A Song a day: 16th Jan 2013 (最佳位置

The song that I chose for today is “最佳位置” by Bondy Chiu. The original version was sung by Kelly Chan, however it wasn’t popular. The lyric writer, Wyman Wong, in 2005 decided to create an album of songs that he wrote the lyrics to celebrate his 10th anniversary of being in the industry. In that album, he said that he really like this song, and because it wasn’t as popular as he wish it could have been, he decided to plug them on radio again, but this time with a singer of his choice, and he chose Bondy. This story works quite well for advertising the album and the song was more publicly known.

The direct translation of the title is “Best position” and the lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist loves a guy that she knows for quite some time. They are very good friends. But this guy is very popular with girls, his girlfriend come one after the other and she realised that there will never be a chance for her to become his girlfriend. But she realised that she is in a pretty good position with him. Although she is not his girlfriend, but he always reserved this special place for her in his heart as a friend and their relationship have last a lot longer than any of his girlfriends. Because of this special relationship, she decided not to tell him that she love him, so that she can always relate to him in this special way.
