The song that I chose for today is “爸爸媽媽” by Beyond. The direct English translation of the title is “Father Mother”.

To be honest, I am not too sure what exactly does the lyrics talk about. Beyond’s song usually have a deeper meaning than what it appeal. Directly from the lyrics it describes the protagonist grown up in a fragmented family. His father and mother always argue with each other. Because of this background, he tends to get lost about himself. He tends to believe everything on TV and newspapers, he don’t judge them.

While trying to search for a deeper meaning of the lyrics, people tends to say this song is about Hong Kong. The father being UK (the country that was controlling Hong Kong before 1997), the mother being China and the child as Hong Kong. I am not sure whether this is real, but it also fit the situation. Anyway hope you will enjoy the song.
