The
song that I chose for today is “任天堂流淚” by Leo Ku. This is another song
that is hard to translate as it plays with words. “任天堂” is
the Chinese name for Nintendo, but if you try to break that down in meaning, “任”
mean let, and “天堂” means heaven. So depending on how you see it the title
in English could be “Nintendo cry” or “Let haven cry”. (Note that Nintendo is
an option here as the lyrics make references to Nintendo’s games.)
The
lyrics are about love. The protagonist said that look at how Mario would block
a spider for his lover; to grab the star Mario is willing to walk into the volcano.
He said that his two hands are full, he will keep playing until sun rise, but television
doesn’t know how to say good night. He felt that he doesn’t have the passion,
so he is not worthy for her, and all he did was too look at this guy took her
away. Now he can’t even play games. She wanted to break up and he need to
fight, to give her the best future. But too bad, he is not good enough, he is
lost even before he tried. She wanted to breakup, and he tried to fix their
relationship, then at least she will be amazed that he would try. So perhaps
one day he will go to heaven and fight with his guy once more. Right, Mario
doesn’t have a lover as he is too stupid just like himself, as his hands are
both swollen. Right, he is determined and knows a lot of martial art, but in
real life, he got nothing. He felt that he doesn’t have the passion, so he is
not worthy for her, and all he did was too look at this guy took her away. Now
he can’t even play games. She wanted to break up and he need to fight, to give
her the best future. But too bad, he is not good enough, he is lost even before
he tried. How does she want him to fix their relationship? And how much longer
could she stay with him? She wanted to breakup, and he tried to fix their
relationship, then at least she will be amazed that he would try. So perhaps if
he let his tears to drop on his Nintendo, then perhaps they would break free.
Hope you will like the song.
