27th Dec 2015 (尾班車 – Faye Wong/いつわりの日々 – 浜田省吾)

The song for today is “尾班車” by Faye Wong. This song is the Cantonese cover version of a Japanese song “いつわりの日々” by 浜田省吾. The direct English translation of Faye’s version’s title is “Last bus”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “The warm time, had already disappeared like dust. Broken rain, fragment of light shadow, bring more pain to my heart. In the past you said that you will love me for life. You said that you are too lazy to find another again. You said that you were born because of me. Tonight I see through your heart, you used to fall in love with other. In love with other, forget other, then pretend nothing happened. Goodbye darling, goodbye my love. Sitting in the last bus. Don’t need to be surprise when I say goodbye to you, say goodbye to this love. Goodbye darling, goodbye my love. Sitting in the last bus. Before sunrise, all these unfortunate, let the darkness cove it up, never love again. Goodbye to the past, goodbye to your voice. Long gone with the wind. Walking alone with pain, walking in the rain. The tears outside the door could no longer be hold.” I have linked to the original Japanese version as usual. Hope you will enjoy the songs.

11th Dec 2015 (長大 - Faye Wong)

The song for today is "長大" by Faye Wong. The direct English translation of the title is "Grow up".

The lyrics of the song are about growing up. The protagonist said: "Thinking about yesterday, when I was still young. Looked into the wind, smile naively. Sky forever changing, so amazing. But I was too naive, could care less. Youth, quitely float away. Rushing on the road, no longer knowing how to smile. Like a balloon floating in the wind. Who could predict. Sigh, is this necessary. You said that this is call growing up, I said it is hard to understand. I love to see how big this would is, but sadly this world changes too quickly. When I got tired, couldn't run anymore. I cry quitely, wanting to have all of those that I had. Touched by the thought of change, guessed that the only thing that will not change are the stars in the sky. Everytime when I felt down, I said that it is sad. I love the world from yesterday, it was rough, but beautiful." Hope you will like the song.

29th July 2014 (給自己的情書/笑忘書 – Faye Wong)

The song for today is “給自己的情書” by Faye Wong. Yesterday I talked about “笑忘書” by Hins, and I mentioned that Faye also got a song with the same name. Faye’s “笑忘書” is actually the mandarin version of “給自己的情書”, so instead of talking about Faye’s “笑忘書”, I decided to talk about “給自己的情書”. The direct English translation of the title is “Love letter to myself”. This song was from year 2000, and it was one of the songs that they sent to radio and TV stations for promotion of the album.

The lyrics of the song are about valuing yourself. It said: please don’t be disappointed, as there would be someone that is jealous about you. You hoped for too much, so you lowered yourself. Please don’t get lost too early on, as there are many places to travel to. Please remember that your hair and skin will always celebrate with you. Lalala, comforting yourself, focus to memorise the happy things. Lalala, love yourself, is the truth that you could easily picked up from the ground. Writing this elegant love letter, using my own words to write this golden book. If you don’t even love yourself, how could you love others, how could you gives to your love one? This heavy love letter, is like a big strong tree at the front door on a quiet night. Without his support, then rain wouldn’t get onto you. Please don’t be sad, I will treat you as my idol. If you want other to pity love to you, please install a first aid box. No matter what you do, please don’t think about how other will praise you. You need to be strong all the way, then think about for others. Let go of the toys in your hands, then you would know how to have a good sleep. After climbing over the high cliff, and going through the mire, you found this line that you don’t wanted to believe. I needed to write this elegant love letter, using my own words to write this golden book. If you don’t even love yourself, how could you love others, how could you gives to your love one? With this heavy love letter, is like a big strong tree at the front door on a quiet night. Without his support, then rain wouldn’t get onto you.

I hope you will enjoy the song. Just for your reference, I have also linked to the Mandarin version of the song (i.e. “笑忘書”).

8th May 2014 (流星 – Faye Wong)

The song for today is “流星” by Faye Wong. I have completely forgotten about this song until I heard it again yesterday. It was quite popular in the 90’s. The direct English translation of the title is “Meteor”.

The lyrics of the song are about the relationship of the protagonist with her boyfriend. She said she is at the edge of the sea and he is at the edge of the sky. Two stars that meant to exist at the same time. They correspond to each other, but never get close to each other, just like she and him, quietly corresponding to the other. She wonders whether this is called lingering or destroying. It has been too long, she can’t take it anymore, she wanted to escape from his tender universe. Become a meteor, no matter which direct she fly, there will always be a shining memories behind her. She is a meteor, she got a dream, to leave him, and her beauty will disappear. Between them, there doesn’t seem to be anything but a crying galaxy. He is Niu Lang, but she doesn’t want to be Zhi Nu, she doesn’t want to continue the sad poem (note that Niu Lang and Zhi Nu are from a Chinese mythology. They are a pair of couple that got separated and only allowed to see each other once a year. I managed to found an English version of the story, click here if you are interested). She doesn’t want it to go on like this, she doesn’t want them to destroy themselves. It has been too long, she can’t stand it any longer. She wanted to go back to their peaceful time. Become a meteor, no matter which direct she fly, there will always be a shining memories behind her. She is a meteor, she got a dream, to leave him, and her beauty. Become a meteor, no matter which direct she fly, their memories will always be behind her. Unlimited meteors, she only got one wish, which is to find her own beautiful story. Hope you will like the song.

15th Apr 2014 (郵差/蝴蝶 – Faye Wong)

The song that I chose for today is “郵差” by Faye Wong. This was a song from 1999. The direct English translation of the title is “Postman”. Note that this is the Cantonese version, the Mandarin version is call “蝴蝶” (meaning “Butterfly”.)

The lyrics of the song are about love. It starts by saying that snow are floating down, and they are falling down to the deep sea. Until the two legs can’t move, then she thought about leaving. Until he says he will not coming back and she say she deserves it. Taking off this love burden, perhaps she will start to believe in love. He is a thousand piles of snow, and she is the long street. Worry that when the sun rises, they will demolish. Seeing that the butterfly can’t fly across the sky, who got the right to not understand? He is a letter and she is the postman. At the end her legs are full of dust. She is too busy to transport the letter and got no time to open up the letter to look at the perfect world inside. Recognised the wrong hotel sign, recognised the wrong street that she wanted to walk. Just pretend that she wanted to keep it when it gets cold, so how could she just leave it in an unknown location. There are no cords between them, but there is a hidden ending. Autumn foliage will fly away, at the end they could only say good bye. He is a thousand piles of snow, and she is the long street. Worry that when the sun rises, they will demolish. Seeing that the butterfly can’t fly across the sky, they can only blame that time fly by fast. He is a letter and she is the postman. At the end her legs are full of dust. She is too busy to transport the letter and got no time to open up the letter to look at the perfect world inside. Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to the Mandarin version “蝴蝶” for comparison.

1st Feb 2014 (重燃 – Faye Wong)

The song that I chose for today is “重燃” by Faye Wong. The direct English translation of the title is “Reignite”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that her heart hides into a quiet book shop, but she meets him with the feeling from yesterday. They looked at each other talking about the future. They both laugh to avoid thinking about their past. The familiar and calm voice, still friendly regardless of time. Her heart, still running toward him. Why their dull faces felt to be reignited that moment. Her heart still got feeling toward him, no matter how her eyes tried to hide, it still lack something to make it feel normal. Her heart now stopped trying to hide as he understands her. Movement and fakes, after being in a relationship, they could be found again. She felt lost before, but from today onward, she felt the feeling of love have been reignited. Hope you will like the song.

3rd Jan 2014 (容易受傷的女人 (Cantonese version)/容易受傷的女人(Mandarin version) – Faye Wong)

The song that I chose for today is “容易受傷的女人” by Faye Wong. This is one of Faye’s classic. There are two version of this song, one is the Cantonese version and the other is the Mandarin version. I will only focus on the Cantonese version here today. The direct English translation of the title is “A woman that easily gets hurt”.

The lyrics of the song area bout love. The protagonist said that it is getting darker and she is getting more drunk. She feels that they are getting closer now. Her thought are ambiguous and getting more contradictory. Her heart had been broken before, and now she is letting him to get closer; she feels that comfort and questioning are slowly growing in her heart. It is hard for her to hold her feelings now, she knew that she is the type that could easily get hurt. So please don’t come and go, please treasure her heart. If you understand her, then please keep loving this easily hurt woman; don’t wait, just kiss. Having him beside her, she finally found trust; even everything might have been questionable, but being happy means that they are a couple. She was worried about her life, but lucky that he can get closer; from there she knows that her life contain love and helped her to build her confident. Her heart had been broken before, and now she is letting him to get closer; she feels that comfort and questioning are slowly growing in her heart. . It is hard for her to hold her feelings now, she knew that she is the type that could easily get hurt. So please don’t come and go, please treasure her heart. If you understand her, then please keep loving this easily hurt woman. Even if her life ends here, she wanted it to end with a kiss. Having him beside her, she finally found trust; even everything might have been questionable, but being happy means that they are a couple. Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to the Mandarin version for comparison.

26th Dec 2013 (你快樂(所以我快樂) – Faye Wong)

The song that I chose for today is “你快樂(所以我快樂)” by Faye Wong. This is one of Faye’s classics. The direct English translation of the title is “You are happy (so I am happy)”.

The lyrics of the song are very simple and it is about love. The protagonist said that her boyfriend rises his eyebrows so she smiles. Now his eyes are turning red and her sky started to turn grey.  Oh, who knows, let’s say you are happy so I am happy. Rose started to blossom and what is she thinking, this is a time that is hard to requested for, it likes god make it for her. Happiness and sadness, she will follow his footstep. His hair got messy, so she got hot. He felt tired, so she started to sleep. Who knows, let’s stop asking why and just enjoy. Hope you will like the song.

3rd Aug 2013 (執迷不悔 (Cantonese version)/執迷不悔 (Mandarin version) – Faye Wong)

The song that I chose for today is “執迷不悔” by Faye Wong. This is one of Faye’s classic and also one of my favourites. The direct English translation of the title is “No regrets”. This song has two versions, one in Cantonese and the other is in Mandarin. I will focus on the Cantonese version today.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The lyrics is rather complex, but I will try my best to translate it. It begin with the protagonist saying that she will face her past and future. No matter how much she lie to herself, how much she don’t care about right or wrong, how much she regret or how open about it she is, there will come one day that she don’t want to think about her past. If she decided to keep going with the relationship, then she needs to be prepared for the future. She know that if they keep going, then they will be separated because they don’t understand each other enough. Everyone around her is wishing her all the best, but she is already sick of him telling her that she is beautiful. So she decided to say goodbye to him, as she feel that if they keep going they would hate each other. So why not separate today and hope that she will comeback one day. She think that when she decided to comeback he might have changed his mind, but she will keep loving her without regret. Hope you will like the song.

18th Jul 2013 (夢中人 – Faye Wong/Dreams – The Cranberries)

The song that I chose for today is “夢中人” by Faye Wong. This song was quite popular back in the time when it came out. From memory it was a theme song from a movie. The direct English translation of the title is “The person in the dream”. This song is the Cantonese cover of “Dreams” by The Cranberries.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It begins by the protagonist saying that in her dream, there is this person who hug her for a minute, then kissed her for 10 minutes. A stringer, how did he walked into her heart and created this excitement. She felt that she had fallen in love with him before, but had never been this closed before. She wonders why he attacked her and walked into her dream. She wanted this person from her dream to turn into a real person. So she decided to wait in her dream for his kiss that last for a million minutes.  Hope you will like the song.

27th Feb 2013 (人間 – Faye Wong/清流 – Miyuki Nakajima 中島美雪)

The song that I chose for today is “人間” by Faye Wong. I always love this song, by as I got so many songs in my music library I tend to forget about them until I accidentally played them. I clicked on this song earlier today by accident and it brings back some memory from the past. Anyway, back to the song. The English translation of the title is “Mortal World”. This is the Chinese cover version of the Japanese song “清流” by Miyuki Nakajima 中島美雪

The lyrics of this song described the reality of our world. It main message is to tell us that the world is not perfect, not everything will turn out as we expected, but we can always make it better. It starts of saying that “the sky doesn’t necessary became clear after a thunder storm, and that there isn’t always a rainbow when the sky is clear. So you might look innocent, but it doesn’t mean that you are ignorant. Not all the relationship will have a start and end, and loneliness doesn’t always lead to worries. Though in our life, we can’t avoid pain. Let’s hope that your eyes will only see smile. Wish that every tear that you drop could emotionally touch others. Pray that every dream that you have could be achieved. The mortal world in the sky, if it really worth praising, it is only because you are there to make it feel warm. The world is big, and it is more blurry then you would have imagined, so I wouldn’t lie to you and just wish that you could understand what I am talking about. I wish that you understand, then you would know what to do with your life.”

Although the lyrics sounds a bit cruel, but because of Faye’s voice and expression you actually feel a bit warm after listening to the song. Hope you will enjoy this song as much as I do. As usual, I have also linked the original Japanese version for comparison.

21st Jan 2013 (愛與痛的邊緣 – Faye Wong)

The song that I chose today is “愛與痛的邊緣” by Faye Wong. This song came out in 1994, it was very popular back then, as it was also the period when Faye was being popular. Though it is only today I realised that there is a original mandarin version of this song call “有多少愛可以重來” by Michael Huang (黃仲崑). Anyways, back to Faye’s version, the direct English translation of the title is “On the edge of love and pain”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist is in an unstable relationship. She thought about the time that they were together and wonder how it gets to this point. She has been waiting for her boyfriend for a long time, but he didn’t show up. She feels that her boyfriend don’t like her anymore, but she wonder why he don’t dump her. She don’t want the relationship to go on like this so she wanted to break up with him, yet her heart is still thinking of him and wanted to stay with him. So she is in the stage of love and pain. Hope you will like the song. I have also linked the mandarin version sung by Michael just in case you wanted to listen to it.

Though the protagonists of the song didn’t end up being together, they were listening to an old CD that they used to listen and remembered all the moment that they had together.
