30th Sep 2012 (幾許風雨 – Roman Tam)

The song that I chose for today is “幾許風雨” by Roman Tam. This is one of my favourite by Roman. The direct English translation of the title is “Many storms”.

The lyrics are about the protagonist telling himself that he had went through many difficult and still standing today. It is really a song for younger people who haven’t gone through the ups and downs in their life. The protagonist in the song said that he had seen how people suck up to him when he was successful, and how people distance him when he became the loser. What we should learn is to fight in the most difficult time, to keep walking to our destination even in storm. Hope you will enjoy the song.

29th Sep 2012 (Gangnam style - Psy)

The song that I chose for today is “Gangnam style” by Psy. I am sure many of you have heard of this song as it is so popular now. For those of you that don’t know Psy, he is a Korean. This song only came out a few weeks ago and it is a big hit worldwide.

I know know Korean so I am no idea what exactly the lyrics are a bout. But as far as I know, Gangnam is a district in Seoul. This district is full of rich people (guessing it is sort of like Beverly Hills in US). So this song describe the living style of those rich people in that district. Personally I quite like the beat of the song, and the repetitive lyrics make it very easy to stuck in your head. Hope you will enjoy it.

28th Sep 2012 (還以為 – Ronald Cheng)

The song that I pick for today is “還以為” by Ronald Cheng. Ronald was quite famous back in the 90’s and very successful in his music career, but these days he focuses more on the filming side. Around a year or so ago, I was so attracted to Ronald’s songs, I found that a lot of his songs got that uniqueness that no other singer can sing the same song with the same feeling. So it is a pity that he hardly produce new songs these days. The direct English translation of the title is “I thought”.

The song is about love. At the beginning of the song, the protagonist said that his girlfriend had left him to fall in love with another guy. But later, she got dumped and she came back to him. So the protagonist thought that she would have change and would stay with him for the rest of her life. But not long after that he realised that she got another affair with another guy, though he played dumb, just so that he could stay with her. Hope you will enjoy the song.

27th Sep 2012 (貪,貪,貪 – Priscilla Chan)

Today I chose “,,” by Priscilla Chan. Priscilla is one of my all-time favourite singer. She was very popular in the late 80’s/early 90’s. These days she still sing (mainly live performance in mainland China), but personally I don’t think her voice is as good as before. This song that I chose today is one of her fast pace song (though with today standard, this is not really that fast). I think Priscilla strength is in slow pace song, so if you haven’t heard of her song before, I suggest you to click one of the links under related posts to get to her slow pace song first before listening to this one. The title in English is “Greedy, greedy, greedy”.

The song is about love. The protagonist said that she is not greedy when she was a kid. Her ambition could be easily fulfilled. But ever since she fall in love with this guy, she becomes greedy. She said that she wanted to have him all to herself. She is so greedy that she want every minute of his life to be spent with her. Hope you will like the song.

26th Sep 2012 (Google Me – MastaMic)

The song that I chose for today is "Google Me" by MastarMic. MastaMic is a rapper in Hong Kong. He is rather new, only started his career last year. This song is one of his first song. I guess I should have talk about him a long time ago to support him. He is the only singer that I know that produce music give it away for free. You can download pretty much all his albums (he called them Mixtape, but as far as I know they are all original songs) from his website (http://www.mastamic.com.hk/old/). I think he make his profit by do live performance.

I guess you can guess what this song is about from the title. As you would have guessed, it is a song that asks you to search for his name in google. The lyrics are not touching, but I really like this song. I guess I like the beat, and how it is so difference to the usual songs that I listen to. Hope you will like this song as well. 25th Sep 2012 (下次下次 – Fiona Sit)

The song that I chose for today is “下次下次” by Fiona Sit. This song came out in 2007. The direct English translation of the title is “Next time Next time”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist talk about that she had been hurt many times when she broke up with her previous boyfriends. But she told us that she will never give up on falling in love, because she know that one day she will found her true love and become the luck girl. She said that if she gave up on loving someone, then her dream will never came true. Although this song is about love, but I reckon that this theory also apply on many other things in life. If we give up without trying we will never have a chance of getting what we want, so in order to get what we hope for we need to have the courage to overcome the fear of failure. Hope you will like the song.

The song for today is “願你今夜別離去” by Leon Lai. Leon was my idol in my childhood. From memory this song was a theme song of a very popular TV series starring Leon as the protagonist. Because of the TV series, this song was very popular. The direct translation of the title is “Wish you wouldn’t leave tonight”.

The lyrics of the song are exactly about wishing the girl not to leave. The protagonist and his girlfriend seem to misunderstand each other before, but tonight they are together. But the girl wanted to leave. So the protagonist wish that she could stay and hope that tonight will never end. Hope you will like the song.

I think the lyrics are about sex. The song start off by saying that these couple just have sex. The guy felt guilty as he don’t like the girl (the protagonist). Though the girl felt very ok with it as she think that they are just looking for happiness/fun and she have got it through that, so she think that the guy don’t need to feel guilty at all. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “睡火山” by Andy Hui. This song was only released earlier this year, it is one of the songs in his newest single (I am guess that you would refer it as a singer, it only contain 4 songs, but it also include a novel.) I quite Andy’s newest single. The direct English translation of the title is “Sleeping volcano”.

The lyrics of the song describe the feeling of loving someone. The protagonist is so busy with his work that he had no time for his girlfriend (although the song didn’t say it, but I think they have broken up already). Now without her on his side, he finally realised how important she is to him. Hope you will enjoy the song.

He is sick of this ‘mental’ game that the girl is play, but he have to keep playing because he is so attracted by this girl. Hope you like the song.

19th Sep 2012 (所謂理想 – Raymond Lam)

The lyrics area bout chasing after dream. It discuss how someone can chase after their dream but at the end forgot everything else that they used to care about, like their love one. So this song discuss whether it is worth to protect our dream when we have to scarify so much for it. Hope you will like this song.

17th Sep 2012 (Today – Gigi Leung)

The song that I chose for today is “Today” by Gigi Leung. I accidentally heard this song from my mp3 player today and it reminded me a lot about my friends. This song came out in 1999, back then it was a big hit.

The lyrics of this song are about the protagonist finished her final year of school and about to leave. She is saying good bye to all her friends. Back in the 90’s, as internet wasn’t popular, it was quite hard to keep in touch with school friends. So leaving school really feels like saying the final good bye to school friends. The song though mentioned that although it was the last day, but they were all happy as they think through all the happy time that they had. They believe that one day they will meet again. They said good bye to each other and head off to follow their dreams. Listening to this song really reminded me all the happy time that I had with my friends back in high school and primary school. Hope that you will enjoy this song as much as I do.

16th Sep 2012 (黃色大門 – Joey Yung)

The song that I chose for today is “黃色大門” by Joey Yung. This song came out in 2006. Back then I have no idea what the lyrics was about (even today, I still don’t fully understand the lyrics) but the melody and the way Joey sing this song make it very attractive. Many people said that this song correspond to Hocc’s “紅屋頂” (meaning “red roof”, this song came out in 2007), as the lyrics and the style of the song are very similar. Most of all both songs were written by the same song writer and the lyrics were written by the same guy as well. The direct English translation of the title is “Yellow door”.

While the lyrics sounds like a fairy tale, it is a lot deeper and darker than that. I think the lyrics are about a girl who like to think and dreams about different things. But as she grow up, she realised that other people will see these ideas as something weird, so she keep this secretly in her heart, but she wish one day she can tell her love one about all these. Hope you will enjoy the song.

The lyrics of the song are about a girl is very attracted to a guy. She had never fallen in love before (because of this she said she is an alien, though she could really be a real alien, but never explained in the song). So throughout the song, she go through her feeling, and how she always think about this guy. Hope you will enjoy the song.

This marked the end of their relationship. She then go through a list of things that she missed about him. At the end of the song, she realised that she loved him so much that she realised that she can’t take the answer of the question, so it probably turn out better for her that he didn’t answer the question. 11th Sep 2012 (甜蜜如軟糖 – Amy Chan)

The song that I chose for today is “甜蜜如軟糖” by Amy Chan. Amy these days mainly focus on the TV drama side of her career, but she used to sing as well. This song was from the 80’s. I personally found this song very funny, perhaps it wasn’t that funny back in the 80’s. But anyway, the meaning of the song is somewhat adult only, so I think it was created ahead of its time. The direct translation of the title is “As sweet as jelly drops”.

The lyrics of the song are about sex. It uses candy as a metaphor as sex. It talks about the protagonist (a girl) who said she love sweets (i.e. sex). This guy that she see, she think that he got an eyes that looks like a candy, so she can’t resist him. To her, he is like a candy with liquor in it that could make her a bit drunk. He is also like a toffee, that would stick to her skin. Now it is the morning, and she wish she could quit this candy addiction, but because of this guy, she just can’t.

Seriously, this song is really like adult only, I wonder why back then no one complain about it. Hope this song will bring you some excitement :p

p.s. the MV is very funny, it really worth watching.

10th Sep 2012 (運 – Justin Lo)

The song that I chose for today is “” by Justin Lo. This is one of my favourite. The direct English translation of the title is “Luck”.

The lyrics of the song discuss what luck is. This song tells us that whether we are lucky or not depends on our view. For example, it mentioned that the protagonist missed his flight, but later that night he saw on the news that the plane was crashed and the pilots were dead. Even if he caught the flight, he would be living on an island by himself for a few years until someone save him. Viewing it like this makes him feel that he is lucky to miss his plane. So what it is trying to say is that lucky or not depends on how we see it. Just remember that there will always be some reward along the way waiting for us. Hope you will like this song. If you are experiencing difficulties in your life now like me, I hope this song will give you some hope in overcoming the difficulties.
