Happy Chinese New Year, this is the first day of the Year of Horse, hope that you will be happy and healthy for the coming years. The song that I chose for today is “祝福” by Jacky Cheung. The direct English translation of the title is “Blessing”. Although this song share the same name as Sally Yip’s “祝福” but they are two completely different songs.

The lyrics of the song are about two close friends (perhaps they were once a couple) is being separated, but wish the other could be with them. It starts by telling us that they don’t need to speak or ask but they understand what each other wanted to do. This moment, they are looking at a candle, and they wanted time past quietly. Don’t wave the hand nor turn back when he played the song, because he is worry that he will start crying. All he wishes is that his smiley face could always remain in her heart and be with her for every season. Some sadness and some worries, it is hard to avoid bitter and pain in life. Only losing something once would make us understand how to treasure and own something. It is hard to put away a relationship and hard to keep someone. Today they separated to different directions, cold and hot, everything will remain in their heart. He hopes that her heart will always remember his smiles and accompany her every season. It is sad to separate, and separation is right in front of them. Saying goodbye, but he knows that they will see each other again in the not far future. The song that I chose for today is “放下” by C AllStar. The direct English translation of the title is “Let go”. Today is the last day of the Year of Snake, so I wish that all of us could let go of the bad and unhappy things, and only carry the good and happy moments to the New Chinese Year (Year of Horse).

The lyrics of the song are about letting go and relaxing. It said that if we need to work and live, the first thing that we need to learn is to let go. Put down the keyboard and stop rushing to reply, take a break, read the book and drink some tea. Tonight, we can dim our light a bit and only need it to shine our bed. All winding mechanism will stop one day, so let’s take a break. Learn to let it go, as there are sceneries waiting for you to see, so stop rushing for now ok? You were board because of it, so tired that you felt you are broken, like an ant crawling. Try not to fulfil it too much, you still got time to waste right, so stop being so realistic all the time. The song that I chose for today is “非愛勿動” by Lillian Ho. This song was from 2001. The direct English translation of the title is “Not love then don’t move”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that perhaps there is no way to be more helpless. She never dares to think too much, as she worries that she will never see the ending. Perhaps one day she could see it through, and when that day comes would he be next to her when she opens her eyes? She realised that he once touched her heart, but too bad that she was unmanly. But even so, she would never know whether they could be together forever. There is no need for him to purposely please her. He is not sure whether he could spend the rest of his life with her. He is the one that explore the darkness, but why she needs to hide. Perhaps she finally got something, but both of them need to carry more burden. There is no need for him to purposely please her. The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that he will be with her even he has to squeeze himself into the roller-coaster, he will make sure that she is protected. He protects her like a body guard, make sure she lives in a castle and never felt empty. He will carry her when she is drunk and make sure that she can sleep even when she is busy. Whatever that scared her he will destroy it, even if he has to violate the law. He will protect her forever, so there is no need for her to get scared. He will make sure that every second of her life live in peace and happiness. So let him handle her problems. He will guard her so she doesn’t need to be scared. He will cover her in rain so that she can remain her elegant. He wishes that he could be in fount of her so that she wouldn’t worry about him. The song that I chose for today is “鐵幕誘惑” by Aaron Kwok. This is one of Aaron’s classic. The direct English translation of the title is “Iron curtain’s temptation”.

The lyrics of the song are about a person trying to get close to the protagonist, but the protagonist is the type that doesn’t show much of his emotion. It start by telling us that there was a thunder and a red frame break the darkness. The protagonist is know he is inside a machine, very cold (emotionless) and mysterious. How could messy hair break a heart? Electrocution and no one can get close to the iron curtain. Why it is her tears, why it is only this little bit of tears can remind who he is. He cried these iron tears, and they come from his heart, these make his heart become water. Someone charm him, someone shoot some heat energy at him, some charm him with tears and make him lost all his energy. Someone charmed him, someone work so hard for love, someone tempt him with her charm, he felt lost but excited. If they don’t strengthen the illusion, how could they freeze up their instinct. If she doesn’t know how to get close to him, it would be like two rock rubbing against each other. Making moves randomly is still hard to remove the protective shell from the heart. The song that I chose for today is “聽傷口說話” by Hacken Lee. It was a song from 2004.this was the year that Hacken started to climb back in the Cantonese pop music industry. The direct English translation of the title is “Listen to the wound speaks”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said that time after the snow, he lost his conscious. Looking at this ward, there is no wind, but only flower. The old him, perhaps have already been buried. But at night he is still scare to be alone. The person that hurt him, but he still do so much for her. He is bleeding, and the wound hurt so he can’t go home. Previously, he wasn’t even worry about his arm being broken, and he wanted to hug even it hurt. He never turned his head even if there was a cliff in front of him, he is not scare to be dead for her. He felt lucky even if he got hurt for her badly and felt that he won even he is badly wounded. He never thought that he is not good enough to love her. He tried his hardest to love her, and people call this painful love beautiful. Now this relationship got bring up, but why at a silence night there is only sadness. He closed his eyes and listen to his wound speaks. His wound told him about his past and the many girlfriends that he had. He thinks it sounds like the worse fairy-tale that he heard in his life. Every minute was trouble but the protagonist just never see it through and so he got left behind. He run up again and told himself that for the next her he will do better, but he got wrong the same way and got himself full of wounds and the wounds don’t heal. Previously, he wasn’t even worry about his arm being broken, and he wanted to hug even it hurt. Before his execution, he never hide, he will just think that he die for his dream. He felt lucky even if he got hurt badly and felt that he won even he is badly wounded. He never thought that he is not good enough to love her. He tried his hardest to love her, and people call this painful love beautiful. Now this relationship got bring up, but why none of his previous girlfriend was like her. That day he finally survive, he realised that love is not a grave, so all this problems that he had was to train him up to see her. Hope you will like the song.

The song that I chose for today is “可能” by Dave Wong. Previously I have talked about Dave’s “安妮”, this song share the same melody as “安妮” except it is the Cantonese version. But note that because mandarin and Cantonese pronounce differently, so the two songs have different lyrics to match the melody. The direct English translation of the title is “Maybe”.

The lyrics of the song are about love, the protagonist knows that his relationship with his girlfriend is fading away, but he is not willing to give up. At the start, the protagonist said it is raining lightly, and it is approaching by the wind. This rain is like it is connecting all the questions in his heart. He asked her to meet here, but it had already pasted their agreed time, all he can do now is to continue to wait in the rain. Seeing each other at night seems that they are close, but he felt that her heart is no longer with him. He doesn’t want to ask her to explain why she didn’t come, all he wanted is that she could be closer. Maybe she just wanted to test him; maybe they guessed each other too much; maybe they have past their brightest time, so perhaps it is best to left him behind. The song that I chose for today is “今天開始” by Jay Fung. Personally I don’t like the song too much (just not my cup of tea), but these days this type of Cantonese song is quite rare, so I think it is worth to post it here to promote it. The direct English translation of the title is “Starting from today”.

The lyrics of the song are about how we should see our life. It told us not to get mad even if we are angry. War is nothing like video game in which we can ignore getting shoot. Don’t just say anything to annoy the people around you, it is something that we can’t afford to challenge. Returning fire would destroy the truth. The world is too aloof, too little hug. The song that I chose for today is “想愛不相愛” by Ivana Wong. This was the Chinese theme song for a Japanese movie. The direct English translation of the title is “Want to love but not in love”.

The lyrics of the song are about love. The protagonist said the closer she gets the more she got disappointed as she knows his voice and actions too well. There is no feeling anymore, so it is impossible to like him again. If she got sick, she would pray for herself. When she gets tired, she will no longer wish that someone will hug her. If he worries about her, he need to understand that no matter what fall from the sky, they still need to live on. If love between them is diminishing and they are somewhere between love and not love, then if she wouldn’t keep waiting as she shouldn’t be greedy. Happiness has been slowed down by silences. The song that I chose for today is “城市足印” by Paula Tsui. This was a theme song of a TV drama back in 1986. The direct English translation of the title is “city’s footprint”.

The lyrics of the song are about the distance between people in a city. It said, pay attention on the people on the street, they walk past each other quickly. They all look serious. Their footprint overlap, and they step over other’s footprint over a thousand times, but it seems that no one cares. Pay attention to the people around us, their cold eyes; wonder why people are always in a rush, would they ever know that whether you and I are close or far apart today. Everyone in the city now acts like people can’t get close to them. Time pushes them forward in life, we see each other every day, but we never looked at each other. Pay attention to this person in the middle of the street, he has a pair of honest and smiley eyes. He walked closer to you and smile at you; you felt the love approaches you. The song that I chose for today is “飛躍千個夢” by Grasshopper. This song is the Chinese cover of “Booming!” by a Japanese band called “苦柿隊”. The direct English translation of the Chinese title is “Fly over a thousand dreams”.

The lyrics of the song don’t have a deep meaning. As it is one of the earlier songs from Grasshopper, the main purpose of this song is to get people passionate about Grasshopper, so the lyrics are more of a characteristic building song. It starts from saying that we will jump into the sky together and fly in mid-air. Please don’t be that sad bug that hides in the dark corner. When it gets dark, we will travel in laser and roll like a kid. We will be as fast as wind and our spirit would be high as well. We will gather our strength like a robot and in mid-air our heart would be connected. We will fly like grasshoppers and forms a thousand dreams. Looking at the rainbow tonight is already enough to bring them to their dreams. Who was the person that makes their heart beat again. Every cold water flow is enough to make him lost. 17th Jan 2013 (紅日 – Hacken Lee/それが大事 –大事MANブラザーズバンド (大事MAN BROTHERS BAND))

The song that I chose for today is “紅日” by Hacken Lee. I love this song when I was a kid, if I remember correctly this was a theme song for a TV drama. This song is regarded as the classic of inspirational song. Again like many other songs in the 90’s this is also a Chinese cover of a Japanese song. The original “それが大事” was sung by 大事MANブラザーズバンド (大事MAN BROTHERS BAND). The direct English translation of the Chinese cover is “Red sun”.

The lyrics of the song are about live. It said live could be crazy and difficult, it could even be so scary that it make you feel lost. But don’t cry nor being sad, most of all shouldn’t give up as he wishes he could be with you always. We run around in our life and never have time to see things clearly. When he felt lost he had also tried to sit at a corner and no help arrived. Then year, when he was still young, he fallen many times and he cried in the rain. Life could be difficult, but we still need to travel through it. But he is not sure from when, she was with him and cheered for him. The cheer felt like a red sun and lighted up his spirit, and since then they travelled over many places. Let the wind blow over the flower like it was trying to wish us to be happy. The song that I chose for today is “囍宴” by Amanda Lee. The direct English translation of the title is “Wedding banquet”

The lyrics of the song are about the protagonist feeling sad when she attends her friend’s wedding banquet. The protagonist said that all the guests that were invited as a family have already arrived, but she is going to the banquet alone. Someone asked why she is alone and she doesn’t want to answer. Her friend told her that a wedding banquet has been arranged and she must go to celebrate. She knows that the bride in the next wedding wouldn’t be her. She wanted to avoid these situations, so she sits at the furthest corner. She is scare of being alone, but the happy feeling, she doesn’t have that much. Others told her that attending more wedding would help her, but now at the end of the banquet, she is still along. Others have all found their special someone, but there is always an empty spot next to her. Other’s wedding banquets, so sweet that it turns bitter and sour; it also remind her of the dream that she put away for many years. Attending this wedding banquet make her realised what she lack. Why there is so little time and considered too much. Perhaps her spring had passed and didn’t wait for her. Other’s wedding banquet, guesses could you please behave yourself, there is no need to be so happy that tears coming out from your eyes. Hope you will like the song.
