The
song for today is “東京鐵塔下 GuLuGuLu” by 有耳非文. This
song was released in 2007, this was a song for the Japanese movie “東京鐵塔:我的母親父親”
(“東京タワー 〜オカンとボクと、時々、オトン〜”).
It was a story about the love between the protagonist and his mother. The term “Gulugulu”,
according to Wiki, is the Japanese pronunciation of “グルグル”,
meaning “rotate rotate”. Now onto the singer, 有耳非文 was
a radio host. 有耳非文 is her stage name, her real name is 高郁斐. Her
stage was derived from her real name, by breaking up her given name, 郁斐,
into parts, it become有耳非文 (郁 to 有耳
and 斐 to 非文). The direct English translation of
the song title is “Below Tokyo Tower GuLuGuLu”. The first time I heard this
song was when they turned this story into a radio drama, which I think was used
as an advertising campaign for the movie. Although有耳非文 got
an accent, but in a way I think her add to the dreamy sense of the song, making
it better.
The lyrics
of the song describe all stages of the relationship between the protagonist and
his mother. He said: “Gulugulu, walking in a relaxing afternoon. Gulugulu, don’t
look down and think that your life is bad. Gulugulu, let the forever changing
world be evil. The painful stuff, let myself add some musical notes to it.
Everyone is busy rotating, working hard on rotation, not making room for dreams
and excitement. Don’t be tricked by confusion, losing control of your action;
losing your hope in the city. If you can bump into the rotation, like how children
rotate, it might be hard to become a great person, but at least you can move.
You got youth and let’s push it, feel calm to wast it, and let yourself go.
Gulugulu, maybe people wouldn’t treat you like the richest man. Gulugulu, don’t
ignore pain and sickness. Gulugulu, don’t rely on others to determined your
life. Walk upward, walk downward, don’t need support. Everyone is busy
rotating, working hard on rotation, not making room for dreams and excitement.
Don’t be tricked by confusion, losing control of your action; losing your hope
in the city. If you can bump into the rotation, like how children rotate, it
might be hard to become a great person, but at least you can move. You got
youth and let’s push it, feel calm to wast it, and let yourself go. There are
many type of sadness, so don’t rush to get yourself sad. The sky is wide and
limitless, treasure it and be free.” Hope you will like the song.
