A Song a day: 5th May 2012 (春夏秋冬 – Kelly Chan/Leslie Cheung)

Today’s song is “春夏秋冬” by Kelly Chan. This song was originally sung by Leslie Cheung. The direct translation of the song is “Spring Summer Autumn Winter”. If you have been following my post, Kelly Chan is the singer that I was referring to in ”他約我去迪士尼” (30th Apr 2012 (他約我去迪士尼 –Kellyjackie). This song is very new, just came out in the last few days.

This song is part of the campaign that Universal Music (Hong Kong) is launching. They are planning to reproduce a handful of Leslie’s song by slightly recomposing them and get some of the most popular and most famous singer (of cause they have to be under their label) to sing them. From my knowledge this is the second song in the series. The first one is Eason’s ”最冷一天”.

Just like Eason’s”最冷一天”, this song also feels different to the original. Kelly’s version sounds more sweet, while in Leslie’s version he really make it sounds like he is thinking his past, and memorising he happy moment. I think Leslie’s version is somewhat a better match to the lyrics, but it is a bit heavy for casual listening. Also I think that Kelly have slightly changed her style, this song sounds a bit different to her usual style, and I actually quite like this. When I listen to this song I feel quite calm and peaceful.

Back to the lyrics. My understanding of the lyrics is that it is about a person thinking of her ex-lover. In each paragraph, it talks about how each of the season feels like if her ex is with her. Like in the second section, it said: “Winter would be good if you were around. The sky could be dull, but we will always be shining. We will sit together and talk about the future. Ignoring the cold weather and keep singing like this.” There is no hate in this song, as the person is glade that they had meet up. She is simply sad that they have to split up, but she hope that even when they have split up physically, she hope (or still wish) that they are close mentally. Hope you will enjoy this song.
