25th Nov 2013 (心亂如麻 – Janice Vidal)

The song that I chose for today is “心亂如麻” by Janice Vidal. This is one of my all-time favourite and it is one of the first few Cantonese song sung by Janice. The direct English translation of the title is “heart is messy like flax”, this is a Chinese saying, meaning that that we are confuse or lost.

The lyrics of the song are about love. At the start the protagonist said that at the beginning of their relationship, they kissed and she wanted to celebrate, he already wanted to distance from her. If he felt weak and scare about her, then would he reject her? He wanted to contact her, and he called and wanted to meet. If he is serious about their relationship or that he is just perfunctory, a 3 years old would be able to tell. He seems to not willing to get in touch with her, and she felt that this change is like slapping her on the face a few thousand times. Perhaps he feels that after kissing with her there is a difference to what he had imagined. If he doesn’t want to develop a relationship with her, then she wishes that he could just be honest with her. She hopes that he just loved in a lazy way, which could explain why he ignore her for a few days. But each second, she get more down and wonder what she did wrong. In the past, he took care of her a lot, but he insults her after he got his happiness. She asked herself that, yes she had selfishly been happy before and had also been worried, now she wanted to know the truth. She doesn’t have the gut to keep bugging him, and her heart is so confuse, go home, go home, and let the wound heal. Hope you will like the song.
