A Song a day: 15th May 2013 (大哥

The song that I pick for today is “大哥” by Janice Vidal. From memory this was Janice’s first original song, it was recorded in her second album. Her first albums were covers of Leon Lai’s classic. This song was a big hit back in 2005 when it came out. The direct English translation of the title is “Big brother”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It describe a girl deeply love a boy, but this boy just see her as a little sister. The lyrics start off saying that perhaps they have called each other brother and sister too often that he forget that he once love her. She said, if a boy and girl had never kissed then there it will never lead to love. If she never had feeling toward him, she wouldn’t stick around with him, so calling him big brother is just a cover up. Therefore who would be happy to just become friends? It’s funny that there is no need to give explanations nor be separated if they are referred as brother and sister. She would rather to take the chance of losing a friend and pursue with love.
