The
song that I chose for today is “任我行” by Eason Chan. This is a very new
song, I only hear it a few days ago. It is a song from Eason’s newest album.
The direct English translation of the title is “Allowed to walk freely”.
The
lyrics of the song are about life and I found it very touching. It begins with the
protagonist saying that “You are the only one that is so naïve. So you can’t
blame anyone else for causing the dead of the angelfish. You thought that it
wasn’t free enough so you bring it to the beach for a swim. You remember that
time you want to explore the mountain at night? You teammate wanted to give up.
That time, you had all the freedom, but you feel disappointed. It doesn’t
matter because there are light in the mountain. The naughty boy had learned to
be polite and not to be too brave. Now many paradises in the world would let
you walk freely? Since when you learned not to walk away from the crowd and
since when you realised that you need to be companied by friends? Since when
you feel sorry for the butterfly to be trap in the paradise and that no one
cares about how high and far it could fly? It is only if you were lost then you
should worry that you can’t catch up to others. But how could we survive if
everyone ignores us? The naughty boy is now grown up and he is not stupid. Why
would he wanted to be alone in the rain while he could be enjoying a hot spring
with his friends? There are so many goo place in the world, so who do you
wanted to visit in the lonely village? If you are traveling in your dream
trail, then perhaps you should stand out more to let others notice you. You
have travelled through a few bedrooms and now to the church, you felt as if you
are 70 or 80 years old. You have followed the road to here, so try not to back
off. Darling, we had waited for all the green light, it is important to get
ourselves go a bit crazy. We are allows to go to all the roads, cinemas, shops
or anywhere in the world. Since when we started to worry that there are no one
in the mountain? Since when we started to scare about looking at the stars? So
the angelfish will pass away if it tried to travel across the ocean, we will
not hear the peaceful story that people told us in the childhood. So please naughty
boy, stop asking why we all end up taking the same path if we are allows to choose
our own path. Why us human is just like sheep?” (Note: in Chinese, “Crowd
psychology” is call “羊群心態” which directly translated as “Sheep
psychology”. This is what the sheep is referring to at the end of the lyrics).
I
found this song very deep and the lyrics are so true. All of us thought that we
got the freedom to choose our own path, to have our own life journey. But at
some point in time, we would start to worry that we are not doing at good as
the other people and from that point we would start copying what others are
doing, follow what others do. At the end, all of us end up in the same place,
all suffering from life. So why can’t we just simply follow our heart and do
what we think that suit us best or what we enjoyed the most? That way we wouldn’t
be living the life of others. I hope you will like the song.
