1st Jun 2012 (錢錢錢錢 – Leo Ku)

Today’s song is “錢錢錢錢” by Leo Ku. The direct translation of the title is “Money Money Money Money”.

I quite like this song because it give you lot of room for imagination. Besides, it sounds like an opera (in fact, if you read the lyrics, it is pretty much is an opera.) The lyrics, as you would expect from the title, is about money. In the first part, it talks about how the protagonist needs money, he needs it to replace the broken fan, he needs it to get a bigger house, and he needs it to buy food for his family. Without it he can’t have a family. Everyday day he is being brainwashed by the mansion advertisement on TV. Then in the second part, it talks about how he work hard to earn his money, he sacrificed his personal life for work, helping his boss whenever it is needed. In the third part, he is already rich, now his employees need suck up to him the same way he did before to his boss in hope of getting a promotion. In the fourth part, it tell us that although he is very rich and got more than when he want and needed, but his wife found that his personality have change so much, he is no longer the person she love and decided to have a divorce. At that point he realised that his life was controlled by money, he become successful because of his will to earn more money, but he also fail because he lost himself. I found the lyrics very interesting, because it remind us that we should always think about our intention before we start doing something. Like the protagonist here, he got his money, but at the end money didn’t bring him the life that he wanted.

Hope you will enjoy this song.
