” Hope you will like the song.

21st Feb 2015 (恭喜發財 – Alan Tam)

The song for today is “恭喜發財” by Alan Tam. Continuing that Chinese New Year theme from the last two days, this is another Chinese New Year song. This one is not too popular now as it doesn’t sound too much like one of those typical New Year songs. It was released in 1985 and it was a theme song for a movie with the same name. The title of the song is a phase that many people said during Chinese New Year, which is “Wish you wealthy”.

The lyrics of the song are pretty much just full of wishes just like many other Chinese New Year songs. The protagonist said, wish you wealthy, wish you wealthy, so wealthy that you will be full of joy. Wish you wealthy, wish you wealthy, if you believe you will definitely make a profit. Congrats, I said congrats, this year will be so happy that you will be full of joy. Grandpa will be able to hug his grandkids and full of luck; wishing his descendants to get together and enough to fill the ground (this is an old Chinese idea that it is good/luck to have many kids). Mister will rises and housewife will make a few more dishes every meal. Everyone in the family will get together, being happy and celebrate. I wish that every lady to be beautiful and attractive, wishing every business to be able to remain their capital and will make a profit. Kids will grow fast and will work hard, every subject will get ‘A’ grad. Wish you wealthy, wish you wealthy. Congrats, I said congrats, those that are single will have a good partner this year. Couples will be peaceful and will have kids. The kid will be fat (another old Chinese idea, as fat people tends to be wealthy and so doesn’t need to worry about his future) and cute, every day he will smile. Being happy will bring you joy, Having good health and stay strong and happy will make you stop feeling down. I wish that you will remember happiness so that it will be fun through your life. Keep trying and eventually you will success. Keep loving the beauty of Hong Kong, I will forever love this happy land. I wish that you will remember happiness so that it will be fun through your life. Keep trying and eventually you will success. Keep loving the beauty of Hong Kong, I will forever love it, I will forever love this happy land. Hope you will like the song.

3rd Oct 2014 (傲骨 – Alan Tam)

The song for today is “傲骨” by Alan Tam. This song was requested by a reader. The title is a bit hard to translate, the closest translation to English is “Proud”.

The lyrics of the song are about not giving up. The protagonist said who would know how bitter and dull he feels in his heart as nothing plays out the way he wanted. Who would know how bitter and dull he feels in his heart because he feels tired. But at the bottom line, this fight hasn’t finish, and they are trying to force him to change. Who would know how strong his wills is in his heart. From now on, there will be many challenges, and they might make him lost on his way. From now on, there will be many challenges, and might break his sharp knife many times. But at the bottom line, he knew very clearly that he don’t want to change his mind just that it might seems to be easier the other way. Sometime he wanted to give in, thought this thought sadden him and he knows that he wouldn’t give in. Repeat this roar, and believe that one day his believe would be able to suppress the pressure on him. He wouldn’t kneel down before plight, dislike and dislike.

I guess this is a good song to dedicated to the protesters in Hong Kong to show support for their action. Although I am not there to actually do anything to support, but like the idea in the song, I do believe that one day the goal will be achieved. Hope you will enjoy the song.

15th July 2014 (幻影 – Alan Tam)

The song for today is “幻影” by Alan Tam. I can’t believe I haven’t talked about this song after running this blog for so long. This is one of my favourite, and it always come up in my head. This is one of Alan’s classic and it was also a theme song for a movie back in the 80’s. The direct English translation of the title is “Phantom”.

The lyrics of the song are about a love story between a man and a ghost. At the start of the song, the protagonist doesn’t know how to describe this relationship, but he wanted to write a poem about her. He is speaking nonsense and thinking so hard, but still hasn’t thought of the perfect words that could describe her. If he could touch the image in the mirror, then at least he might have been able to it. That little purple box, it contains many unfinished things. The bright and clear, represent love. It secretly shining, making it very eyes catching. This love is like an illusion, it will disappeared one day. But that phantom is reappearing in his heart again. How did he start to get contact with this love, it feels like that he knows it would be hard. In his dreams and memories, he is searching for her. She is creating love ripple in his heart. But she didn’t stay for him to catch or get a hold of her. This illusion like love is staying in his heart; giving him warm at every cold night. This illusion like love is staying in his heart, allowing him to hug her every night. Hope you will like the song as much as I do.

The song that I chose for today is “愛到你發狂” by Alan Tam. This is Alan’s classic, it was from his second album which was published in 1980. This song is the Cantonese cover of “My Sharona” by The Knack. The direct English translation of the title is “Loving you make me crazy”.

The lyrics of the song are very simple. All the lyrics only consist of 9 words and keep repeating these nine words. The lyrics are basically “Loving you have make me crazy; I love you I love you I Love you; My Sharona” and it just repeats. These lyrics are great as it directly tell us what it is about. Every night, and the morning when the cloud passes by, it’s my luck to have you with me. Every night and morning, I would still remember this love. 6th Oct 2013 (痴心的廢墟 – Alan Tam)

The song that I chose for today is “痴心的廢墟” by Alan Tam. I heard this song on TV tonight for the first time and I absolutely love it. It was a theme song of a TV drama back in the 80’s. The direct English translation of the title is “’ruin of infatuation”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It asks who have left behind some sad words, who had left behind some sad tears and who are still thinking about the past at night and still try to chase the past, to cry for love. Love, it is full of naïve words. Love it is a mix of sadness and happiness. Love, always got blow away. The sound of wind had blown my love away and pushes me back. Who is controlling which person got to stay and which have to go? Love is like debris that got blow by the wind. Love, let it stay in your heart freely. Love, it is deep, but let blow away by the wind. Every time when it got deep, it got blow away, who can I ask for why this is happening. Who is in the ruin of infatuation? Hope you will like the song.

Please lift your head and forget about the past, there is no need to be neither me nor you. Love is something that we can give but not get and you can love forever. I truly don’t want you to leave.
