14th May 2013 (姊妹 – Miriam Yeung)

The song that I chose for today is “姊妹” by Miriam Yeung. I remember this song was quite a hit back in the day when it came out. To me that was Miriam’s era. Her songs were very popular and so many people seem to like her, many of her albums sold well. These days, Miriam’s songs feel different, perhaps it is because she got married so she sees things differently, and this feeling got reflected in her songs. The direct English translation of the title is “Sister” or “Bride mate” (the Chinese word has two meanings).

The lyrics of the song are about two best friends. The protagonist said that she knows her friend very well and they share lot of secrets. Now her friend is getting married and she feel that she is getting a bit jealous. As she is her best friend, she had cried and smiled with her many times. She just want to give her best friend a hug as her friend is the only one who would listen to her whine when she break up with her boyfriend. She said that she had listened to her friend’s advice to not think too much and forgive him when he did wrong. But her friend mange to do it, she can’t. She feels that every time she fall in love, her relationship will go wrong. Perhaps it is because she loves them too much that her boyfriends felt too much pressure, turning them into friends and later on lost contact. She feel that no one seems to care about her and no one wants to married her. She wanted her friend can give her some luck so that she could found her Mr. right. Hope you will like the song.
