song for today is “普通朋友” by David Tao (陶喆).
David is a very famous Taiwanese singer and this song is one of his famous
song. The direct English translation of the title is “Average Friend”.
The
lyrics of the song are about the protagonist saying that he doesn’t just want
to be her average friend. It said, waiting, he is always waiting, to become the
person responsible for her feelings. He has no doubt that this is love. He
guessed, she wanted to clear this up a long time age. He felt that he is a
loser, falling from haven to the lowest of the lowest, very helpless. He is
willing to change (what can I do), start from the beginning again (just give me
chance). He couldn’t be just a friend, their relationship is already so deep,
how could he let go? But she said “I only wanna be your friend”, be a friend. Him
in her heart is just a friend, not a lover. He thanks her for being so
truthful, but the love that he gave her he wouldn’t take it back. So he wouldn’t
just be her friend “I just can’t be your friend”. No, he can’t just be her
