18th Sep 2014 (明年今日 – Eason Chan)

The song for today is “明年今日” by Eason Chan. This is a reader request. This song was very popular back in 2002, and it still remains as a classic today. There is a Mandarin version call “十年”, but today post will only focus on the Cantonese version. The direct English translation of the title is “Next year today”.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist got dump and he is trying to recover. He said: “If this light falls down from the ceiling, perhaps I would not exist. So even if you don’t like me, we still don’t need to be separated. If starting from this moment I become seriously dementia, I wouldn’t need to be love. I will forever stay in bed dreaming and I wouldn’t feel sad for the rest of my life. But as a human, we need to have courage to live on, so I make my wish again, for example, learn how to accept being dump. Next year today, I will not have insomnia again, I would have already changed my mattress. If we got the chance to see each other again, or in a friend’s wedding, apprehensive waiting for you to appear. Next year today, haven’t seen you for a year, who would want to change. Leaving you for 60 years, I just wish that I could recognise your offspring, and before we depart I can hear you say good bye. Being able to see you in my life have used up all my luck. It is only today that I realised I have breath in air.” Hope you will like the song.
