17th Dec 2014 (夢醒時分 – Sarah Chen (陳淑樺))

The song for today is “夢醒時分” by Sarah Chen (陳淑樺). I am going to do a mini-series on this song over the next few days, so I just recently realised that there are so many different version of this song. Thanks for the reader who requested “心有不甘” by Janice Vidal for my post, encourage me to dig up more info :D As far as I know there are three version of this song, the very first one is “夢醒時分”, which was released in 1989 and will be our focus for today. Then Sammi Cheung makes a Cantonese version of the song call “思念” (a version that I knew that existed, I guess I was just too young back then :p ). In 2009, Janice Vidal’s “心有不甘” was released which was based on the same melody. Anyway, back to “夢醒時分”, this is Sarah’s classic song, probably the first song that you would think of when you think of Sarah. The official English translation of the title is “Dream to Awakening”.

The lyrics of the song are about the attitude to love. It said, you have fallen in love with a person that you shouldn’t love; your heart is full of scar. You said that you had make mistakes that you shouldn’t made; heart is full of regrets. You said you had tasted all the bitterness in life, couldn’t find a person that you could trust. You said you feel very down, and even start to question about your life. You know early on that it is impossible to avoid being hurt, then why have you still love deeply? Because love is always so hard to be distinct and separated, when why border to care that little bit of warm? You need to know that it is impossible you avoid being hurt at every time you awaking from dreams. There are things that you don’t need to ask for, likewise there are people that you never need to wait. Hope you will like the song.
