30th Jun 2013 (黑擇明 – Eason Chan)

The song that I chose for today is “黑擇明” by Eason Chan. I have listen to this song many many time, but it is only today I actually pay more attention to the lyrics. The lyrics of the song is very meaningful and encouraging, so I decided to share it here today. The direct English translation of the title is “Dark chose Light”. Note that the song name “黑擇明” got the same pronunciation as the famous Japanese director 黑澤明 (Kurosawa Akira).

The lyrics of the song are about keep living. The lyrics start with the protagonist telling us that his name is not dark, he is not scare of the darkness and he had chosen light. He chooses the darkest cinema to make it bright. Before he left, he still left behind many colourful films for other to watch. He is very helpful, he know how to speak up for the poor. The colour is not bright enough and the it is not bloody enough.  If one day you stared in the movie, he hopes that the scrip doesn’t match your life. Please don’t be worry, as the world is full of bad things, and this city has already gotten enough bad things. Our emotion could go through ups and downs and it is hard to tells what’s next. But if our life is like a game, then perhaps we should make the most out of it. In the darkness, you have chosen the light, so you can decide the story ending by your emotion. If you chose to act in a sad movie, the story may die, but you wouldn’t. You got dump by your love one and you chose to die. But your mother is so sad that she wanted to die as well, so now have you felt the guilt yet? There are many more people in a worse situation than you, so now you can stop feeling sad. Being depress and you wanted to die. So you think your doctor is useless? Have you forgotten all the good time in your childhood? If you like to play games, why not treat life like a game and practise like you would and be good at it? And if you are not scare of dead, then why are you scared of being painful? Dead will knock on your door one day, so there is no need to get there by yourself.

This song is very meaningful. The lyrics basically tell us that there are many negative things happened in our city every day. Many of us can’t take it and a lot of us chose to die to escape from the pain. But if you are going to commit suicide, have you thought about the impact that it will have on your love one, like your parents? We got the power to change our lives, we can choose. If you have the courage to commit suicide, then why don’t you have the courage to fight? We are all going to die one day, so why chose to end our life by ourselves. Hope you will like the song.

29th Jun 2013 (大會堂演奏廳 – Hacken Lee)

The song that I chose for today is “大會堂演奏廳” by Hacken Lee. This is one of my all-time favourite and one of my favourite from Hacken. This song is very very old, I think it is from the early 90’s. Every time I listen to it, it paint a picture in my head. The direct English translation of the title is “Town Hall’s concert hall”. (In Hong Kong, most of the concert halls are in the Town hall.)

The lyrics of the song are about love. It begins with the protagonist saying that at night when he walks by himself, he feels alone. The light rain make things look burry. The cold yellow light feels like the fog light is laughing at him. For some reason, these remain him of the time when he turn his head, and meet her in the town hall. They affectionate and they were holding hands. It felt like the time was stopped, and the concert felt very romance. But the time didn’t stop, and now it is all gone. The funny thing is that he can’t stop himself from thinking of the sweet time that they had together. Under the stars, she is laughing at him, as she thinks he is like a clown. So now he is not afraid of breaking up. After the break up, he gets thinner and thinner. Fallen in love makes him tired. Hope you will like the song.

28th Jun 2013 (愛妳 – Andy Hui)

The song that I chose for today is “愛妳” by Andy Hui. This is one of the classic of Andy and I like this song. The direct English translation of the title is “Love you”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The lyrics start off with the protagonist saying that “So the end of the world have arrived, and you asked me how it is like. The sea and the sky is coloured red, and in the fire there is only you and me. It was beautiful, as our hearts can be together. Love, is unlimitedly beautiful, unlimitedly you and unlimitedly me. You haven’t answered my question, would you married me? Loving you, I never thought that it was a misfortune and never thought of why. If I can love you, even it is bitter I would enjoy it. So the end of the world has arrived, and please ignores how it would end. There is no need to think too much, just hope that we wouldn’t miss the moment. You stopped me to get closer, but I believe that one day I will break through the wall.” Hope you will like the song.

27th Jun 2013 (藍色傘下等 – Amanda Lee)

I have been very busy yesterday and didn’t manage to post a song. So this post is for yesterday. The song that I chose for yesterday is “藍色傘下等” by Amanda Lee. Personally I quite like Amanda, but these days her voice is broken and become very deep. The direct English translation of the title is “Waiting under the blue umbrella”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist is looking out of the window with her boyfriend and they were very happy. She remember that year when she looked into his eyes, they felt embarrassed. She remembered that he used to wait for her under the blue umbrella. She is grateful that they are still together. Hope you will like the song.

25th Jun 2013 (會過去的 – Andy Hui and Stephanie Che)

The song that I chose for today is “會過去的” by Andy Hui and Stephanie Che. This song is rather old, but it was very popular back in the time it came out. Andy Hui was never considered to be very popular, but for some reason, almost every time when he has a song with another female singer, the songs become very popular. The direct English translation of the title is “Things will past”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The song start with the female saying that she know one day she will break up with him, as it is always hard to stay together with your love one. She found that she can’t live without him. Then the male said that if she didn’t scarify, how could them be saved. Every bad thing need time to heal from. As times goes, no matter how much you treasure your past, one day it will be all gone. Then she said that back then she said please don’t break up and please don’t leave. He said, now meeting her again, he found that he could face her. They said that things that happened is like a bridge to their past, their love would not go backward. So no matter how much they love or hate each other, things will past and eventually disappeared. Hope you will like the song.

24th Jun 2013 (迷失方向 – Lilian Ho)

The song that I chose for today is “迷失方向” by Lilian Ho. The direct English translation of the title is “Lost”. I chose this song today because I feel very lost, I don’t know what I can do to get my life back in shape. I have been unhappy for like two years because of my study. Perhaps this is not call unhappy, but depress, as I often feel hopeless. Some said that I am too focus on my study that’s why when my study didn’t go as well as planned, I feel very unhappy. But seriously, I don’t know what I can do to get myself stop thinking about it especially when the deadline are approaching and I don’t know how to get things better. I feel so powerless, yet I know that I must keep going. If it is not my friends who have been calming me down, I guess I would have gone crazy by now.

The lyrics of the song are about being lost in love. The song starts off with the protagonist asking who is looking at her.  She found it hard to guess the thought of the person that is looking at her, and she doesn’t know how to hide from him. She said maybe she is just thinking too much. She knows that she is lost, and she doesn’t know whether it is right or wrong. But she said she will keep loving the guy. At the same time, she feel lost as she can’t understand his thought. Hope you will like the song.

23rd Jun 2013 (明日之後 – Andy Hui)

The song that I chose for today is “明日之後” by Andy Hui. This song came out in 2004, it was the time when Andy was popular, but it was also a time that I dislike him the most. I didn’t like his image back then. But this song is one was an exception. The direct English translation of the title is “The day after tomorrow”.

The lyrics of the song are about facing difficult. It starts off with the protagonist saying that his long winning was just a dream, and time can’t be stop. Today, he felt that his dream had been broken. After tonight, he understands that there is a limit to luck. And luck seems to suddenly disappeared, and he doesn’t know what to do, he felt that no one could help him. He felt bitterness and left out as he lost. But when he was so upset, she appeared and gave him the energy to move on. He still feels bitter, but he doesn’t feel lonely. When there is no one clapping for him, he knows that she will cheer for him.  He knows that the road forward would be dangerous without his luck, but he will keep moving forward. If it is difficult to go forward, then he will make a left turn, as she told him that one day he will reach the finish line. Perhaps his effort would be wasted, but he thinks that it is worse for him to hear her being disappointed. Standing next to her, he felt that he is a kid. Tonight, she is not in the audience clapping for him, but he knows that she will cheer for him from where she is. Even when the sky fall, he knows that she will give him strength, so no matter how difficult tomorrow would be, he knows that he will manage it. Hope you will like the song.

22nd Jun 2013 (唱這歌 – Aaron Kwok)

The song that I chose for today is “唱這歌” by Aaron Kwok. This is one of Aaron’s classic, it came out at around 1998 and it was a song for a Pepsi ad. The song was very popular back in that time and I remember I used to loop it over and over again. The direct English translation of the title is “Sing this song”.

The lyrics of the song are about life. It said that “being alone is boring, so we should create some surprise for ourselves. So use our strength to create land, and please remember, our movement will remove sadness. So listen to me, dreaming is hope, listen to me, I am creating new fun. Listen to me, in the future, we will get everyone to sing this song. We will share our goods and bads. Following me, you will found your good fortune. Singing this song will create trend in every way and by singing this song we will become the driver of the good future and we will achieve what we wanted.”

To be honest, the lyrics don’t really make sense when you read them line by line. But then again, this is a song for an ad, and its purpose is to get you motivated through its melody. So I guess the lyrics are not too important, as long as you get the idea that we are in control of our lives. Hope you will enjoy the song.

21st Jun 2013 (數你 – Miriam Yeung)

The song that I chose for today is “數你” by Miriam Yeung. I remember I used to listen to this song a lot. It is not an ear catching song, but I enjoy it melody, the calmness. The direct English translation of the title is “Count you”, what the title means is “to name all the bad things about you”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It starts with the protagonist thinking about all the things that she did for her boyfriend. She looked at their used movie ticket, and it reminded her about their good time. But now, she can’t see him nor touch him, so she think it is hard to judge how deeply she loves him. She wonders how far they were until they could be together forever. So she can only use his heart beat as an indicator, and wish that she could keep counting until she dies. She is constantly worried that they will breakup, so she tried to enjoy every second that they spent together. Hope you will like the song.

20th Jun 2013 (E 病毒 – Ekin Cheng)

The song that I chose for today is “E 病毒” by Ekin Cheng. Not sure why this song keep looping in my head today. The direct English translation of the title is “E virus”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. At the beginning, the protagonist said that the girl told him to get closer and then all of a sudden, she give him a hug and kiss him on his forehead. He starts to feel interested, but all of a sudden, she pulls her lips away from him, he feels that his heart suddenly pumps less frequent. Then she smile and continue, just when he was about to start, she tell him to get lost. He asked why she took out a book of record and recorded how he kissed her. He questions why she wanted to record his behaviour. He asked is falling in love with him is her little bio-experiment? Using his tears to write stories. Wouldn’t she feel sad by sacrificing him? Just like any other ordinary test sample? The result is scarier than death. So she uses him to investigate a disease, but when it all over, she told him that love is like a virus, there is no way to clean it all out of your system, it will destroy his central nerve. She told him that she had been a play girl because she is worry that once she had chosen her love, her position will drop down drastically and eventually became nobody. Hope you will like the song.

19th Jun 2013 (Chotto 等等 – Sammi Cheng/チョット – Maki Ohguro (大黒摩季))

The song that I chose for today is “Chotto 等等” by Sammi Cheng. This song is very old, but it was popular at the time. It was the Chinese cover of the Japanese song “Chotto” by Maki Ohguro (大黒摩季). The direct English translation of the title is “Wait Wait” (Chotto is wait in Japanese and等等 is also wait, but in Chinese).

The lyrics of the song are about love. The lyrics of the song start off with the protagonist saying to wait. She wanted to tell her boyfriend not to give her all his love at once. She rather he split his love in small part and gives it to her each day. Wait, please wait, romance is like wine, it need to be drink slowly. She said she just wanted to be warm by his love each day. So she wanted to be drunk by his love and get more drunk day by day. Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to the original Japanese version for comparison.

18th Jun 2013 (無須擔心 – Andy Lau)

The song that I chose for today is “無須擔心” by Andy Lau. I chose this song today because I am worry about a big presentation that I have to do next week. I am so panic that I can’t sleep well in the last few nights. I am not even sure why I am so panic about it, as it is not really that close to it yet, but I can’t stop myself thinking about it. So in the process of trying to calm myself down, I search with some keyword in my iTunes library and I found this song. The direct English translation of the title is “No need to worry”.

The lyrics of the song are about being panic on stage. It starts by saying “that there is no need to worry about being hurt and worry about dead. There is no need to worry in life as there are always something uncertain in our life and we will get used to it. No need to worry that people will make fun of you as everyone can sing, so don’t be polite. Just sing casually, and just think that you are singing this song for your love one. There is no need to force your audience to applaud for you and no need to get the audience to look up to you. As long as your song could tough their heart, then you will have your next chances. So to shine above others, just keep focus on singing. There is no need to chase after rewards, no need to chase for a direction and no need to figure out how to get an award. I am too lucky that I can sing for you for life. Because of your existent, I can sing relaxedly.” Hope you will like the song.

17th Jun 2013 (細水長流 – Ivana Wong/Aling Choi/Lo Mejor De Tu Vida – Julio Iglesias)

The song that I chose for today is “細水長流” by Ivana Wong. This song was originally sung by Aling Choi (who suicided last year due to depression). This song was a classic and many singer had covered it and Ivana’s version is the latest version. But note that even the original version by Aling Choi was a cover version of a Spanish song “Lo Mejor De Tu Vida” by Julio Iglesias. The title can be translated to English as “Steady” (a direct translation of the title is “small water flow for a long time”, it is a phrase in Chinese that usually describe a feeling which might not be very strong, but last for a long time.)

The lyrics of the song are about love. It starts off saying that “no matter why and what on its way, the water will flow. It will even cut through iron and rock. This is water from a river that travels through the mountain. It will keep flowing forward no matter what and it aims is to flow toward the sea. Until then it will not give up. The love in my hear flows like the water. It will always flow for you and toward you, in the past, present and even in the future. If your eyes are a deep sea, then you have already immersed me. I am grateful that we meet, just like river and the ocean. If one day we have to be separated, I will travel around and search for a way to flow toward you. But will you wait for me? You know every time I stare at you, it felt like a river looking for the ocean and your wave is telling me to submerge into you, so how could I resist. No matter whether it was sunny or rainly, it will keep flowing. The love in my heart is like a river, it will keep running toward you, in the past, present and in the future.”  Hope you will like the song. I have also linked to Aling Choi’s version and the original Spanish version.
