The
song for today is “有甚麼事” by Terence Chui. The direct English
translation of the title is “What’s the matter?”
The
lyrics of the song are about the feeling of the protagonist when he breakup
with his girlfriend. The protagonist said, hey, please don’t cry, relax, smile
quickly now, so that your eyes wouldn’t be swollen tomorrow. Breaking up will
lead to sadness and being out of control. Very soon you will forget, but do you
understand? Hey, I haven’t cry, all I wanted is to give you freedom. You are
too nice, breakup but didn’t let go. There is no need to try to comfort me to cover
up guilt. If you wanted to leave me, just say it. Really, I am fine, at least I
don’t feel embarrass. But I just still care, so I don’t want to know too much about
him. It is not wrong, I have been giving you everything, but now they are all
history. No, I treated you well, is a way to really revenge. But a person that
love you, I could I really put that plan in action. Who to hate, who couldn’t
last, and sadness keeps coming. I hope that when you sleep, you still dream of
my hands. When I have learn to love you, I have also learn to lose. Lose all my
self-esteem, but I keep trying, keep pretending that I don’t know about it. So
what’s the matter with you. Could you please stop crying? Leaving me like this

The
song that I chose for today is “寵物的畢業禮” Terence Chui. I guess this is
a continuation of another song that I previous posted (9th Sep 2012 (寵物 – Terence Chui)). The direct English translation
of the title is “The graduation of pet”.
The
lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that they were lining
up as they have to stay behind after school. He felt that they were standing there
for eternality. They were eight back then, but time didn’t stay. Later they
went into the same university and he went to her dormitory to drink with her. She
fall in love with dancing, he fall in love with her and a few years have past.
They are standing next to a lake, wearing their graduation gown. That night she
was tender and lay on his arm. She was confused about her future and she wonders
what she should do with her life. He felt that their love was emerging, but the
wind just blow it away. They have to go their separate way from tomorrow. No
matter what he does, he couldn’t stop this. It was easy for him to fall in
love, but hard to put himself away from her. He wishes praying would work, but
he knows that she is so great that everyone will after her. She hugs him, and
he felt a bit of sadness. He wish that they could be pets, so they could hug
all day long. Winter comes, and she have graduated for some time now. They meet
in a café, saying that they are now both older and the voice turn deeper. That
night, next to the lake, the tenderness from that night have already been blow
away. He was naïve and thought that she would turn back. He felt that they were
going to make it across the line, but didn’t end up doing so. He remembers that
she once wore a white dress and let him a physic test paper. She got a pet call
him, and they will see each other for the rest of their life. Hope you will

song that I chose for today is “時光機” by Terence Chui (小肥).
This was one of the songs from Terence’s first album, it was quite popular back
at that time. The direct English translation of the title is “Time machine”.
The
lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist was thinking that if he wasn’t
rich, he might think more of his friend. If God help him, he would have work
harder to show himself. If he had hold her hands as he thought on the day they dated.
If, when his opponent first appeared, he had the courage to show himself and
fight him until his dead, then he wouldn’t need to hide his love. He just
wanted to finish the time machine for her, so that everyone can travel beyond
their lifetime. The floor would be full of bullets as he tried to keep his
opponent away from her. He would plan his approach and protect her every day.
He wouldn’t run away and take charge of everything. No matter how low his self-esteem
was he would have been holding onto her today. How great would it be if he had
the courage; if he was angry when he saw his opponent; if he was smatter and if
he managed to show her his love before his opponent… Let it go, he found that
there is no point to think about his faults as the time machine start to count
down. He wanted things to change, so he may as well tell her directly. That day
he didn’t had the courage to hug her and ran away, causing him to lost the
relationship. Now he is so weak that he just imagined he could have built this
machine to meet her again. He can’t change the ending that had already
happened, so he could only wait for the next century. Hope you will like the
song.
The
song that I chose for today is “負親” by Terence Chui. This song is very
new. I only hear this song yesterday and I love it. This song uses the same
melody as “說不出的” by Rico Long but with different lyrics. Both Terence
and Rico are originated from Macau. I think the two of them are good friends. Rico’s
version is good as well, but I prefer Terence’s version. My tears almost
dropped when I listen to this song. It is hard to get a translation on the
title, as it plays with words. The pronunciation of the title is the same as “父親”
meaning father. But as can be seen the first word is different, this word “負”
means owe in this context. So the title indicated that it is a song about
father and that the protagonist of the song feel that he owe his father
something. By the way, the lyrics were especially written for Terence to
describe his relationship with his father who had passed away last year.
The
lyrics of the song are about the relationship between father and son. It starts
with the protagonist telling us that he is thinking of the time when he first meets
his dad. He was scare of his fathers’ pointy beard. He cried and moves backward,
but his father was speaking to his mother tenderly that he is very naughty. When
he was six, he was still scare of his father. Perhaps it was his father’s straight
faces that tell him not to talk to his dad. From then on, even saying goodnight
to his dad he need to think about it for a long time. He feel that his
relationship with his dad is like a couple who just breakup. Times fly, now
when they have dinner together, they don’t talk to each other. He feels that
they are worse than two strangers. Ten years later, one night, he saw that his dad
needs to relay on a machine to breath. He hold his father’s slightly warm hand
and told him that please don’t leave. He said goodnight to his dad, and until
now, he realised that he couldn’t think of anything happy between him and his
father. His tears start to drop, and he feels that this will be the last time
that they see each other. Time could not return to the beginning, he realised
that he missed so much opportunity to create good memories. Now it is too late
to make any promises, he can only keep these words to himself. His guilt of not
being nice to his dad will never fade away. The hug that he put away, the letters
that he didn’t post, now at the funeral, they are completely useless. Next to
his dad’s tombstone, even if he tries to tell his dad about all the little
things that happened today, his dad will not respond. Perhaps when he was a
kid, if he had the courage to say “I love you”, then perhaps, the two of them
would have been a lot closer.
This
song is very touching, even reading the lyrics make me cry. I guess this a very
typical story amount Chinese (or even Asian) community. As a Chinese, we tend
not to say “I love you” to our parents. We assume that they know, they
understand, we feel embarrassed to show these feeling, but sometime, this lead
to misunderstanding. By the time we realised it, it might have been too late.
So perhaps we should act before it is too late. Hope you will like the song. I

relationship between father and son, but I like Terence’s version much more.

singer from Macao. The song for today is one of his famous songs when he was
singing in Hong Kong. The direct English translation of the title is “Pet”.
This
song is about the relationship between a couple. The protagonist said that his
relationship with his girlfriend is going downhill. He remember there when they
were happily together, he had a feeling that this could happened one day. Now
he felt that his girlfriend is ignoring him while he is still trying to be with
her. He said that only pet know his feeling. Hope you will enjoy the song.
