24th Nov 2013 (友情歲月 – Ekin Cheng)

The song that I chose for today is “友情歲月” by Ekin Cheng. I only realised that I haven’t talk about this song in the blog today and I can’t believe that after so long I haven’t talked about it. This is, if not one of, the most famous song by Ekin Cheng. This is his iconic song. When people think of him, they thought of this song, when people hear the intro of the song they will think of Ekin. This song was a theme song of a series of movies (which was about Mafia). This series was very successful, and many still talk about those movies today. I am not too sure on the exact reason why they stop making the series. Some people told me that the Hong Kong government asked to stoped the series as those movies portrayed mafia as a group of people that looks after each other and give youth the sense that being mafia is cool, hence increasing crime rate. The direct English translation of the title was “Friendship era”.

The lyrics are about friendship. It begins by saying that the disappeared time is dispersed into the wind, the protagonist doesn’t want to think about it and he doesn’t want to face it. He remembers the time when he was roving, his friends was there with him. The naïve voices have now gone, and all of them are moving forward to their goals. He looks up to the sky, thinking about the past and understands the tiredness in his heart. So let’s forget who’s right or wrong and just embrace the past. Being together and gone through so much, there must be some happiness moment. Never believe in hopeless and never hesitate. Challenging each other through our dreams and work our hardest every day. In the stormy days, and in the state of half clear half lost, everything seems to happened in a blur. The wind have calmed, and we have already all the favour, so let tears bring away our sadness.
