A Song a day: 29th Sep 2014 (抗戰二十年

The song for today is “抗戰二十年” by Beyond. I chose Beyond’s song for today because of what’s happening in Hong Kong. Currently, many people in Hong Kong are protesting for true democracy, expressing their view in hope for the government to hear their voice. Many of the protesters are students. I often hear people say that these student have been manipulated, using them as a tool to create chaos. I really disagree with this, why do these people ignore the voice of the student because of their age? Just because they are younger, doesn’t mean that they don’t know what they want. They are the next generation of the society, they should have their say. Besides, without being as old as us adult, they are less tide down by the stress that put on them from the society, they are less fear on speaking up and showing us the true faces of our society. So as an adult, I truly respect their action. I sometime feel ashamed that as an adult, I fail to protect the next generation, leaving them to stand up for the whole society. While I am overseas and really can’t do much to support, I would like to show my support through the song for today. The direct English translation of the title is “Fighting for twenty years”.

More on the song, this is quite special, as it was released after the leader Ka Kui passed away. The melody was written by Ka Kui before he passed away. After many years, the other three members decided to use this melody and produce a new song. The lyrics of the song are about not giving up and keep fighting for your believe. It said, we have been fighting for twenty years and the world have changed a lot. But I will promise you that I will not change a bit. Back then we were empty handed when we made our point, we didn’t make much noise either. But we grew up with disturbances and insufficiency, how would be scare of expressing ourselves. We been through the change of time, top ten changes and formed again. The road was dangerous, we have been threaten many times and we are now used to warning. The things that we treasured might have been sacrificed already, but the spark that was created is still shining. We have been fighting for twenty years and the world have changed a lot. But I will promise you that I will not change a bit. A few shoot of gun fire broke the silence of the land and it left behind the burning smell. Now we are less anger and more kind, but sometime we are still angry. Let’s not care whether this type of fighting is modern or old fashion; as long as we haven’t completed our goal, we will keep going. We will fight for revolution as long as we are still living. As long as we keep going, there are no places that we couldn’t go. He left early, but he remains young forever. The grey road is now become a blood road. We have been fighting for twenty years and the world have changed a lot. But I will always be on your side. We are not scare to fight for another twenty years. No matter how far we have travelled, I will still remember our starting point, never changed. Hope you will like the song.
