9th June 2014 (喜歡你 – Beyond)

The song that I chose for today is “喜歡你” by Beyond. For those of you who wonder where I am, I am currently in Hong Kong. I went to Tsim Sha Tsui tonight, a place that is fully of tourist, as it got many place for shopping. Being a half local, I usually don’t shop here, but as I got nothing much to do tonight and the hotel that I am staying in got a shuttle bus that bring me there, I decided to go there for a walk along the famous Victoria Harbor. While I was very disappointed with the fact that many things had change since I was here last time (like ice cream increased by 30% and frozen yogurt that I used to buy increased by 150%), I saw a new boom in street performance. This used to be something that got popular in Mong Kok (but all disappeared after the government decided to remove the pedestrian only street time). I stayed there for around an hour, listening to these street performers sing. I listened to two separate group, they were at least 500m apart. The first group sung many Beyond’s songs, including “喜歡你”. Funny things is after I decided to leave the first to walk back to my bus stop, I bump into the second group. The second song that they sung was also “喜歡你”. Beyond, to many Hong Konger, represent freedom as they tried to express their message through their music, mostly to deal with sensitive issues. Listening to these groups, I am surprise that even though Beyond had disappeared for so many years, yet its songs still remain in many Hong Konger heart and formed their core value. Being deeply touched by the two music groups that I bumped into tonight, to paid tribute to these new generation that are so passionate with music, I would like to talk about “喜歡你” for tonight.

The direct English translation of the title is “Loving you”. The lyrics of the song are about love. The lyrics use some complicated words, so hopefully my translation would make sense. It said the light rain and wind wetted the street at sunset. Rub away the rain from the eyes, the protagonist suddenly looked up. He looked at the lonely street light, and it brings up some sad memories. These memories created ripple effect, bringing up so many memories. The happiness from the pass is still on his face. He wishes that she would know at this moment he wanted to say it truthfully from his heart, “Loving you”; that lovely pair of eyes, that attractive laughter. He wishes that he could touch her cute face again, hold her hand to talk about their dreams, just like what they did in the past. The him in the past was full of passion, and he was so impulsive, he said that loving her would be hard to have freedom. He wishes that she would know at this moment he wanted to say it truthfully from his heart, “Loving you”; that lovely pair of eyes, that attractive laughter. He wishes that he could touch her cute face again, hold her hand to talk about their dreams, just like what they did in the past. Every night, he walked alone, so cold. In the past he only cared about himself and never realised how painful she was. “Loving you”, that lovely pair of eyes, that attractive laughter. He wishes that he could touch her cute face again, hold her hand to talk about their dreams, just like what they did in the past. Hope you will like this song.
