The song for today is “去你的婚禮” by Candy Lo. The direct English translation of the title is “To your wedding”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist feeling toward her ex-boyfriend’s wedding. She asked is that him, who managed to found a cheap partner, passed along the good news. What could be worse than your old love told you that he found true love? So cute? All she knows is to fight, never asked anyone for tenderness. She lives a tough life. You think she likes to scarify her life for her career? She thinks she needs to wear the best to cover up all the things that she lack. 29th Sep 2014 (抗戰二十年 – Beyond)

The song for today is “抗戰二十年” by Beyond. I chose Beyond’s song for today because of what’s happening in Hong Kong. Currently, many people in Hong Kong are protesting for true democracy, expressing their view in hope for the government to hear their voice. Many of the protesters are students. I often hear people say that these student have been manipulated, using them as a tool to create chaos. I really disagree with this, why do these people ignore the voice of the student because of their age? Just because they are younger, doesn’t mean that they don’t know what they want. They are the next generation of the society, they should have their say. Besides, without being as old as us adult, they are less tide down by the stress that put on them from the society, they are less fear on speaking up and showing us the true faces of our society. So as an adult, I truly respect their action. I sometime feel ashamed that as an adult, I fail to protect the next generation, leaving them to stand up for the whole society. While I am overseas and really can’t do much to support, I would like to show my support through the song for today. The direct English translation of the title is “Fighting for twenty years”.

More on the song, this is quite special, as it was released after the leader Ka Kui passed away. The melody was written by Ka Kui before he passed away. After many years, the other three members decided to use this melody and produce a new song. The lyrics of the song are about not giving up and keep fighting for your believe. It said, we have been fighting for twenty years and the world have changed a lot. But I will promise you that I will not change a bit. Back then we were empty handed when we made our point, we didn’t make much noise either. But we grew up with disturbances and insufficiency, how would be scare of expressing ourselves. We been through the change of time, top ten changes and formed again. The road was dangerous, we have been threaten many times and we are now used to warning. The things that we treasured might have been sacrificed already, but the spark that was created is still shining. We have been fighting for twenty years and the world have changed a lot. But I will promise you that I will not change a bit. A few shoot of gun fire broke the silence of the land and it left behind the burning smell. Now we are less anger and more kind, but sometime we are still angry. Let’s not care whether this type of fighting is modern or old fashion; as long as we haven’t completed our goal, we will keep going. We will fight for revolution as long as we are still living. As long as we keep going, there are no places that we couldn’t go. He left early, but he remains young forever. The grey road is now become a blood road. We have been fighting for twenty years and the world have changed a lot. But I will always be on your side. We are not scare to fight for another twenty years. The song for today is “蜚蜚” by Sita Chan. I was listening to a radio drama today and the theme song for that was sung by Sita. She got so much potential, but sadly she passed away last year in a car accident. This song was one of the songs in her last album. The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist feeling towards her relationship with her boyfriend. It said that when she loves him, there are so many gossips. She heard that he treat relationship like a circus; he will forget after he got his happiness, he will dump it after he had admires it. So loving him she will hate herself as well. It felts like she is in love on the edge of a cliff, how exciting could that be? She won her love all because she is capable of lying to herself. The love below the falling wall, how much sadness could it bare? She hates herself as she knows that she should have avoided it. She hates to hear talk about her rights or wrongs. At the end she decided to blindly fall in love with him. Perhaps she deserved to die as she couldn’t live without him, but gossips helped him to turn the wrongs into right. The song for today is “少女心事” by Leslie Cheung. Not sure why, but this morning when I wore up this song was already playing in my head, so I thought I should talk about it here today. Like many other songs back in the 80’s this is a Chinese cover version of a Japanese song “Sayonara” by Koujiro Shimizu (清水宏次朗). The direct English translation of the title is “Girl’s mind”.

The lyrics of the song are about an affair between the protagonist and a girl. It said, in the foggy light, a drunk girl is releasing the smell of love. The grey jacket is smell like perfume. In the silence the girl is not dare to look at the protagonist. Who is the person that uses this sadness to lock her up? Her cherry colour lips are tightly closed. He understands that it is presumptuous to kiss her, but he hope that this kiss could unlock her from her tears. Sayonara (this is Good bye in Japanese), sayonara, girl’s mind, he wishes that he could understand and knows how it works. Sayonara, sayonara, girl’s minds, can’t see the end of this unpredictable love. The eye brow looks like a heart. The oversize shirt is releasing the sense of love. The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist’s relationship with her boyfriend. She said that they had a very good relationship. The song for today is “豬小姐” by Myolie Wu. This was a theme song for a TV drama, it share the same melody as “豬先生” by Andy Hui as they were both for the same drama, though the arrangement of the songs and the lyrics are slightly different. The direct English translation of the title is “Ms. Pig”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that she is so naïve like a stupid pig, and she never got anyone cheering for her. But she is lucky to have him to fall in love with her weaknesses, so perhaps happiness doesn’t need to be rich. The world likes to stare at her funny acts with a cold eye. If she could make him laugh, then she feels that there is at least a purpose in her life and she is willing to perform this stupid act as donation. What a stupid pig and everyone wants to make fun of her. She can’t pretend to be a princess and didn’t manage to meet someone hot. The song for today is “情非得已” by Harlem Yu. This song was the theme song for the Taiwanese drama “流星花園” (“Meteor Garden”) back in 2001. The drama was based on a Japanese comic and it was a big success. The title is a bit hard to translate into English as it is a Chinese phrase, it means “As a last resort, I have to do it”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that it is hard for him to forget about her attractive eyes. In his mind, her outline just couldn’t disappear. Holding her hands, he could feel her tenderness, and he starting to feel that he can’t breathe. He wanted to value her naïve, seeing her being hurt he felt sad. He is worry that he will love her so he is not daring to let himself to get close to her. He worries that he couldn’t give her anything, as loving her need a lot of courage. He is worry that he will fall in love with her, perhaps one day he will not be able to control himself. Thinking gives himself pain. So loving her is his last resort. The first time I saw its title I thought it was a new cover version of Jacky’s classic “分手總要在雨天”, but after looking at the title again carefully I realised that it is differ by one word. So far I really like this song, and have been listening to it many times already. The direct English translation of the title is “Break up always appointed on a rainy day”.

The lyrics are about how the protagonist copes with breakup. She said: “I can no longer be friend with you. I have even lost the purpose of my life. Tried so hard to love someone, but it wasn’t enough. A sudden enjoyment, how long could that last. The best of everything, please stop researching who is worth it who isn’t. The song for today is “今夜很寧靜” by Kelly Chan. This is a song that I really like. Although it was quite popular back at the time when it was released, but it doesn’t seems to be well remembered by majority of the audience. The direct English translation of the title is “Tonight is very quiet”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist feeling sad as she recently got dumped. The protagonist said: “The sound of the bell near the wall, the sound of the water at the edge of the basin, the laughter from neighbour, I want to hear no more. The sound of cars from the street, the soft sound of the wind; in the middle of loneliness, it is hard to tell my heart to calm down. The song that I chose for today is “司機” by Shawn Yu. Shawn hardly sings these days as he is more focuses on movies and his own fashion brand. This song was a theme song for a movie and it was quite popular. The direct English translation of the title is “Driver”.

The lyrics of the song are about a love story between a driver and a passenger. The protagonist said: “ Told to go forward and will go forward without turning as my identity is restricted. I am stupid and slow, but I am willing to accompanying you to the last stop. It is like my fate that I can only drive other people partner to their destination, so on the way, I never had the chance to stop and watch the street with you. Before entering the tunnel, next to the main road of the busy city, the fireworks were too short. While you date, eat or shopping, I can only stay on the side. When you put your hand out, I will always be there, so simple to make me come and go. Not up to me to choose, my true love, when will I be able to drive you to and from work? The song for today is “勞斯．萊斯” by Denise Ho. I had talked about the demo version “勞絲.萊絲” by Charmaine Fong previously. The two versions share the same name (although the words used are slightly different, they pronounced the same). The two versions got different lyrics despite they got similar story line. The direct English translation of the title is “Rolls．Royce”

The lyrics of the song are about gay love. It said, Rolls and Royce are both young man. Rolls was originally one of the best player in the school team. Royce just likes to read. But the two just happened to see each other all the time, and they always wore the same clothes. The romance story begin from the two accompanying table, but the two of them not dare to go wantonly. Perhaps being close friends always carry love. But being such a good brother and love each other so much, others will always say no this this relationship. When they got carried away sometime they put their hands onto the other shoulder, but one of them will back off. They enjoyed it secretly, but worry to speak out. Even when they try to lost eye contacts, they knows in their heart that this is love. Boy and boy, how could they get so close? Rolls is hard to handle this, but he and her had once promised each other. Though at the same time, Royce is also so crazy about him. And finally, there is this time when she run into Rolls. They looked into each other’s eyes and took off their clothes. Rolls was confused, but now he knows that he never saw her as a girl. Perhaps being close friends always carry love. But being such a good brother and love each other so much, others will always say no this this relationship. Why this pure love would start something bad? He was really surprise, and thought about the time when they meet, they always study, listen to music and gaze at the sea together. The two didn’t know whether it was love or not as the boy thinks that they were both boys. At the end, they found out about the girl true identity. She passes away and formed a butterfly.
