8th May 2014 (流星 – Faye Wong)

The song for today is “流星” by Faye Wong. I have completely forgotten about this song until I heard it again yesterday. It was quite popular in the 90’s. The direct English translation of the title is “Meteor”.

The lyrics of the song are about the relationship of the protagonist with her boyfriend. She said she is at the edge of the sea and he is at the edge of the sky. Two stars that meant to exist at the same time. They correspond to each other, but never get close to each other, just like she and him, quietly corresponding to the other. She wonders whether this is called lingering or destroying. It has been too long, she can’t take it anymore, she wanted to escape from his tender universe. Become a meteor, no matter which direct she fly, there will always be a shining memories behind her. She is a meteor, she got a dream, to leave him, and her beauty will disappear. Between them, there doesn’t seem to be anything but a crying galaxy. He is Niu Lang, but she doesn’t want to be Zhi Nu, she doesn’t want to continue the sad poem (note that Niu Lang and Zhi Nu are from a Chinese mythology. They are a pair of couple that got separated and only allowed to see each other once a year. I managed to found an English version of the story, click here if you are interested). She doesn’t want it to go on like this, she doesn’t want them to destroy themselves. It has been too long, she can’t stand it any longer. She wanted to go back to their peaceful time. Become a meteor, no matter which direct she fly, there will always be a shining memories behind her. She is a meteor, she got a dream, to leave him, and her beauty. Become a meteor, no matter which direct she fly, their memories will always be behind her. Unlimited meteors, she only got one wish, which is to find her own beautiful story. Hope you will like the song.
