The lyrics of the song is about a person that is lonely during Christmas, but he feel that there is no need to be in love just so that you could be with someone during Christmas. Announcement (18th Dec 2016)

I would like to apologise for the very infrequent, irregular post in the last few weeks and possibly in the next few months. If you have been following this blog for a while, you may know that I have been trying to look for a new job. In the last week or so, I had a number of interviews (finally got some responds after months of searching lol), and I have been given a verbal offer in the last couple of days :D Although nothing is official yet, but it should be safe to say that the new job is secured :D For this new job though I will be relocating to Hong Kong (something that I have been trying to do for quite some time now. I guess some of you may think that I have always been residing in Hong Kong, hahahaa, I actually reside in Australia), so probably for the next couple of months when I am packing, relocating and trying to settle down in Hong Kong, I may not have too much time to update this blog. Don't worry, I am not saying goodbye to this blog, it will just mean that this infrequent and irregular behaviour is probably going to stick around for quite some time lol (i.e. 1-2 blog posts per week I hope). But I promise, once everything got settled, I will try to get this blog back to its former glory. Meanwhile, enjoy the post for today below :D

The song for today is “藍色街燈” by Leon Lai. This song is the Cantonese version of “Don’t say Goodbye” by Samuel Tai (邰正宵). The direct English transition of the title is “Blue street light”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said: “Who let loneliness and silence flow by. Time gazed at the things that we couldn’t controlled. The song for today is “大城小事” by Leon Lai. This song share the same melody as Miriam Yeung’s “小城大事”. The lyrics of the two song corresponds to each other. In the linked video, Leon explained why there are two versions. Apparently, Miriam’s manager heard the song (back then it was just a movie music) and wanted it to be turned into a song for Miriam. The movie was Leon’s investment, and they gave the manager a favour as they are good friends. So, Miriam’s song, as predicted by her manager, become a big hit. Anyway, back to Leon’s version of the song. The direct English translation of the title is “Big city, little event”.

The lyrics of the song basically talks of the same story as Miriam’s song but from the man’s perspective. Many parts of the lyrics are the same. He said: “Couldn’t remember why we began, or even why I have said the three word “I love you”. Perhaps because I got amnesia, so I couldn’t remember what I did. I don’t want to wait until my amnesia got worse, I wish that I could remember the lucky feeling that I had when I was kissed by you. Don’t worry about the past, as good bye was so close. The song for today is “合久必婚” by Hacken Lee. The direct English translation of the title is “Stay together for long so must married” The title actually plays with words. There is a Chinese phase “合久必分”. Only the last word is different to the song title, but the two pronounced the same. In the Chinese phase, it means separation, so it is saying that when a couple stay together for too long, the fate would be that they will separate.

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist not sure why him and his girlfriend still haven’t married even though they have been through so much. He speculates that perhaps he just didn’t have the courage and the mentality to get married. He said: “Perhaps I haven’t learnt to protect others, so that’s why we still haven’t make each other official. The song for today is “光輝歲月” by Beyond. This is one of their classic song. The direct English translation of the title is “Glory days”.

Beyond’s songs are timeless, even when this song was written 30+ years ago, it still has such a great impact when I listen to it. The lyrics are about racism, how people hope to overcome the problem that imposed on them by their skin colour. It said: “The bell start to ring the homing signal. The song for today is “今天我” by Jan Lam. Jan is part of Soft Hard, but he had been working solo for a long time. The direct English translation of the title is “Today me”.

The lyrics of this song actually draws from many songs, these included “海闊天空”, “抗戰二十年”, “年少無知”, “光輝歲月”(I am surprise that I haven't wrote a post on this song yet as it is one of Beyond's signature songs. So this will be tomorrow's song :D ) and “無盡”. Apart from the last song, the rest were either sung or melody was written by members of Beyond. These songs are all about growing up. This song by Jan basically draw lyrics from these songs and connected them to form a new song that have a similar theme. Note that the phase “today me (今天我)” is the first lyrics of “海闊天空” and it is a very signature of the song, most people will instantly recognise the song just by these 3 (Chinese) words. The protagonist said: “Today Me, is singing today me. Tomorrow me, once again singing today me. Who haven’t given up the dreams in their heart. Then you and I have fought for twenty years. I started this endless journey, growing up in the glory days, hugging Ka Kui (the leader, the key vocal singer and the main song writer of Beyond. The lyrics of the song are about not giving up of your dream.
