Today’s song is “最冷一天” by Eason Chan. The original was sung by Leslie Cheung, one of the legendary singers in Hong Kong. The direct translation of the song is “coldest night”.

I only recently notice about this song because of Eason, and lucky enough I can also found the original on youTube. Not sure whether I interpreted the lyrics correctly, but here is my understanding of the lyrics. This song is about a pair of couple, they have been through a lot. Although there is more sad memory than happy, the couple is glad that they can be together as they don’t have to be alone by themselves. While it sounds like the couple is using each other, but in the lyrics, it actually sounds more like that the couple knows that there are mismatch between them, but yet both of them don’t want to let go as they know that they will miss each other if they are apart. So it got this sense of lost and confuse in the song.

Although Eason’s version got the same lyrics as Leslie’s, but the way the two singers sung the song is a bit different. In Leslie’s version, the song sound more sad, while in Eason’s version there is a sense of cherish (perhaps cherish of Leslie, as this song was sung in memory of Leslie). So today, I will like to both version of the song. Hope you will enjoy the song as much as I do.
