26th Nov 2016 (今天我 – Jan Lam)

The song for today is “今天我” by Jan Lam. Jan is part of Soft Hard, but he had been working solo for a long time. The direct English translation of the title is “Today me”.

The lyrics of this song actually draws from many songs, these included “海闊天空”, “抗戰二十年”, “年少無知”, “光輝歲月”(I am surprise that I haven't wrote a post on this song yet as it is one of Beyond's signature songs. So this will be tomorrow's song :D ) and “無盡”. Apart from the last song, the rest were either sung or melody was written by members of Beyond. These songs are all about growing up. This song by Jan basically draw lyrics from these songs and connected them to form a new song that have a similar theme. Note that the phase “today me (今天我)” is the first lyrics of “海闊天空” and it is a very signature of the song, most people will instantly recognise the song just by these 3 (Chinese) words. The protagonist said: “Today Me, is singing today me. Tomorrow me, once again singing today me. Who haven’t given up the dreams in their heart. Then you and I have fought for twenty years. I started this endless journey, growing up in the glory days, hugging Ka Kui (the leader, the key vocal singer and the main song writer of Beyond. He is still a legend and remained in many people’s heart despite he had passed away over 20 years ago). I only know that live is a lead down, only knows that life is endless compromises. Oh no, oh no, oh no. Believe, believe, believe. How nice to be young, holding to my freedom in the storm. Dreams, who could have achieved. Today me. I have already started this endless journey, grew up in this glory days, keeping my dreams as wide as the sea and sky. Woo. I only know that live is a lead down, only knows that life is endless compromises. Oh no, oh no, oh no. Endless resistance, resisting to countdown. Believe, believe, believe. Continuing the beautiful living environment. How nice to be young, holding to my freedom in the storm. Dreams, who could have achieved. Today me. Oh no. Come and keep this living style. But who could keep it going all the way until they die. Staying on the road, oh no, oh no, oh no. Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah. Believe, believe, believe. Woo. How nice to be young, holding to my freedom in the storm. Dreams, who could have achieved. Today me. Today me. Today me. Opening my eyes. Today me, I am still singing today me. Tomorrow me, oh no.” I usually don’t like Jan’s song too much, but I found this one quite touching and I like the melody. So hope you will like it as much as I do.

21st Nov 2016 (小故事 – JW)

The song for today is “小故事” by JW. This is JW’s latest song. The direct English translation of the title is “Little story”.

The lyrics of the song are about not giving up of your dream. The protagonist said: “I know, I know, there is a limit on life, so I unlimitedly enlarged my dream, I shouldn’t just take it as it is easy. Believe, keep going, then I can complete my little story. I am not perfect, but I can. So stupid that even the sky fall to remind me that I am so naïve. Understand, every time I looked back at my experience, I still don’t care. Perhaps the good thing didn’t arrive this time, then next time, if it can be achieved, then it is never too late. It is not late if I can achieve my dream. Always said that when the sky become the darkest, then a new story will be borne. Doesn’t feel good, but I can withhold. Try it one more time, wishing that he miracle is hidden somewhere. Keep and keep trying, like a lost kid. I know, I know, there is a limit on life, so I unlimitedly enlarged my dream, I shouldn’t just take it as it is easy. Believe, keep going, then I can achieve my first time. I am not confident, living without a purpose. I am not perfect, but I can”. Hope you will like the song.

20th Nov 2016 (想妳的舊名字 – Hacken Lee/メロディー – Koji Tamaki 玉置浩二)

The song for today is “想妳的舊名字” by Hacken Lee. This song is the Cantonese cover version of Koji Tamaki’s メロディー. Hacken actually wrote the lyrics of his version himself (using a stage name). The direct English translation of the title is “Thinking of your old name”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, it is about the protagonist thinking of his ex-girlfriend, but knowing that they will probably not be able to be together again. He said: “Accompanying me ok? Just for a second ok? Regardless whether he is in your heart. Trick me ok? Could you just pretend? I only wish that you could once again talk to me softly. Happy? Enjoying work? But in my heart, I still care. Do you know I always think of your old name? Difficult to be together now, but I still wish that we could be together next life. Melody, I don’t want you to stop. The light wind added some sense of autumn. The moon added lovesickness. I still wish that we could be in love once again. Still need to go? Could you delay that? Do you know that you have already given him half of your life. Avoiding me? With everything? I only need to see you, whether it is sunny or rainy I wouldn’t be scared. Happy? Happy to be with him? But in my heart, I still care. Do you know I always think of your old name? Difficult to be together now, but I still wish that we could be together next life. Melody, I don’t want you to stop. The light wind added some sense of autumn. The moon added lovesickness. I still wish that we could be in love once again.” Hope you will like the song. 18th Nov 2016 (痴心換情深 – Vivian Chow)

The song for today is “痴心換情深” by Vivian Chow. This is a reader request. It is one of Vivian’s classics. The direct English translation of the title is “Infatuation in exchange for deep love”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “In this world perhaps there is someone else that could get me to love freely without burdens. The unpredictive love that I have toward you, why need to be serious. Passionate love makes it harder to sleep. How would I have known that loving you is like burning myself. But I still get closer to you willingly.  Perhaps infatuation could exchange for deep love; hopeless, but I am wishing god will pity me. As the fate become the past, you no longer asked, never treasure the current moment, always just gazed at me when I cry. All because you got used to seeing me cry, so my tears no longer shock you, seeing it doesn’t bring you sadness. How to be like in the movie, in love for live. You said it but pretend that it never happened. Our thought could never go back, love through the painful life. My heart is full of tears stains.” Hope you will like the song.

14th Nov 2016 (這麼近(那麼遠) – Jacky Cheung)

The song for today is “這麼近(那麼遠)” by Jacky Cheung. This is a reader request. This is a very beautiful song, one that I used to listen a lot. The direct English translation of the title is “So close (yet so far)”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist feeling that him and his partner is physically so close together but their heart is so far away. He said: “Day by day, day and night, we face to face, together and sleep together. Bit by bit, slowly and slowly, I realised that even we face each other, but we got nothing to say. Quietly gazing at that familiar back side, when you band your body, I realised that you are so distanced from me. Like at the edge of the world, couldn’t even walk an inch closer. I, managed to keep you on my side, but our hearts are so distanced. Perhaps there is one day, you standing right in front of me, but I couldn’t realise who face it is. I, managed to keep you on my side, but our hearts are so distanced. I wanted to extend my arms to drag it closer, but I couldn’t reach that side. Just a little bit more, but this little bit, is so far away. Can touch, but couldn’t understand. So close, yet so far, still. Living together, but without sound; me and you, have changed, already speechless. Quietly gazing at that familiar back side, what you are thinking is so distance from me. Like at the edge of the world, couldn’t even walk an inch closer.” The lyrics of this song is so simple, yet so strong and paint a very good picture. Hope you will enjoy listening to this song.

13th Nov 2016 (尋找消失的過去 – Kimman Wong (黃劍文))

The song for today is “尋找消失的過去” by Kimman Wong. This is a reader request. Thanks for requesting this song, I really like it. This song is one of the theme song from ViuTV’s drama. The direct English translation of the title is “Searching for the disappeared past”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “Perhaps at the beginning, we were too rushed together, so soul mates haven’t fully understood each other. Or is it that your heart is half alive, half dead? Separate to love to see who will be more jealous. Being able to be together, because we were simple, as we both scare to be alone. The departing reason was trivial, all because we loved too aggressively. We both are searching for the disappeared past. We can only repeat to be together until we are tired. After we have fallen in love, before we are lost, we were not enemy. No need to have others and the love will be disappeared. If you are trying to search for evident all because you couldn’t stay, no need to be humble, as he is not the only one that wanted to push in. Don’t need to be because you need to choose someone, so you go against your heart. Don’t believe that new life will remove the past. Relationship is still there, not because we are still a match, only because we are happy together. The reason of getting tired of it is trivial, all because I like to argue more than he does. If you are willing to cry for me, why not face it again. Without real love, we are not lovers. Let’s treat it as pique, accompanying me hold the pain to keep going.” Hope you will like the song.

12th Nov 2016 (生命有價 – Linda Wong

The song for today is “生命有價” by Linda Wong (王馨平). This is a very old song, one from my childhood. It suddenly popped up in my head the other day. I never really pay attention to the lyrics, but after singing it a few times that day, I found the lyrics are very meaningful, so I thought I will share it here. The English translation of the title is “Life have a value”.

The lyrics of the song are about life and how we should be positive. It said: “Quickly, through away the sad eyes, the sad face and the sad emotions. Find back your smiling face and sing along can you? La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la. Clap together as life have value. From the time when we make the wa-wa-wa noise, we opened our eyes and saw the world. From the time when we have learned to hold mum’s warm hands. To the time when we non-stop make the e-e-wa-wa noise, from crawling to the time when we know how to run. From the time we put on our school bag to absorb the knowledge and worry about nothing. From the time you and her started to hold hands, to the time when you have been through happiness, sadness and pain. Being alive is so amazing, how could we see it through. Wish that sometime there would be some accident in life. When that come, don’t be afraid or be lost, just remembered that it have unlimited colours and unlimited love. Wish that you can use your self-esteem to get over the hurdle.” Hope you will like the song.
