21st July 2014 (如果一世得不到 – Aaron Kwok)

The song that I chose for today is “如果一世得不到” by Aaron Kwok. It was a song from 1995, a theme song of a movie. The direct English translation of the title is “If I will never get it in my life”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said if they continue their love, it would bring more sadness. Because they love each other, so they have to be separated. This theory will never change. The person accompanied you will never be the one you love the most. If breaking up now will freeze the best moment, then he is willing to breakup even though he is not happy with the decision. If he will never get her in his life, then it would get him to dream of her more. So ending like this perhaps is the best. Getting old in a normal way is painful, so ending like this perhaps is the best. In his memories, she will never age. Remember the best moment. Because we don’t have enough, so we treasured. Remember the most painful, as you still haven’t let it go. Because he missed it, he wishes that when she feels lonely, she could think about the time when they were deeply in love. He still loves her truthfully, but how many could get old with their love one? If he will never get her in his life, then perhaps it is better to take a step back and let it end like this. If they could be together, no one would be able to guest the future, so perhaps ending like this is the best. In his memories, she will never age. Hope you will like the song.

20th July 2014 (Lonely – Grasshopper/濡れた髪のLonely –池田聡)

The song that I chose for today is “Lonely” by Grasshopper. This is one of Grasshopper’s classic songs. The song came out in 1991 and it was a big hit. This song is the Chinese cover version of a Japanese song called “濡れた髪のLonely” by池田聡.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said “Lonely! Is Lonely the only thing left on Earth? In this sold distance world, it is impossible to chase after that girl again. Didn’t stop lonely, so when I got bored, I got lonely. In my half dreamy state, I woke you up, because without you my life would be meaningless. It is like being trapped behind a thousand walls, bumping into them a thousand or millions times, but every time I was disappointed. No matter early or later, I wishes that you would accept this relationship once more. If there is a chance, please let me know. During the day, I felt lonely; at night, at evening at midnight I feel lonely. Every day, every minute I dream of you, would there be a chance that you could release me from my craziness of you. When I am alone, I feel lonely; but I also feel lonely when I am with many others. I call your name when I am drunk and when I woke up after my hangover.  Without you, my life is meaningless. Getting back that broken dream, just wishing that there could be one more time, for that I tried to show you all my love. No matter early or later, I wishes that you would accept this relationship once more. If there is a chance, please let me know. During the night, I felt lonely; at night, at evening at midnight I feel lonely. Every day, every minute I dream of you, would there be a chance that you could release me from my craziness of you. When I am alone, I feel lonely; but I also feel lonely when I am with many others. I call your name when I am drunk and when I woke up after my hangover.  Without you, my life is meaningless.” Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to the original for comparison.

19th July 2014 (快樂很我們 – at17)

The song I chose for today is “快樂很我們” by at17. The direct English translation of the title is “Happy is so us”.

The lyrics of the song are about happiness. The protagonist said “I am still happy, even when sadness is too great causing youth to wear away. You, looking forward to happiness; you wanted to stay in you youth until you feel that sadness is nothing. When the problem is too big, things get too bad or think too much, how could you be happy? If the world is too messy, and we are too attached, knowing it wouldn’t change anything. Busy, but we still got many years. Annoyed, but we will grow up. In the city, there would always be something that is so us, the feeling of youth. Yellow chrysanthemum, when it blossom it got so many you. South wind, it blows through so many me. In the city, there would always be something that is so us, wanted to beautifully pass away. Even for you, if you still got me as usual, you would feel happy because of that. Hope you will like the song.

18th July 2014 (其實心裡有沒有我 – Sammi Cheng and Andy Hui)

The song for today is “其實心裡有沒有我” by Sammi Cheng and Andy Hui, a song from 1991. This is a request from a reader of this blog. This song is very interesting as it mark the start of the relation between Sammi and Andy, after this song their relationship started to surface. Although they broke up for a few years, they are now back together and surprisingly their relationship have always been accepted by most of their fans (this is quite rare I think especially in the 80’s and 90’s when most fans see their idols as their partner). The direct English translation of the title is “Am I really in your heart”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, this song is a bit tricky to translate as half of the time the two sing together but with different lyrics, so hopefully I can still capture the meaning of the song. I am going to mark Andy’s lyrics by “M”, Sammi’s by “F” and when they sing together “T”. M: If I fall in love with you how could I hide; dreamed about your smile. If I dreamed about you every day secretly, does this count as stupid? F: A fire is lit from this heart, but do you understand me? Time is flying by everyday slowly, who would wanted to remember me every second? T: Wish that you would let me to get closer to you. M: Who would have thought that love is so unpredictable. T: Wow Oh No. M: In the long night, little stars, just like you passed by my window. F: In the long night, I need to transform into one of those stars in your eyes. M: Looking at you, you shine and brighten my heart. F: Let you every night to stare at me. M: Let me once again think about the beginning. F: Is me who love you more. M: Did you loved me a bit? F: That’s why I dreamed of you every day. M: Why it is never too clear F: whether you got me in your heart. Hope you will enjoy this song.

17th July 2014 (神話.情話 – Emil Chau & Chyi Yu)

The song that I chose for today is “神話.情話” by Emil Chau and Chyi Yu (the older sister of Chyi Chin, more on Chyi Chin see: 16th Jul 2013 (外面的世界 – Chyi Chin)). This  song was a theme song of a famous TV drama. The direct English translation of the title is “Legends. Love words”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It said, love is happiness, sadness, revel, emotion or perhaps become legend in the future. Love is an agreement, habit, time, white hair and it also make us scare and happy at the same time. Total forget about ourselves, but we can still promise each other for life. In the future if someone asked, we both would fleet to the high sky. Love is smile, is crazy laugh, is stupid laugh, is joke or perhaps it exist because we scare about lonely. Love is what price, for what reason, at what place, and what causes it to give warm to this world. Who would still ask for more, as  there is a dramatic ending. Who could bear the ending,  as they would search for each other regardless what happened. Ar, when we are together, fire would arrive in the snow. Love is burry and it was there at the very beginning; this romantic old story. Love is messy, last life, this life or the next life, we wouldn’t know even if we missed out. Falling into the mortal world, no matter where we go we will be together as life would be meaningless if we live alone. Love is fore and back, always tangle together til the end of this life when we will never be apart. Hope you will like the song.

16th July 2014 (心亂如麻 – Jacklyn Wu)

The song for today is “心亂如麻” by Jacklyn Wu. The direct English translation of the title is “Heart is as confuse as flax” (this is a Chinese phase, meaning that a person is very confuse and not sure what to do). Note that this is a different song to Janice’s “心亂如麻” (25th Nov 2013 (心亂如麻 – Janice Vidal)), although they share the same name, they are two completely different songs.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that she doesn’t want this kind of friendship, as she is scare to control every expression on her face; using her tears to test his reactions or just a polite smile. Is unrequired love the same as love? But she believed that their love was once intense. Even if he is lacking reaction, she is still there to create their future vision. Her heart is as confuse as flax, and it is hard to stop thinking about it. So may as well to treat him as an unknown to get him surprise, but when she leave she feels attached. Her heart is as confuse as flax, and it is hard to stop thinking about it. From a relax conservation and all of a sudden turn awkward, the more happy she is the more worry she gets. She doesn’t want to make a quick decision, as she feels proud of the relationship even when not too many people know about it. If he gave her over reaction, then even drinking bitter wine would get her awake. Is unrequired love the same as love? Even if it lack love, it still feels warm. Talking to him make her feels happy, so who would care even if it doesn’t have love or hate. Hope you will like the song.

15th July 2014 (幻影 – Alan Tam)

The song for today is “幻影” by Alan Tam. I can’t believe I haven’t talked about this song after running this blog for so long. This is one of my favourite, and it always come up in my head. This is one of Alan’s classic and it was also a theme song for a movie back in the 80’s. The direct English translation of the title is “Phantom”.

The lyrics of the song are about a love story between a man and a ghost. At the start of the song, the protagonist doesn’t know how to describe this relationship, but he wanted to write a poem about her. He is speaking nonsense and thinking so hard, but still hasn’t thought of the perfect words that could describe her. If he could touch the image in the mirror, then at least he might have been able to it. That little purple box, it contains many unfinished things. The bright and clear, represent love. It secretly shining, making it very eyes catching. This love is like an illusion, it will disappeared one day. But that phantom is reappearing in his heart again. How did he start to get contact with this love, it feels like that he knows it would be hard. In his dreams and memories, he is searching for her. She is creating love ripple in his heart. But she didn’t stay for him to catch or get a hold of her. This illusion like love is staying in his heart; giving him warm at every cold night. This illusion like love is staying in his heart, allowing him to hug her every night. Hope you will like the song as much as I do.
