A Song a day: 7th Oct 2012 (完 – Eason Chan/夢想天空分外藍

The song that I chose for today is “完” by Eason Chan. This song the one of the song in his latest album. This song is quite negative, but for some reason the Mandarin version of the song (called “夢想天空分外藍”) is a very positive song. I will link to both of the song below, but the one that I will talk about in here is “完”. The direct English translation of the title is “End”.

The lyrics of the song are quite heavy. It is about the protagonist is at the final stage of his life (perhaps final stage of cancer). He is laying in the bad, although his body is very weak, by his mind is still very energetic. Even though he know that he is in the final stage of his life, but he still decided to give it all he have to fight this final war. Wishing that his wound would be healed by a miracle, but this is just a vain hope. Becoming so weak, it is hard for us not to be stubborn, if we are born in a dead end, there could only be one ending. Now knowing that it is his final stage, he tried to make friends with his enemies, correct his wrongs. He keeps trying to fish his war again his sickness, he still haven’t see the end yet, but so he keep trying. But finally, he realised that there are wound that can’t be heal, just like when the wire of a guitar is broken, it can’t be fix, but have to be replaced. We shouldn’t be surprise as everything always ends like that, an ending that we can’t change. We could skip all the classes in our life, but we must learn how to face the end. When the protagonist passed away, he wish that we all could understand that there are wars that even when we give it all we have, we still can’t win.

This song is very heavy, but the message that it tell us is very true. In the official music video in the note section, it emphasize the message: “人生到了盡頭，完就是完，任你怎反抗也沒有辦法對抗。要學的，不是如何去打枚，更要學會如何接受大限，放懷抱誇過。讓這個完字，來得簡潔漂亮。” In English it means “When our life comes to an end, it’s an end, no matter how hard you try you could not goes against your destiny. What need to be learn, is not how to fight against it, but to learn how to accept the limit, release our feeling and get over it. Let the word ‘end’ come in a simple manner.” I hope you will enjoy the song.

(Note: the Mandarin version “夢想天空分外藍” is the complete opposite of the Cantonese version. The title in English is “The sky of our dream is extra blue”. It revolve around the idea that when we have dreams we see our world differently, we look forward to the next day. Others might not be able to understand why we are so happy, nor will they see our vision, but if we keep it in our heart, we will be able to see it no matter how far we are away from it.)
