4th Feb 2013 (正氣歌 – Edmond Leung)

The song that I chose for today is “正氣歌” by Edmond Leung. This song is one of the songs in his latest album “E.d.M.O.N.D.”. According to the producer, this song was created for Edmond to reflect his career in the music industry in the past 20 years. I am not too sure how to translate the title, I guess the best suited translation is “Positive song”.

The lyrics of the song, as I said before, reflect Edmond’s career. It started off telling us that he has been working very honestly in the past 20 years, but he realised that he is still very far from what he dream of. But he said he would just smile and wish that his aim would still be the same after another 20 years. Wins and losses are hard to calculate, it all depends on how we define it. But all he after is just inner peace, so even the movie that he stared in might be bad, but he will continue to finish it off. Now is just like how his parents predicted, his world would come to a point that will test his believe. The world is full of happiness and sadness, love and hate, and it could turn upside down instantly. Even though we are not living in a paradise, but we need to remain good virtue. If we lose our good will, then that would be the end of us. So he wish that he could be as innocent as a fool, only worry about tomorrow when tomorrow come, and still can smile when we have fall. He wishes that he could become a legend so that this believes could be passed on and well spread. When we sold out our friend, before it being discovered, we would feel guilty, and we would try to avoid facing that person directly. And if we take the short cut every time we do something, even if we success, we would worry about new challenges. So how to win is more important than winning itself. All he wishes is that he could fall to sleep with a smile every night, so he wouldn’t feel a single guilt when his life end. How seeing that so many of his friends have reaches their goal with the wrong method, he still keep his believe and climbing up very slowly. He said if there are sacrifices that need to be make to accelerate in the road of success, then he would rather walk slowly.

The song is quite deep, and sorry that my translation of the lyrics probably makes it a bit hard to understand. But the main idea (or the take home message) of the song is that we should try to keep our good will even at time when we are betrayed or temped, that way at least at the end of our life, we would regret nothing. Hope you will enjoy the song.
