A Song a day: 7th Nov 2012 (露絲瑪莉

The song that I chose for today is “露絲瑪莉” by Denis Ho. This song came out in 2003, back then Denis still have long hair. The direct English translation of the title is “Rose Mary”.

This song can be seen as part 1 of the story that it is trying to tell. There is a follow up of the song call “再見...露絲瑪莉” (in English it is “Good bye…Rose Mary”). Today I will only focus on the part one, hopefully I will continue on with part two tomorrow.

The lyrics of the first part basically describe that there are two people, they love each other but their love is forbidden by their society. Although it never mentioned in the song, but everyone agree that this is a lesbian couple. Throughout the song, it mentioned that every time they meet up they have to meet secretly. The protagonist questions why her world can’t accept this kind of love. She has seen many people that hate each other but were forced together, on the other hand, she and her love one loves each other, but can’t be together. I will go more in depth with this story when I talk about part two of the story with “再見...露絲瑪莉”, for now I hope you will enjoy the song.
