The
song for today is “馬路天使” by Tat Ming Pair. This is one of
Tat Ming Pair’s classics. The direct English translation of the title is “Road
Angel”.
The
lyrics of the song are about the protagonist feel that driving very fast at
night make him feel free and forget about his problems. It said, being proud in
the dark street, the body felt like touching everything. In our eyes, in the
sky, it is this red neon. Yelling at high pitch in the wind, loneliness suddenly
all goes away. Let the things that bother you and your dreams all disappeared.
The people that were following you, laughing at you all lost their purpose. Let
every minute of your youth meet with the street night every night. In the long
night, the angel is laughing and cheering. For every minute, let’s forget
everything. Jumping crazily on the street. The road is full of traps and
problems, perhaps they are warning, but who knows. Gazing at the night mist,

song for today is “禁色” by Tat Ming Pair. This song was
released in 1988. This song was covered by Denise Ho in 2005. The direct
English translation of the title is “Forbidden colour” (though I think it is
better to translate as “Forbidden love”). Although the lyrics doesn’t spell it
out clearly, but the song is about same sex relationship (or more broadly, a
type of love relationship that is not accepted by the general public). Just a
side note, the key singer in Tat Ming Pair, Anthony Wong and Denise Ho are both
singers that have publicly come out and admit that they are homosexual.
The
lyrics of the song, as mentioned before, are about forbidden love. The protagonist
said: “The rain on the window is trying so hard to distract us from sleeping,
and once again it make the messy hair pile wet. No need to be scared, you are crying
because you are frightened. Don’t worry, as love is innocent. Please close the
window, place your dreams in the future and let me hold your hand again. No
need to run away. Although the public view is ridiculous, but for you, I am
willing to take it. Wish that there is some place on Earth that wouldn’t harm
love, wiping the colour in our heart. Wish that someday, we don’t need to hold
up with the pain, and let this forbidden colour dye outside our soul. A thousand
types of pain, all formed within the nightmare, wish that I will not change
even until I die. The clock stopped, I waited quietly, the scary rainy sound is

song for today is “你還愛我嗎” by Tat Ming Pair. This song was one
of their classic. Only today I realised that Beyond was also involved in this
song as backing vocalist. The title translated to “You still love me?” in
English.
The
lyrics of the song are about the protagonist wanting to know whether his
girlfriend still loves him. He asked: “ Do you still loves me? Why I am a bit
worry! Situation changes every day, so relationship doesn’t change? You still love
me? If nothing changes, I worry that it will be frozen! I got used to seeing
you every day, so how do I know whether our love has been simplified? Perhaps I
shouldn’t found out whether it is real or not, but I don’t want to lie to
myself. You love me? I wish I will know. It will stop me from worrying! I still
love you? Perhaps the love has already transformed. But you always remain in my

The
song for today is “講野” Tat Ming Pair. This song came out in
1990. While it is dated, the song is about the contradiction in Hong Kong’s
future after 1997, and to date, the topic is still so up to date. Looking back
at songs from the 80’s and 90’s, it is amazing to found out that they still
manage to describe the current situation in Hong Kong. These lyrics writers
were 20 years ahead of time. The direct English translation of the title is “Speak”.
The
lyrics of the song, as I said before, are about the political situation of Hong
Kong after 1997 (the year when it return to China). The protagonist said: “What
I said and what you said is different. What you said, what I said, both got a
bit of trash talk. I talk, you yelled, like we are arguing. You talked as well,
and I yelled as well, soon we will split. What I said, aren’t bad, like a
professional. What you said, nothing is wrong, like a politician. We separated before,
but we will eventually see each other again and continue on our unfinished
business. Back then I relayed on you, and you pretended to be my saviour. Back

song for today is “石頭記” by Tat Ming Pair (達明一派).
This song is one of their iconic songs. It was a big hit back in the late 80’s.
The direct English translation of the title is “The Story of the stone”.
The
lyrics of the song are about life, and they are a bit abstract so sometime it
doesn’t seems to make too much sense after translation. The protagonist said
that he is sick of watching the wind blow on the snow; it got thicker, shoes
broken and the road got wet. Then gazing at the mountain far away, the wind
blow on the weak willow; he once enjoyed the scenery alone, when he was sick
and weak. Suddenly, he heard that music lightly float into his ears; he dance
randomly, and his cloths got untidy. He wanted to dump his thought, but they
are so fake that it feels so real. In the old study room, this old dreams of
his keeps recurring. He wanted to drink down the alcohol with the hard
decision, but who would have thought that it would leave a scar. Counting bit
by bit, but at the end it differ by so much. Change and turn, and become a new
relationship. Wanted to get married, but after the warm spring, it changes.
Real and fake, we realised that sadness, happiness, grace and hatred are all
fake. Hopefully you will enjoy the song.
The
song that I chose for today is “玫瑰園” by 劉以達與夢
(They don’t really have an official English name, the closes that I can
translate to is “Tats Lau with Dream”). I have completely forgotten about this
song until a few days ago I heard it on the radio. I used to laugh at this song
when I was a kid, because their music video was quite ‘different’ to the other
music video at the time, more importantly, Tats Lau doesn’t sing (he is the one
that wrote the song) but he still appeared in the music video and do something
that is completely unrelated to the song itself. The direct English translation
of the title is “Rose garden”.
The
lyrics of the song are about future (I guess), there isn’t really a clear idea
throughout the song. The protagonist said that you grow your flowers, she grows
hers and see whose flowers will be better. You looked at her flower and she
looked at your flower, would there be a lot of differences? Really, your
flowers and her flowers are both call flowers. Walking in the wind and rain and
forth and back many times, there is no peaceful land in the world. There is
only future that would still allow her to have dreams and run away. Every hard
work, every thunder storm and every inch that we walk forward is to get closer
to our dreams. Her heart is like a seed. In this land, rose blossom. She was
once happy, but until all the roses are dead. Followed by bauhinia and peony,

song that I chose for today is “排名不分先後左右忠奸(無大無細超)”
by Tat Ming Pair. This is one of their classic songs. The direct English translation
of the title is “Not in any specific order”.
The
lyrics of the song are basically names of the people that were famous in Hong
Kong at the time when the song was made. It consist of stars from Hong Kong and
overseas. I hope you will enjoy the song.
The
song that I chose for today is “十個救火的少年” by Tat Ming Pair (達明一派),
usually refers to as Tat Ming (達明). Tat Ming consist of two members, Anthony
Wong (黄耀明) and Tats(劉以達). Anthony mostly takes care of the vocal part,
so from memory there are hardly any songs from Tat Ming you would hear Tats’
voice. I am not a fans of Tat Ming, but they are a very unique group, their
songs are quite stand out from the others. The direct English translation of
the song is “Ten fire-fighting juveniles”.
The
lyrics of the song describe a scan with fire. Ten juveniles put themselves forward
to put out the fire, but one thought that he didn’t have enough training and it
would be a danger task, so he pulls out. Another of the ten wanted to be closer
with his girlfriend, so he quit without telling other. Another listened to his
mother, who said that it would be dangerous to stand too upfront, so he pulls
out as well. Now there is only seven of the ten left, standing next to the
bridge. Three of them argued with each other and decided that they will never
see each other again. Now there is only four people left, but one of them don’t
want to take any action. With the three people left, it is impossible for them
to put out the fire, and in a split second, they were swallowed by the fire. At
the night with the big fire, everyone talks about these three people saying how
useless they are, slowly and slowly, these three people seems to have been forgotten
already.
This
song in some way reflects how our society works. Majority of the people just want
to complain about our society (the fire in the song). But only a small number
of people will put themselves forward to try to change the world. But even so,
during the cause of it, majority of these people will quit, left behind a very
small amount of people to take on the challenge. When they fail, everyone will complain
about how useless these people are, but no one is brave enough to fix up the
