The song for today is “敵人” by Ronald Cheung. The direct English translation of the title is “enemy”.

The lyrics of the song are about a pair of couple, they fight a lot, doesn’t admit that they love each other, they keep fighting just want to get an edge over the other, but knowing that at the end no one will win if it continue like this. The protagonist said: “I couldn’t fight against your tears, and you couldn’t fight against my emblazonment about you. I couldn’t fight against you caring about me, and you couldn’t fight against my sudden kindness. I couldn’t fight against your freewill; you couldn’t fight against my deep thought. The song for today is “絕口不提愛你” by Ronald Cheng. This is a rather old song, released at the early stage of Ronald’s career. The direct English translation of the title is “Never mentioned love you”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist breaking up with his girlfriend to free her as she wanted to leave. He said: “Closed my eyes and hold my breath, for a moment I need to separate from this world. Soon I will learn about not to think of you anymore, but I still could hear the nonstop heartbeat. I allowed you, giving you back the freedom of love. I allowed myself, to carry this sadness to tomorrow. I didn’t want to give up, but I have to act as if I allowed it. 2nd Mar 2015 (閉目入神 – Ronald Cheng/瞳をとじて – Ken Hirai (平井堅)/BENI (安良城紅))

The song for today is “閉目入神” by Ronald Cheng. This is one of my favourite song, I often listen to it. It is the Cantonese cover version of the Japanese song “瞳をとじて” by Ken Hirai (平井堅). This song was the theme song for movie version of a very popular Japanese drama “在世界中心呼喚愛” (note the movie got the same name as the TV drama). A side note, there exist an English version of this song covered by BENI (安良城紅, a Japanese singer). I recently love to listen to BENI’s covered songs, so far she got 3 covered albums (“Covers”, “Covers: 2” and “Covers: 3”), all of them are of classic Japanese songs (many of these songs got Chinese cover version as well) and she fill them in with English lyrics. Most of all she is a mixed, so she got no accents that distract you from the songs, so I really like her covered version :D Ah, got so off tracked, back to Ronald’s version, the direct English translation of the title is “Close your eyes and meditate”

The lyrics of the song are about love. It said, close your eyes and meditate, the image start to shake. The white bed sheet covered up hopeless and it is full of light. Too attracted, which direction am I standing? I wish that I could hug you and sweat again, it would calm me down. I once saw that the world is full of gardens. It makes the sky warm, but no matter how beautiful they are, they will be worn down. If you have chosen a season, then changes is inevitable. No point to continue, just follow the record, resisting the pain to reconnect with you again. Your love forever, close my eyes and look up to the sky; close my eyes and follow again. The body that I chase after suddenly disappeared. I am worry that the happiness from the past will disappeared, so I tried to describe the feeling from that day. The song for today is “心寒” by Patrick Tang and Ronald Cheng. As mentioned yesterday, this is a song that I listened to quite often. The English translation of the title is “Chill to my heart”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist discussing with his friend how disappointed he was with his girlfriend. Since this is a duet, Patrick’s line will be represented by “P:”, Ronald’s by “R:” and when they sing together, “T:”. R: What had she done to you, the rest of the people are all talking about it. Those scare on your forehead, I am willing to listen to the scary truth. P: She is not that crazy, and she is still beautiful and kind. We had once in deep love, so I don’t want to give her a bad name. R: Who could be as great as you? I understand that you wanted to protect your love. P: I am already a loser, but please don’t make her name worse. R: The world disappointed me. P: My girlfriend gave me a heart chill. T: But at least we are still good. The song for today is “都是你的錯” by Kelly Chan and Ronald Cheng. This song is the Cantonese cover version of Phil Chang’s (張宇) “月亮惹的禍”. I will focus on the duet version here, there is also a solo version by Kelly, the lyrics of that are slightly different to the duet version. The direct English translation of the title is “All your fault”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. As it is a duet song, I will label Kelly’s lyrics with F:, Ronald’s by M: and when they sing together, T:. F: All your fault, even carrying is wrong. The song that I chose for today is “戒情人” by Ronald Cheng. This song is quite old, but I like it very much. The direct English translation is “Quit lover”, ‘Quit” here got the same meaning as the ‘quit’ in “quit smoking”. That is trying to quit an addictive thing; in here the thing is lover.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist talking about the love life of his friend. It begin with the protagonist telling us that his friend told him that she recently fallen in love with a guy that love to drink. She is not used to his coldness, but she can’t quit looking at his sad eyes. The protagonist thinks that she just love that she is being loved. She keeps saying that she needs to quit falling in love, but it seems that her soul said otherwise. Taking a sip could let her drunk for a few minute; who ever got her addicted would be the person that will hurt her. When she cry, could her tears really clean her eyes and show her who to trust? People who lose to loneliness are the people who treat themselves bad. Looking into his eyes would in return break her heart. Does getting drunk could really ease the pain? The protagonist hopes that when she drinks at night, the alcohol would not turn into her tears. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “人若然忘記了愛” by Ronald Cheng. A few years I was crazy about Ronald’s songs, I search everywhere for his old albums and I found two of my favourite albums. This song is in one of them. The direct English translation of the title is “If human forget about love”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It begin with the protagonist asking about his partner, is it that she is too tired for their relationship as he feel cold looking into her eyes. The flowers that he gave her can’t seem to bring the warmness from the greenhouse to her heart. If human have forgotten about love, then how could they ever loved each other. He hope that she can lean on him and listen to his heartbeat. He wonder whether she is too boarded that he can’t see love from her eyes. It seems that fireworks can’t bring back the colours into her heart. If human forgot about love and are too busy to race with time. He wishes that she could look out at the window with him. The song that I chose for today is “星光伴我心” by Ronald Cheng. This is a theme song for a movie. The direct English translation of the title is “Start light accompanying my heart”.

The lyrics of the song are about the dream of making movie. The protagonist went to the cinema a lot when he was a kid. All the movies that he seen inspired him a lot and all the faces that he see on screen stay in his heart. In the cinema, there is only good time. Time has changed, but we all still hold each other hand when we watch movie. There is no need to hide our emotion either, we can cry if we wanted. Hope you will enjoy the song.

The song that I chose for today is “時間人物地點” by Ronald Cheng. Ronald is one of my favourite singers. These days he hardly sing, but many of his old songs are classic. The direct English translation of the title is “People Place Time”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist expressing his love. It start off saying that the protagonist wishes that he could spent all his life with his girlfriend to meet all the people in his life and go to all the places together. He remember last year, they bump into each other and then they fallen in love. He is sorry that sometime he can’t be with her, but he wishes that in the future they will always be together. The song that I chose for today is “我代你哭” by Ronald Cheng. This so was very popular when it came out. From memory, it was a theme song of a movie. The direct English translation of the title is “I will cry for you”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist wanting his girlfriend to fall in love with another guy, as he think that others would provide a better protection to her. It start off saying that he wishes that his girlfriend could found a few more guys to love fall in love with even he might get worry. He wanted her not to give out so much but rather try to protect herself first. They had been together, so he knows her that when she get hurt, she will feel that she is being loved more. He haven’t thanks her yet for all the things that she gave to him. He wishes that he could have the luck to return the favour to her. If the boyfriend that she will know doesn’t know how to protect her, he wish that he could cry for her instead of her getting hurt. He said that if they can’t be together, being friends is still alright, and if she feels unhappy, he is willingly to take all her unhappiness just to thanks her for once loving him. 26th Jan 2013 (One more time – Ronald Cheng/One more time, One more chance – Yamazaki Masayoshi 山崎將義)

The song that I chose for today is “One more time” by Ronald Cheng. This is one of my favourite songs by Ronald. This song came out many many years ago, but to be honest I only notice about this song a few years ago when I wanted a Japanese animation call “5 Centimeters Per Second” (Byousoku 5 Centimeter) by Makoto Shinkai. It is an amazing animation, the best part is the last part, at which Makoto uses an old Japanese song for ending, it is very touching. This Japanese song is the original version of “One more time”, and it was because of that song I found out that Ronald sung the Chinese cover version. The Japanese version is very amazing, although I don't understand a single word but Yamazaki (The singer of the original version is Yamazaki Masayoshi 山崎將義) somehow manage to get the feeling across.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist can’t let go of the feeling that he has for his ex-girlfriend. The song didn’t tell us why they broke up. At the beginning, we found out that they have broken up for a few years. While they are still living in the same city, they have never met each other in these years. He still feels warm when he thinks of her, but he also remembers her sadness. He follows a road that they used to take, and he remembers that they used to be very sweet even though they didn’t have much to talk about. Back then, they were naïve, they didn’t think about their future much as love has taken them over. He asked himself how many time in our life we would have the chance to fall in love with our ex-girlfriend, now that he is deeply hurt, he can’t just wipe his tears and found another person to fall in love. Though he still wishes that she can forget about their past and start again, even though he knows the chances are slim. Hope you will like the song.

Someone seems to have replaced the original from “5 Centimeters Per Second” and combined it with Ronald’s version. So I have linked to that version along with the original, enjoy. The song that I chose for today is “許願樹” by Ronald Cheng. This song is one of my all-time favourite. This is a very simple song. The melody is played by a guitar only and the lyrics of the song are very simple as well. The English translation of the title is “Wishing tree”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. It started off by describing how the weather change in difference season, but the protagonist said that his love will never change. This is pretty much the main theme of the song, and it gets repeated many times in the song. I guess it is because of this simpleness of the song and the fact that the song is dominated by the vocal that makes me love it so much. Hope you will like the song as much as I do.

The song that I pick for today is “還以為” by Ronald Cheng. Ronald was quite famous back in the 90’s and very successful in his music career, but these days he focuses more on the filming side. Around a year or so ago, I was so attracted to Ronald’s songs, I found that a lot of his songs got that uniqueness that no other singer can sing the same song with the same feeling. So it is a pity that he hardly produce new songs these days. The direct English translation of the title is “I thought”.

The song is about love. At the beginning of the song, the protagonist said that his girlfriend had left him to fall in love with another guy. But later, she got dumped and she came back to him. So the protagonist thought that she would have change and would stay with him for the rest of her life. But not long after that he realised that she got another affair with another guy, though he played dumb, just so that he could stay with her. Hope you will enjoy the song.
